Reef-safe Blue Throat Triggerfish?
Greenmariner replied to Greenmariner's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Thanks Bro for sharing. Since my post on this topic, I had increased my livestock by another two fishes. Three days ago, I saw quite a few blue throat & pink-tail triggerfishes at Irwana. Didn't buy as I believe my tank is already overstocked & I wanted to increase my sps collection. Still, I appreciate the feedback which might benefit other hobbyists thinking of buying this particular specie of triggerfish. -
Hi Bro Linko Thanks for the links. Haven't got down to reading them yet as I have just reached home. Will do so before trying out the new method. Will keep interested reefers informed of new developments in my tank conditions. Wish me luck.

Thanks for info. Just bought one today. Seller convinced me that a local hobbyist has managed to keep one for one & a half year before it perished from rescaping. My nano-tank relied on a 24-hour fan to keep cool. As it is a deep vertical tank, the water feels cold to the touch. Gut feeling is that it is probably in the range of 25-26 degree celsius. Well, will see how the fish adapt.

Hi Bro Been following your discussion on the zebra catalina goby from Mexico. Recently, Irwana brought in both catalina & zebra catalina gobies. My understanding from reading US marine fish forums is that these are temperate fishes that can thrive only in water temperature that are no higher than in the low twenties celsius. Anything higher will shorten their lifespan. For me, this requirement is the main deterrent to acquiring these otherwise vibrantly coloured & attractive fishes. Would like your opinion as you are currently keeping them.

Hi Bro Neo My compliments on your beautiful sps tank. I have been following the discussion on the amazing outcome of using Polyplab 4-bottle formula. I like to try this method to reduce nitrate & phosphate. But I couldn't find anything on these products on reefdepot.com.sg. Is there another website belonging to Reef Depot that I am not aware of ? Could you kindly provide the link to the dosing instructions on the relevant website? Thank you.

PO4 less than 0.03, still have nuisance algae.
Greenmariner replied to rekian's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I find that the best snails are cowry snails. They are very effective in shearing off hair algae from live rocks. The sheared rock will looked white again. But these cowries cost $5 apiece & the only consistent source is Coral Farm. -
I am thinking of getting a blue throat triggerfish. From available articles & chats on foreign forums, my conclusion is that it is a reef-safe planktivore. Apart from corals, I have snails & algae-eating urchins that I equally valued. In addition, I have a seagrass filefish. Would they co-exist peacefully? Would appreciate feedbacks from experienced reefers.

WTS : Berghia Nudibranch (Aiptasia Eater)
Greenmariner replied to Greenmariner's topic in Sell off/Pasar Malam Shop
I am withdrawing the sale with immediate effect. Moderator, please close this thread. -
Wish to sell a Berghia Nudibranch that I pre-ordered & collected from Iwarna yesterday. Bought a seagrass filefish from Marine Hobbiest in early March that was supposed to rid my tank of aiptasia. The fish didn't touch the stuff until 2 days ago. Now, there are only 2 aiptasia left. Hardly enough to sustain the nudibranch. Selling price is $25. Interested reefers can sms me at 96221910. Collection at Bedok North.

Thanks to all who had viewed and/or responded to this post. I have committed to buy 3 bottles from 2 brothers. These bottles should last me a while. Moderator, please close this thread.

Urgently looking to buy a bottle of Goodbye PO4 from anyone who has a spare bottle. Any size is fine with me. The only local lfs supplier for the product, Marinelife Hobbiest has run out of stock & does not know when new stocks will come. Would appreciate if a local hobbist with an extra bottle to spare, could sms me at 96221910. Regards Greenmariner

To clarify what Bro Poomoon said about the fat spotted Mandarin at RD. It is not only surviving on live pods in the tank continually supplied by a connecting refugium. It is also trained to feed on prepared food. My own experience with blue Mandarin in a 3ft 8" tank with lots of live rocks is far less satisfying. Despite replenishing the tank monthly with a bottle of live ocean pods or tigger pods, the fish becomes thinner & thinner & I think it is only a matter of time before it died of starvation. My only option now is to try to catch it & release it into the sea. For those thinking of keeping a Mandarin without a refugium, as in my case, I suggest you think twice.

Warfare between different Euphyllia species
Greenmariner replied to Greenmariner's topic in LPS Coral forum
Thanks to all who have answered my queries. For my sake, I hope they are right in saying that different euphyllia species can co-exist peacefully. So far, although the two corals have not touched each other, there is also no sign of trauma in either coral. Hopefully, it will stay that way. -
Just bought a hammer coral from a hobbyist. Placed it about 1.5 - 2 inches away from a frogspawn coral. Being of the same family, would they co-exist peacefully? Or being of different sub-species, would the more aggressive euphyllia specie sting the less aggressive one? Does anyone know? Thanks Greenmariner

I'm afraid my pH was 7.8 when the light is on. As for water movement on the surface, I believe the flow is sufficiently strong. Anyway, your points are noted.
