  1. I would add one of those artifical coral (plastics) to add colours into this pico.
  2. cool! nice pico tank with cansister and 1ft lights.
  3. Whoa!! so many fans, your water will evaporate rather fast with the MH light going. Need to watch the water parameters very carefully as it may sing rather fast with the lights and fans fully working.
  4. Actually some of your tanks have sponges/featherdusters/some soft corals so not realky 100% FOWLR (Fish Only With Live Rock) - but some of your tank are REALLY very nice compared to mine. Will take some pictures to post later when return back to home. Cheers.
  5. any updates on your tank? A Full tank Shot please?
  6. The Jebo one - is only a surface skimmer. That means it only removes the oily layer on the surface of water. The flow rate is quite okay as I use it for my 2ft tank and it "stirs up" the water so that there is flow all over the tank. My tank is 18 inches high. For your 30cm tank, I guess the height is only 20cm, then this will be very high current generated in the tank. Very high flow rate. In my opinion, there are these few equipment for low-cost nano tank - they are skimmer, cansister, powerhead for flow, so this Jebo can actually fulfil these functions except the skimming. Good luck!
  7. so sorry for this news. I had this problem once with nano tank. Once problems started, they tend to snowball into a bigger problem. Suggestion, change at least half the water (flush all toxins/bad stuffs) away. Then replace with new water and then let it sort-of "cycle" again for, say, at least 2 weeks before stocking up with new fishes. Good luck. In the meantime, good idea to introduce new equipment such as skimmer or whatever as now only the shrimp in the water. I personally find that the skimmer is a very important piece of equipment.
  8. There will be a performance titled TALKING IN BED which is put up by the NUS University Scholars Club in benefit og the KK Hospital Cleft & Craniofacial Support Group. Thanks.
  9. anemone require a chiller as they would only strive in cooler water (27 degrees) and as you will normally switch on the lights for the other corals, then the temperature will shoot to at least 30 degrees. great tank though. It is actually ok to put mushrooms and zoos in a new tank (I think) as they come with a rock and those rock can be counted as live rock as they should be in the water in the LFS for at least some time before coming into your tank. The problem is whether when they come into your tank, does it come with good bacteria or worst many undesirable pests. So take care in "cycling" a new tank with just corals. Good move of you to put in some tonga branches.
  10. Looks cool, Good choice of fishes and livestock Great DIY and mods to the tank and lighting Great Job, Keep it Going Man!!! Awesome!
  11. I am interested to find out about your RC planes?
  12. I also have a rusty angel once - feeding ok , swimming well, then suddenly after two days never saw it and REALLY never saw it again - my tank is only a FOWLR?? Amazing isn't it?
  13. In Hougang, I saw the water moving up and down like 1cm in the fish water - just like a wave... then I realise that there must be an earthquake somewhere in the region - then quickly checked ChannelNewsAsia for update. Yes! a 6.6 quake near Padang 430 km from Singapore. Amazing!
  14. http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=45280 this was an account of my Pico tank 1.5ft - with once a month wate change of about 1litre of newly mixed salt with DI water. But due to the challenges to work schedule the tank was decommissioned after 8 months after it was started up. Well, learnt a lot over the whole experience. My learning experience, it may be a very good idea to have an external cansister filter (as this will greatly increase the amount of water in the "whole" system) as pico tank the "total" volume of water is very low. no need for skimmer if you feed only sparingly - have clownfishes as they are "cuter" have cleaner shrimps as my colleagues keeps coming to eye at my living sushi pieces. have simple mushrooms or feather dusters they work well. Have a desktop lamp, this works well. Good Luck
  15. Honestly LED is for show only. If you want lighting for a nano tank, best choice REALLY is a PL table lamp on sort of a arm that you can bend so that the light is from overhead the tank. This would allow you space to put a fan for extra cooling, or even space to hand a skimmer/filltering stuff else you will very soon ran out of space. Space is a very challenging issue for a nano/pico tank (15cmx15cm) but LED does have its place (the Blue LEDs especially if you want some sort of a nightlight - this is a good compromise. Get blue LED strip from Sim Lim Tower basement. Good Luck Bro.
  16. Buy a seperate table lamp . As this will be cheap and effective, but the light may not be what you are looking for? But in this case of pico (smaller than nano) tank, this will be the way to go in the case of lighting. I feel that if we can install the normal fluroscent lighting but we put about 2 tubes - this should be enoig to light up such a small tank. The depth of the tank is also not too deep so the light should reach the bottom of tank.
  17. Hi, Pardon me for asking this, I'm new into this hobby. What is live sand? Live sand is sand that is not dead sand actually sand that has been in someone's fish tank for a while is live sand. Are there any differences between normal sand from the beach and live sand? if you mean scooping it from the beach while the sand is still in the seawater, eh .. personally I will not do it as there may be a lot of impurities especially in Singapore's water. It also may contain a lot of unknown bacteria and stuff which you may not wnat in your tank. also the sand is rather big and not uniform in size unless you want to sit there are sift them according to sizes. What is the grading of the sand all about? I'm thinking of setting up a 1.5ft cube, what is the recommended grade of sand to be used? If think a Grade 1 or 0 sand would be ok, the smaller the number the finer the sand I think? Actually not so difficult this live sand thingy, just get some sand from a fellow reefer, and then seed this live sand with yours in your tank while your tank is cycling is good enough to establish this "live sand". The sand is more for aesthetics rather than really function. Actually some reefers prefer a sandless tank.
  18. looks like some type of seaweed that you found on beach at Pasir Ris/Changi? Red in colour? If yes, I also have a bunch of this in my sump in a overflow container, very slow growth, so I just put it into the sump. My sump is naturally lighted as sump is not inside a cabinet.
  19. a) Jebo external cannister filter model 835 - $30 1ft acylic tank with built-in hood together with PL light - good for tiny nano - $5 - SOLD c) Weipro skimmer - model 2011 with pump - $12 d) quiet air pump - $5 (I got 2 to let go) e) 1.5ft glass tank with DIY partition - good for nano tank - $20 - SOLD(http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=45280) f) automatic fish food feeder - $15 - SOLD
  20. If you feed like that, do the same amount of food but every two days - then should solve your problem.
  21. A little advise - don't add too much fish/livestock or even corals too fast/too many - it will just overload your system, only will cause fishes dying suddenly/overnight or worse may cause your whole tank to crash. Take it a little slower - go only to the LFS once a month, that way less temptation to buy livestock.
