  1. i think u shouldn't guess- test with a normal powerhead to see if it works. 3000+ ltr at 15cm!wah even i will fly back from the pressure that comes out. i use the 1260 to pump up a height of 5 ft & total abt 9ft length of pvc.(my stand is 3.5ft tall + tank is 2ft tall) i lose abt 1000 ltr- so that leaves me with abt 1400ltr. i'm looking for low turn over anyway.
  2. LR alone can work, aka the berlin method. u need lots of it of the correct shape & low stocking levels. u will know what i mean when u fill your tank with LR, it gets full fast & u will want to leave some swimming space for fishes
  3. i use a 2213 purely for chemical purpose- carbon & phosguard. & a 2235 just for biological u can stick to what chris said or just sponge & ceramic makes it a biological filter & only need to clean every 60-90 days. i don't think there will be enough LR alone that u can fit into a 2ft to help nitrates.
  4. domzzz, what seawater? izit raw seawater or bought filtered seawater from LFS? your protein skimmer should be on as the water is bound to have dissolved organics. 1) 3-4 days to add what? LR is ok. livestock? hmm i think better to finish cycle first. 2) test today, add LR test a week later. test every week till u see no ammonia or nirite. if u dun feel good, let it run empty somemore then start stocking slowly(not 5 fishes in one go) 3) if using artificial saltmix u need to let it run & stabilize for abt a week, add LR. 4) No- bacteria will find their own way 5) how u fit in so much into a 2213? wool will clog & slow the flow down very fast, carbon u will need to replace every week or 2- u are not meant to wash canisters very often so a little biosponge(those that come with canisters) at the bottom where the water enters & fill the rest with ceramic is fine. bio balls take up too much space- ceramic serves the same purpose in less space. why u fill with substrate? u mean coral chips? this just becomes another bacteria medium-but the ceramic works better as it has a larger surface area for bacteria. as chris mentioned, u will end up with nitrates which is what the canister was designed to do. What u do to it from here is up to u- a NNR method or diluting by regular water changes.
  5. pospeh- keeping to facts,.....no more Good Faith(sorry Dino, boh pak kai leow) i think the posts/complaints usually happen after someone paid for it. does that then become a fact? does it then come under consumer rights? i would think this would be positive criticism & whoever affected would take it into consideration to improve their services, isn't this what u call a retail outlet-providing the customer with a service or goods? or is a retail outlet slogan meant to be, u want buy-not happy go fly kite. i think i want to open shop & charge everyone $50 per 2kg bag of red sea salt. pls lend me your support k. oh yeah!- can be used for cooking too! The negative things said or happened don't just happen once..its repeated over & over again for yrs. i put it down to not enough competition. So back to the facts,we shouldn't warn future hobbist of bad deals, wrong equipment, sick fishes, dead corals, dodgy prices, bad atitudes means we shouldn't praise any place as well right? Everwhere no comments. We should just stick to Buy first-find out later. ok ok! tomorrow i go fly kite & keep the money in my pocket too. i think there is no such thing as freedom of speech. It was made up by a fairy. but then again ................i think too much. Reef on
  6. on RC there are some calculators, u can calc the head pressure & final flowrate by entering the amount of pipe, elbows & height traveled. i did test to see if mine was working- only used flexible pipes to connect to pvc. i ran it on a 1260(2400l/hr)- it was working fine. i then hooked it up upside down in the water for abt 2hrs(once my final piping was done), switching was fine- runs abt 7-10secs each end. Already contemplating getting another! i still haven't hooked it up final... cause i'm really taking my sweet time with this tank. Have u tried blowing in the input? it should switch just by the power of your breath- if it doesn't...u got a faulty one. Have u tried it on a lower rated pump?- it could be the pressure! Take note that the warranty is 90days, write back to the place u ordered or the manufacturer. U may have to send it back for a replacement(of course US goods means u bare the shipping costs). Use Singpost to do it shouldn't cost much. Brandon
  7. If they had a hand in the sponsorship of SRC- maybe! but just sitting back & saying GOOD comments are welcome but bad comments are unacceptable is utter...........communism. On my planet it is anyway. So it is ok to say- purple nudis eat algae, dun worry if die- next week got new stock coming. Ocellaris clowns are percula clowns. Only shop owner can tell the diff, but can't describe to me how?. I'm wrong, should keep quiet & just buy.Yeh! kiss my ........ Selling of sick fishes is acceptable. Selling of half dead/ RTN corals is perfectly fine & acceptable. Almost all fishes are reef safe- except triggers. Bad comments arise from the service or quality of the LFS - if everything is well why should there be anything bad? of course there will be certain situations that arise- but if u follow SRC, if the LFS is good overall it will be protected by statements of fellow members. If we stuck to many of the LFS advise & stock only with no sharing or comments, half of the ppl will still be keeping FO with undergravel filters ! if it worked in the 70's why not now? We can't just comment about one & not the other when they all sell the same stuff?- again on my planet that's unfair, maybe unless the name of the shop is at the top. So why do i only see a shop that does not even sell marine livestock but only equipment? i do respect that & i do buy from them. sorry dino, i dun get the legal issues! but i got one> No shop names are mentioned in my personal view. yet! All in Good Faith Reef On
  8. Many moons come but peppermint never come. Been looking for 5yrs for that slim chance whenever i go LFS. Maybe...just maybe there is hope. Camel/Comet/Candy shrimp have a different direction of lines(need to search for a pic of both then u will know the diff)- otherwise hard to id if u just listen to LFS advice.
