Hi Bro, what about your PO4? Lighting? Flow rate? How long do you have them? Are they opening up at LFS when you bought them?
-
safe. is yours a newly setup tank or established tank? if new tank can add in all at once...
-
if you are using fans, yes, the water will evaporate pretty fast. as for your fish, depends on what fish it is, fish like tangs will fade when light is off. you need to off the light, fish need to sleep too (no pun intended)...

Yo bro, how big is it?

URGENT: Want to borrow fish trap for brown tang and blue lip angel
asg replied to Spencer Lim's topic in Swop Shop
maybe you want to try the two nets methods? position a big net somewhere where the fish will swim to, and use a small net to chase the fish to the bigger net... -
Not much heat bro. I also use two fans to cool my 1.5ft then. Only drawback is has to top up water due to evaporation daily.

the general norm is bright = 3-5 watts/ gallon, very bright is 5-8 watt/ gallon... of cos it depends on what type of LS you wanna keep and how deep is your tank...

LED, T5... too many brands, many prices...

yes. 90% of the time I went to LFS I am seeing same same faces. The problem with this hobby is that we are seriously lacking fresh blood (at least in SG here), there are just too many competing hobbies that attract people nowadays. Plus the fact that some LFS are just selling LS for the sake of getting ROI on their shipment. Nothing wrong with that, but once you start to chop carrot or selling some LS to newbies which you know the LS wont last to see the next full moon, the only thing that happens is that you got a frustrated newbie... makes that happens 5 times 10 times 20 times... another decom tank + another newbie walking away from the hobby... for those of us reefers who remains, the LFS will have to find new ways to generate more revenue out of us in order for them to survive... maybe rowaphos will be $50 then instead of the $30 now... (of cos, amount I just anyhow quoted one lah)

bro, no offence, but if you dont use filter floss in your canister, all the fish waste + fish food + whatever will accumulate/ stuck at your bio filtration media, i.e. you will need to clean your canister too. by then you will have to rinse your filter media in seawater to clear the physical waste which post a greater inconvenience than just to wash the filter floss monthly. just my two cents worth of suggestion. You will find out more when you start to add in LS to your tank...
-
Can understand the prices varies depend on the batches of LS... but how hard it is to use a marker to write down the price on the side of the tank... for fishes, TFC has the price written on the side of the tank... iwarana does it for some of the fishes... but for corals... I dont recall any LFS doing so...

Bro, I used to use aquazonic and Pro Z for my 1.5ft. Although I have sold them, but they have served me well for my 1.5ft tanks.
-
bro, i think posting some pictures here will help boast your sales.

I always enjoy seeing clownfish hosting anemone. nice.

Hi! Bro. It would be good to have all three types of filters in your canister. for Bio filter, choices include biohome, bio-sphere, NP reducing pellets (XL). For mechanical filter could be combination of rough and fine filter floss and for chemical filter you can have rowophos (for po4), AC (for organic waste), Chemipure ellite (for NO3 + PO4), Doctor G nitrate remover, etc.
-
Bro, your current filter capacity (mechanical, Bio, chemical) is severely not enough for any fish. Like the bro above, I could strongly recommend a canister too so that you can keep some fish and coral. Keep water parameters good in small tank is no joke at all, you will need all the right equipment to ease your work.

My 2*1*1 RYBs mixed (up) reef tank and random reef thoughts
asg replied to asg's topic in Members Tank & Specs
24/09/14 - this is now, that was then. haha, managed to find some photos of my old tank (4ft, de com @2006). It is sort of interesting to look at the selection of LS I have then compare to what I have now. For fish, my love is still on that few species. For coral, things have really change a fair bit for me. Was using T8/ T5 as my light and running without a chiller, plus the fact that my pocket is very much shallower then. So nothing fanciful then, but I guess the anemone, sun, bubble, leather were growing well then. Let's take a ride thro time and revisit 2006 P/S: pardon me for some of the repeated photos, I am unable to sort them out as I have no description in the file name. -
I used to keep bubble, sun coral, leather, etc in a 4ft tank without chiller (see pict below). I used two fans to bring down the temp. what would help further is to have strong flow at the water surface to dissipate the heat. What critical to the well being of the coral is not the absolute temp but rather the fluctuation of the temp.

seaview got some... whether reef safe or not i am not sure...

if you DT is new.... most likely would be you QT is new as well... new = unstable water parameters = bad for your fish = ...
