  4. i have this idea that i didnt have the chance to try out: **for topping up water loss** get a 1.5l mineral water and fill it with new water poke a small small hole at the bottom and let the water drip into the sump this is to top up the water loss will it work???
  5. hi hi, if your bio filter (LR, caninster, etc) are still in place, changing the water wont have much effect. as you mentioned you have removed your sand bag, this might have some effect on your total bio capability... why not just wait for a week or so before you add anything in... no point rushing just to find another dead LS...
  6. Hi! bro, just happen to pass by... nice fished that you have just few suggestions: 1) do you wanna get a background for your tank? black cupboard(?), fishes will feel more at home when there is a background and in contrast with the background the colour of the fishes and coral will be better. 2) the water flow at the areas where the LR are stacked together might be a bit too slower due to the "closeness" of the LR (judging from the picture), any chance to improve it? ... how i wish i still have my tank with me.... miss the days...
  7. just a note, the proper base of comparision shall be those owning FH condo and not singaporean, no point comparing income with more than half of the singaporean as around 90% of them live in hdb. i having a feeling that this is the first long term purchase of the sis, the amount (600k or so) is the selling price of the FH condo and not the actual $$ that sis will have to pay. sis, you might want to ask for the absolute amount (deposit + total loan amount pay at the end of loan term + the compund interest for the loan in today dollars) to have a better idea. i guess it is easily around 800k (depending on the loan term and the interest terms) might be a party spoilter here, but hope that sis is making an informed decision (that will affect her (and her family) life for the next 20~30 years...

  10. ??? why not just perform a water change instead of doing all this???
  11. Hi! Bro, a few points and suggetion: 1) what is the salt that you are using? how frequent do you change your water? at least own some essiential test kit i.e amonia, NO2, NO3, PO4 now. 2) try rearrange your rock to minimise the contact point with your sand to reduce "dead" area, if possible try to let your rock stand instead of sleeping. the standing arrangement will also aid in water circulation 3) what is your plan to tackle the filteration for your tank? the mechanical filteration? the chemical filteration? the bio filteration? 4) what type of coral and fish do you want to keep? (read more about them from www.marinedepotlive.com, www.wetwebmedia.com, etc) === dont always take expert words for it, expert = they know what work for them but might not know what work for you as every tank is unique. you are the owner of the tank, the knowledge shall be with you, not with someone else the first 3 months of the hobby is critical, it will decide whether you stay and enjoy the hobby or be just another person who says: "marine is difficult and expensive, $&%&^%&%&" the learning is not easy and no one says it is easy but the end rewards is many times worth the efford
  12. Hi! there are a few things to consider before making the decisions: 1) what industry are both of you in? is it sun-set industry where the $$$ will becoming harder and harder to earn or are both you in some up and coming industry (as good as ever) where the $$$ will more or less flows in? getting a long term loan is... hmm... long term... not only the present earning capabilty has to be considered, futures earning has to be consider as well 2) how is the total asset portfollo like for both of you? do you have any FD, unit trust, stock, that can help tide over a period of 3~6 months (raining days)? house is NOT an asset unless it is fully paid for. so long as it is still under loan, the bank owns it, not the persons staying in it owns it. just take a look at those aunctions by bank on housing and you shall have a better idea. asset rich, cash poor is only slightly better than asset poor, cash poor 3) what is the life's planning in 5, 10, 15 years time? planning to have kids? futhering studying? overseas posting? do you mind staying in the same house for 5,10, 15 years? 4) and one last question is: what do you want in life? does buying it make you a happier person? IMO, condo shall be brought in the tune of buying a toy: you know that you are spending "unrecoverable" money but you get a kick out of it AND enjoy it. (it shall not degrade your current lifestyle) let me end by sharing this from robert kiyosaki: anything that put money in your pocket is asset; anything that remove money from your pocket is liability; know what you are buying

  23. might want to consider buying flake as well. from my experience, they will eat the whole piece at a go. formula 2 comes with garlic as well.
  24. ho ho sorry didnt see no fish. if yo do not have any fish, you might want to consider adding in other fish of your interest first. just make sure that are smaller in size to your blue tang cos blue tang might be a bit aggressive. add smallest fish then smaller fish then small fish...
  25. bro, what fish do you have in your tank? i am assuming that your water condition is fine thus asking the question.