  9. a wookie is a giant chow chow on 2 legs. u got fur, u make noise,u eat,u drink,u pee - close enough! A big shihtzu would be an ewok.
  10. becareful phewphew Tumour likes dogs
  11. cut back your liquid food supplements by half,or quarter while u deal with it- this is the one fueling your hair algae. got it from feeding reefworld's frozen phyto before- & i'm pretty sure the Kent's phytoplex is a watered down liquid version after trying it out. its dead & if it stays in uneaten for more than a day then trouble comes. yeh pics
  12. u mean nobody does it? i think most do- unless i'm the only one who has seen what half a tank of saltwater does while its on the floor due to a back siphon from an airline. i did raise the plugs but the splashes of dripping water trip power during the nite. pumps-filters can be on the floor, i really mean extension plugs should be off the floor.
  13. AT - if u still want to rid of it i can pop buy on Fri if u r free. Drop me a pm. so i guess u won't want a white stripe maroon huh!
  14. thanks spiff No Hon, i already explained maroon cannot mix with other clowns.Neither can a blue boxfish(which is the most potent & hot tempered of the boxfish family). They must have a tank on their own(& must is not an option). i got a new 4ft cycling - i already planned what's going in- No impulse buying/No buy now find out later. Actually they already in quarrantine, just short of a powder blue tang. Green light on a 2ft just for them. Hee hee
  15. AT if spiff don't want it- i still owe my wife a yellow stripe maroon.(it seems a white striped one won't do) Spiff> with your permission? i'll be damn if i want it in my tank but........very valid reason to see .... another tank coming up.
  16. A cheaper version is hook up a 2nd hand UPS to 2 small $5 air pumps or one dual outlet pump- Run the 2 airlines into the tank(hidden in a corner behind LR) connected to airstones or open ended your preference(very important to include check valves into airline tubing). Power cut, pumps come on-provides minimum life support while low power consumption means pumps can run longer(a powerhead would drain too much pwr). Salt creep from the bubbles is the least of concern if u look at the situation u would be in. For Safety Raise all electricals off the floor.
  17. heh was it SUPER Fish away brand. label reads: all natural ingredients containing sodium cyanide, potassium cyanide and calcium cyanide. All are found in the form of a salt, but can be dissolved in water to form a liquid or a gas. other ingredients: Aloe Vera , colourings, preservatives. No more corals,No more fishes,No more ich,No more white spots!Problem solved.
  18. oh yeh, forgot abt that one- its a jap restaurant
  19. At the moment i entended the output with 13mm pvc towards the sump sides(that means water comes out directly at the glass), output is also located at the opp side of the return pump-not much just 10" away. In between for a temporary measure i added some floss to trap some bubbles- a very tiny amount still gets thru, very tiny that some would say normal but i want none. still finding possible designs for DIY baffles in RC, how many actual baffle plates i need-i only want a small one.
  20. right on, i got it translated for me...but all i got back was....skimmer..silencer...very quiet. still figuring how but worth a shot-maybe add some cotton wool, then next is micro bubbles in return!!
