Have you been to http://www.sgparents.com/, a cool forum for all parents, parents-to-be and those wanting to be parnets.

I am going to start a new pico tank - 1 "all-in-one" 1ft tank. It will only be with live rock, 1 inch sandbed, airstone skimmer, return pump for water ciruclationa and a light. Live stock will be soft corals, 1xcleaner shrimp, 1xhermit crab, 1xfirefish. I am asking any reefer/brother/sister for smaller piece of frags of your soft corals, for example, zoos, polyps, or mushrooms, etc etc, for free so that I can put it inside this tank. Credits and thanks will be credited to you later on. If you have any, plese either PM or email me. Thanks a lot in advance.

Yes I want a frag of your pumping xenia if you spare some. Thanks.

Ok reason I am asking is that on the surface of the main tank, there is always a layer of "oily particles" - my DIY overflow thingy is unable to remove it - very angry angry with this whole setup. How? any comments?
-
I just try to dislocate the base off the rock and then place it next to the new location, try to use another smaller piece of rock to hold it down, then later it will join itself to the new rock.

Dear fellow reefers, I know this may be a silly question... Why do we need a hood and a cabinet to store our sump and tank? What is the actual purpose ... besides hiding everything unsightly, only seeing the tank, but all these can cause a heat problem, the lights in the hood will generate heat which we need a fan to extract the heated air inside. Why not expose everything - the main tank, the sump? evaporation is one problem, dust settling on the water surface is another problem, fish jumping out another problem? So what's the advantage and disadvantage of the hood and cabinet? Please advise.

Can we just exchange one full full of water with the main tank. What I mean is scoop one cup full of water from this pico tank, and pour into the main tank, then scoop one cup full of water from the main tank then pour back into this pico - can do this every two or three days or even daily. Then once a month do a 20% water change for the main water???? Easier to do it this way right instead of weekly changes?

any pics of how this works pls?
-
you are better off pasting the new one over the old one easier to be done.

So your tank is basically only a glass tank with live rock and mushrooms and a light?? Simple setup right? any powerhead inside to move the water around?

How to remove floating bits on surface of water?
cdckjn replied to cdckjn's topic in Members Tank & Specs
By understanding your description the things looks like this? But how still to remove the floating stuff? use paper to "suck" it up? -
Bro, your tank is just everything inside a 1ft cube right? there are no sumps or cansister or anything else? I want to create a "portable" 1 ft tank - that is "everything-all-in-one" a 1 ft tank. I intend to partition off some space in my 1ft tank to create a area for a airstone-skimmer, sump, and a return pump. can work or not? Only put softies like yours and 2 fishes - a firefish and goby + cleaner shrimp, starfish, hermit, snail. Can work or not?
-
I intend to do the same as you, a compact "everything-all-in-one" in a 1ft tank. That means air-pump driven skimmer, a "sump" and return pump into the whole setup in the 1 feet. Livestock is just 1 firefish, 1 goby, 1 shrimp, 1 starfish, 1 hermit , 1 snail. Several softies - zoos, mushrooms, etc etc. on a sandbed. What live stock are you going to put inside?
-
I think my personal challenge would be to create a 1ft tank with everything inside - that means the skimmer, "sump", refugium, return pump etc all inside the 1ft tank. The lights will be on the top. Mostly softies and perhaps only shrimps, hermit, goby fish only. This would allow me to physically move the tank from place to place.

I think a 2G is called a PICO not NANO tank. Suggest to the Mods to create a new forum topic as the interest is there.
-
Dear Mods, Do you think it is time we have a Pico Tank forum column as there are many people interested in this topic??

If I want to start a pico tank (1ft) then I will do a overflow within the tank (silicon DIY partition) with a airstone skimmer, then put Live Rock, put 1 starfish, 2 hermit crab, 2 snails, maybe 1 fire goby, some mushrooms, some featherdusters, some more soft corals. all of this on a 1.5" sand bed. Simple FL lights - white only. Am going to do it next few weeks, perhaps will start a new thread in the nano tank.
