Fieldwork Report (what SPS make it in my mixed reef)
asg replied to asg's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
19/01/15 - Don't die on me Brought two really nice blue aussie SPS (one i believe is a blue prostrata and the other is a acropora(?)) before my trip. somehow I feel connected (read: dont want them to die) with these two blue fellows. It is hard to get coral that has blue which is comparable to my little clamopora, Not navy blue, not sky blue, but sort of like water colour blue. I promise myself that I wont be stocking up any more SPS after the trip liao, as most nice SPS only comes in a fist size colony (way too big for my 2fy tank) and there are not that many choices of SPS frags in LFS. Spending big bucks on a colony and frag them are not exactly my cup of teas. Just too troublesome and taking up too much of my precious tank space. Not to mentioned that there is always this perception of profiteering. Anyway, to a SPS newbie like me who has a small tank, I am just puzzled that how come no LFS do the "customer service" of breaking a colony (assume selling at $90) into four frags (sell $30 * 4) , sell them, make additional profits at the same time... and save my fingers from super glue... Oki, lastly a book mark to tag the colour of the SPS and we shall see how they turn out after two week when I get back... keeping my fingers crossed. -

haha, I also like my clamopora a lots. But it just grows too slow ah -
Nice job bro, u make a 3ft looks so big [emoji41]
-
[emoji41] the most important thing is dont let them die ah.
-
Nice tank bro. 4 ft?
-
+1 to what reefgarden said. Suggest u remove top half of rock and make space for coral. Top space of tank is most precious.
-
Haha, then maybe I will be the first seller that says "yellow coral outside my tank, green in it"
-
_-" I will bring a blue torch when I go LFS the next time, just to be sure...
-
shit loh, does that means that if i dont change my light setting, i will forever wont see yellow SPS/ LPS in my tank liao...
-
sian ah, first is a yellow stylo, then follows by a yellow sunset acrop, then now is a yellow hammer... all put on number 4 liao
-
I see. Tonight I will go lower my blue light wattage, see whether it helps. Then how to get SPS or LPS to show yellow in DT... cos I have a yellow sun coral and yellow yuma, never face this disappearing yellow issue before
-
urgh... red to orange still not bad ah... mine yellow to green, green to green, so now i have an army of green coral....
-
Yo yo bros and sis-s, i have a question that i dont know how to ask... but i will still try... It started out this way... on several seperate trips, i bought diff yellow SPS from LFS. I swear they are yellow in the LFS... but when i put them in my DT after acclimatising them for one hour plus... they become green in my DT... today... i bought... a ... yellow hammer... it... also... become... green the moment i put it into my DT... So now come the hundred dollars question... where to check for colour blind ah [emoji23]

16/01/15 - Second Last Update As usual, FTS for this update How time flies, this update is the second last update of this fieldwork liao. Have already keep most of the SPS for 1 month plus. I would say that although the result is not spectacular, I am somewhat happy with how my SPS are after a month. So far out of the 15+ SPS that I got, 1 RTN and two browned. The rest are still maintaining their colours and the PE. BN, Digi and millies types of SPS are particularly doing well. Oki, enough of talking, it is time for 有图有真相。The next and final SPS update would be beginning of Feb, reporting on how my SPS are after my two weeks business trip. Hopefully no more RTN or browning case. Brown-ed since week 1 Doing reasonable well Overall view: Indv view Q-ing to-be-glue SPS lastly, two new type of SPS Clamopora Hammeropora -
Fish and coral are in bag for more than 30 mins when we left LFS to home. Do a WC and skip a feeding or two before the shutdown will help keep the water clean.
-
Hammer collected. Thanks all for the interest.[emoji41]
-
urgh.... bro can share your experience? I have two of them now...
-
depends on how we define reef safe ah. I have two electric blue hermit crabs. They are coral safe except the time they knock down un-glue corals... but they will really kill snail for their shells....

The only time I wish I do not have any fishes is when I come back to missing fish and a tank full of algae because of missing fish Anyway, not feeding SPS for two weeks wont be fatal? -

will raising the skimmer cup too much decrease the efficiency ah? or do you want to drill a small hole at the bottom of your cup and use airtube to connect the cup to a pail? I really very tempted to buy one more ATO and DIY an automated water change thingy... -

12 jan 2015 Weekly water testing shows that while NO3 still remains undectable, PO4 has some blue liao (still is less than 0.03). Cant wait to finish my SPS fieldwork report so that i can have time to update this RYB post. Seven more days to another two weeks trip. This time tank will have no human helps at all. Hopefully no 悲剧 when i come back. [emoji24] -
_-" wait few more months till the mother goes string her neighbor first... cesarean is a risky affair ah...

Gonio collected. Up for the mini hammer~
