  1. Hi, I got some fresh caulerpa from a nice sis here. After a few days, some of them started to turn transparent and melt. What could be the cause? I have a 2x24W T5 (actinic + white). Tank temperature ~29 deg C. Thanks!
  2. I got a mature tank with a BT, YT and Sailfin. For months, I thought everything was too perfect and thus boring, so I went to grab more fish. I go to one LFS and got a pair of pink skunk clowns. They looked healthy. I gave them fresh water dip before putting them in. The next day... The 2 pink skunk clowns developed ich. I added some medication and thought it was no big deal. Then, the ich looked more like velvet, and soon, all my tangs got it. Within 2 weeks, all my fish died. Well, I should have quarantined them in the first place but I got too confident.
  3. It looks like those U-shaped tubes, so it might be a PL tube. Also, the tiny label shown in your pic states: DYMAX PL 55W 12000K Hope that helps!
  4. The price of matured fish (kept some time at home) is never equal to the price of the same fish sold in shops. I, for one, would pay more to get fish that are "seasoned" by their nice owners. I paid 3 bucks for a healthy common clown from a forummer here (http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...topic=58013&hl=). It is fat and without any diseases. However, if I had bought those 1 dollar clowns from shops, I'd have to put them in quarantine tanks, make sure they are healthy and nurse them if need to, before putting them into my main tank. A few dollars more to save all the trouble is worth it, in my opinion.

  6. Are you kidding? I've never seen our waters that clear before!

  9. Hi, I already have cheato / chaeto macroalgae in my tank and I would like to have some other plants. Please let me know if you are willing to spare or sell me some. I just need a small bunch. Thanks!
  10. His fishes are very healthy and fat. Upzz for him!
  11. Upz for him... Pending collection of the 1 x big; 1 x small false perculas.
  12. May I know how long have you kept your Common Clowns? Are the 3" and 1.5" common clowns living in the same tank and in peace? I'm interested in getting 1 big & 2 small common clown from you.

  14. Oooh ok. Right now I have no more mysis shrimps, and my YT just migrated to the fantastic mega marine aquarium up in the heavens... I'll soak the seaweed in garlic juice and see how.
  15. My story... When I got my first brown tang, it was down with ich or velvet (doesn't really matter). It didn't eat. It looks like it's gonna die. Then one day it began to eat Formula 2 pellets. Then it began to eat seaweed. I also added medication and gave it fresh water dips. The ich subsided slowly and after a few weeks, it became ok. I added a Sailfin tang next. Same thing happens only that the brown tang didn't get ich, only the Sailfin. I did the same routine and after some time, it began eating and the disease went away. I added a Blue tang next. Same thing happens but this time, the Blue tang was really weak. I bought a small one. It almost died as it didn't eat for a long time and was so weak that it got stuck at the powerhead inlet. Miraculously, it started eating and soon, it was back to good health. I added a Yellow tang next. As expected, everything happened again. But turned out well in the end. I sold the Brown tang to a nice bro here as it grew too big for my tank. Everything was good until early Feb 2007. I bought a pair of pink clowns. I followed the same procedure since the day I started my marine tanks: float the bag, fresh water dip, then put them into the main tank (no QT). This was a mistake but I don't think this was the fatal one. I fed everyone with mysis shrimps since the clowns are not veggie eaters. I noticed in the past that all my tangs would get a bit of ich whenever I feed them too much mysis shrimps, but this time I have no choice. As expected, the tangs contracted ich. All of them. The clowns too. Things didn't look too good. On the first day of CNY, 1 clown died. Yesterday, the BT and the remaining clown died. Freak. I've down almost everything I could. The YT looks weak, with white coated eyes, and didn't eat much. The Sailfin is eating right now but the white spots are there. I think the diet of mysis shrimps did not provide the resistance required by the tangs that was present in the seaweed or Formula 2 pellets. This, I believe, is the fatal mistake. I'm feeding them the usual healthy diet now and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
  16. You can consider going down to Sim Lim Tower and get one there. You can either get all the parts to DIY yourself, or ask the guys there to assemble one for you, or you can buy a ready made AC fan there.
  17. Thanks for your suggestion but I won't be getting any light upgrades as I am only interested in low light demanding stuff. Furthermore, my tank is very very shallow (1 feet high and I have a deep sand bed) so there is no need for deep-penetrating MH lighting. In other words, 48W is enough and MH is an overkill.
  18. Thanks for the tips! I'll upgrade slowly and when the need arises. Right now, I doubt a few pieces of orange yumas and hairy mushrooms warrant a change of T5 tubes! I'll let them wear out first then get the ATI ones. MH? Seriously, for a 2 feet by 1 feet by 1 feet tank? I don't wanna scorch my sand bed ok!
  19. Just an update: I got a Solite 2 feet T5 2x24W (1 blue, 1 white) for $129 from AM. It's not too bad as it comes with a very presentable black casing and very useful stands (you don't get that from DIY setups). Although the given tubes are Solite and they are not the best one can get, it is decent enough to light up my tank. I must say, it's not a bad buy for a simple tank.
  20. Black provides the best effect as it creates a strong contrast between the subjects (corals, fish) and the background. Blue, on the other hand, seems pretty "artificial" to me. At the end of the day, it all boils down to personal preference. Take a look at some sample tanks and pick your choice.
  21. Actually I have no brands in mind. I just wanna know where I can get decent lights at reasonable prices. I merely suggested some brands that I remember seeing them somewhere. I won't be getting light-demanding stuff especially exotic corals (because I feel corals belong to the ocean and not in our tanks; yumas, mushrooms are actually anemones and not corals). Right now, I need recommendations of complete, commercially-available light sets that are on sale in our local shops. I want to go and grab a set before CNY. Thanks again.
  22. Hi, can you provide more info on the T5 light set? No. of tubes? Casing? Stands?
  23. Hi, My current 55W PL light set is dying and I feel now is a good time to get a better set of lighting for my 2 feet tank. I do not have light-demanding organisms but just a few pieces of orange yumas and assorted mushrooms. Hence I think 2x24W T5 would be a good choice. What do you think? I prefer to have a complete set with stands mountable on the typical 2 feet tank, so I guess DIY kits are out. Any recommendations (e.g. Solite, Atman)? Where to get them? for the help!
