  1. Hi Bro Neokn Thanks for the info. But are you sure it is the tailspot blenny? This specie has a distinguishing black spot on the edge of the caudal fin & comes only from the Philippines. Will still check with Auntie.
  2. Has anyone seen the Tailspot Blenny aka. ecsenius stigmatura for sale in Singapore? It is one of the more colourful blennies in the marine world. Only seen it on the internet & in books. Read that it is a friendly & colourful character. Does anybody own one?
  3. It is a good idea to test for nitrate level after a period of dosing Zeozym. Will do that after problem is resolved. Not a problem to keep reefers updated on the efficacy of this product.
  4. Seems like a good idea. A 2-in-one function. But let's see whether Zeozym works for my system. Thanks for the suggestion.
  5. One final question. Now that your algae problem is resolved, do you still dose zeozym once a week as a preventive maintenance measure? Or you have put the product aside to be used when necessary? Thanks.
  6. Hi Bro Comycus During the treatment period, did you bother to continue manually removing the nuisance algae? I'm assuming you started removing them even before treatment. Or did you let the biological process take care of them when treatment starts? I'm still removing them but it is very time-consuming & tiring work.
  7. Hi Bro ReDDeviLs Thanks for sharing your experience of using the Zeovit Zeozym with reefers. As you know, I'm currently using Zeozym to rid my tank of red slime algae which covered my fiberglass areas, live rocks & gravels. Started dosing last Friday using 2 teaspoonful of the powdered stuff mixed with 0.5L of tank water. Reef Depot recommended dosing once a week. I plan to dose twice a week until the nuisance algae disappeared. Is it enough? How many times did you dose a week when you had an algae outbreak? If you read the instructions on the product, it says to dose daily until the problem is resolved.
  8. Hi Bro Mag Thanks for your detailed reply. I have bought Zeovit Zeozym recommended by Red Devil. It is an enyzme-based supplement which stimulates bacterial metabolism to control slime algae. It is a biological way to rid nuisance algae. I am more comfortable with biological means as I have expensive corals. Will update reefers if it works for me. Cheers.
  9. Hi Steven I am attaching a link to a forum discussion on the topic of red slime algae removers by hobbyists. Read the entire thread on the topic to get a complete diverse views on the products. The negative feedback from some hobbyists is enough to make you think twice about using products that treat the symptoms and not the cause. For other sources, simply type "red slime algae removers" in the goggle search engine & you will have more diverse opinions. http://www.reefland.com/forum/reef-aquariu...ime-battle.html
  10. Hi Bro Mag I have read extensively on foreign internet forums on products such as Ultralife Slime Remover, etc. All indications from experts are that chemicals are a big no-no. Reefers are on both sides of the divide. You are the first local reefer I know who is endorsing this product. A couple of questions, if you don't mind. When did you use the product? There are no adverse effects on your sps & lps corals so far? Your system is still functioning well? Does the nuisance algae simply died off or disappeared after you use the chemicals? If so, maybe I should reconsider these products.
  11. I'm having the same problem right now. But I really doubt that it is simply a case of water flow because I have a powerful wavemaker but the problem is widespread. The red slime algae covers all area of the tank, including areas with high water flow. I wouldn't recommend using antibiotics like Boyd Chemiclean or Ultralife Red Slime Remover cos they may harm the invertebrates or kill the good bacteria in your filtration system. My colleague, who is also a hobbyist, had the same problem not too long ago. He simply let the system correct itself & over time, the problem disappeared. But it took months. In the meantime, I will just manually remove the nuisance algae & cut down on the feeding. A reefing brother suggested using a zeovit product. Maybe, it is worth reading up on it before you try it.
