Hey guys, have any of you gotten your Evansi to eat yet? I'm amazed mine's still alive, cos I was forced to do major rockscape the day i added him. He's rather shy though, only pops his head out when i feed, but he doesnt eat yet. Any other options other than Zooplankton? Thanx

Tell-tale sign for angels is a spine at the gill cover. -
Long-nose butterfly, Sunburst butterfly are best bets. These 2 can even be weaned onto flake! Some other good butterflies, (costly and RARELY imported) are the red sea butterflies, Golden, Red-Sea Racoon and my personal favourite, the white-faced butterfly. All adjust well to captive conditions. Good luck!

Hi, nice Butterfly tank! Had always wanted to set up a FOWLR with Butterflies and Angels! but no $$ UB1 ?? maybe Chaetodon lineotus, Lined Butterfly? Guessing cos of the continuous black bar. UB2 is Chaetodon vagabundus, Vagabond Butterfly UB3 is possibly Chaetodon adiergastos, Bantayan Butterly looking at the colouration of the mask and the tail fin, but the specimen you have has patterns on its body which are more disorganized than the distinctly diagonal patterns of the pictures on my books.

Many small sized potter's pygmys at ML as well.. -
Read a while ago (dunno where liao ), that clams do take in both ammonia and nitrate. However, the intake of ammonia is preferred over nitrate. Hence, in the absence of ammonia in an established tank, the uptake of nitrates can be quite significant. CheerS

Yahz... I wasted so much $ on that shit. If only had doone more research first. Am very happy with my Yamaha Pianocraft hifi... dunno about rock and music, but it plays my classical discs very well. Very clean transparent sound. -

Bose stinks... its only good for noisy action movies... put a classical track in and you'll puke buckets... -
I just spent a total of 3 days taking out each and every piece of liverock and scrubbing it in salt water. Realised that there's still quite a bit of coralline algae beneath. I believe manual labour + chemical means via activated carbon, phosphate and sillicate removers is the best method. Good luck!

First fish to add after cycling
IcecruncherZ replied to Ekia's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Some pple might not agree with me, but I like to add the blue tang as the first fish of the aquarium. Several reasons for choosing this fish: 1. Its an ich magnet, as we all know, and hence perfect for testing water conditions. If the blue tang's fine, you're likely to be able to do well with most other types of fishes... ie. pygmy angels and zebrasoma tangs (not acanthurus though) In the event of an ich breakout you can perform drastic measures ie hyposalinity whilst doing corrective measures to your water parameters. Such measures are difficult and inpractical after the tank is 'more established' ie with inverts... 2. Its docile temperament makes it the ideal 'first fish' of the tang. Most all other tangs, once established will reign over any newcomers (regardless of size, colour, species). Damsels, dottybacks and even some clowns can be nasty bastards as well, causing unnecessary stress when we add delicate fishes in the future. 3. Stupid point... they're nice to look at! Of course, I do not recommend adding these delicate fish into very freshly cycled tanks. Give it a few more weeks/ months than normally recommended, and introduce them into pristine water conditions and they'll do just great. Cheers~ -
Last year i wanted to get an apple at the PC show but they didnt have a booth... parents were so mad at me cos i lugged them down for nothing. If you go to J**or B*a*r* you can look around for Mac 'software'. As far as i know, Spore doesnt have Mac 'software', though my friend once told me that she saw some at Pasar Malams... Download acquisition as well. It's quite a good source. But the programme is pretty unstable.

I own a G4 Powerbook and I'm rather pleased with it so far, but there are problems that I must highlight... The battery is infamous for failing after 6 months> ie warranty period, do a search on battery problems and you'll see (mine has 1/3 the power left on it!) The bottom of the machine runs HOT!! The self loading disc drive is NOT infallible. I have on several occasions had discs that refused to eject and remained stuck for many minutes (some of the discs were not mine and you should see the look of horror on my friends' faces when the jammed mechanism makes freaky 'ka chuk' 'ka chuk' 'ka chuk' noises for minutes on end) Compatability issues with games, music processing software... etc etc. Virtual PC is NOT a practical means of resolving compatability issues, cos everything in there runs at snail speed. Other than the above points, its lovely. It's really stable, pretty to look at, and the display is marvellous. All my friends come over to my flat to watch movies on my laptop!

Interesting to read the viewpoints of actual teachers! Didnt know there were so many in the forum. I'm not sure whether juvenile delinquency rates or even abortion rates have gone up in reality. In the case of crime its likely that specific incidents have been blown out of proportion. As for abortion, it's likely just documented cases that have gone up. Our education system isnt a failed one in my opinion. In fact, it seems to be a resounding success at achieving the goals which were laid out when the system was first established like aeons ago. In fact, I dont quite agree with the current hoohaas on the cultivation of creative thinking and especially the way in which students are enforced to Carry out creative/ lateral thinking processes using a fixed set of guidelines. It's absolutely ironic. After experiencing the UK education for a year, it doesnt seem any more creative, enriching than what my friends in NUS describe. If a student does poorly in a particular module, he is encouraged drop it. No effort is seen on the part of the tutor to help the student better understand and grasp the knowledge. Also, the freedom we have over choice of modules has left the students here with little knowledge except on topics which we are interested on embarking further study/ research. At the end of the day, the knowledge we have gained is so limited! On the other hand, I am impressed with the programmes that some Australian Universities have to offer, which is in fact rather similar to the approach Singapore takes. Absolute saturation. Music students are forced to do French, Italian languages on top of other anxillary subjects which in fact are so necessary. However, it seems that Australian unis simply do not gain as much recognition as their UK or US counterparts. My friend from Australia attributes this to the calibre of the local students, as well as their generally more relaxed, nonchalent attitude towards their studies. Is this sort of attitude attributed to the flaw in the education system, or more towards the local culture? No education system is likely to be perfect, its more of how successful it is at attaining the goals initially set out. I'll probably be teaching after I grad from UK... must seek advice of all the shi fus here on how to interest and handle school children!! As much as i'd like to be one of those 'inspirational teachers', i can foresee sending my students to sleep with my monotonous drone... *sigh*

Sinularia Flexibilis, the Spaghetti soft coral. When i first introduced it into my tank (some reefer here sold it to me under the name neon green finger), it produced copious amounts of slime. Subsequently, i noticed my LPSes downcurrent werent opening so well anymore. Threw it away... bah~
