  1. don't worry you are not alone.... many lazy reefers out there....me included
  2. that's why the deltec self-cleaning devices come at a premium.....or if RM can make one for their skimmer users, then it would be great.. because you don't have to clean the internals of the skimmer (the foam has a clear and clean path all the way to collection point)....and you dun have to clean the cup since nowdays collection cups come with drainage fittings.... great for lazy reefers
  3. lol...this one i also wonder how to help you.... can be light greenish...light yellowish..light brownish or other colours depends on your system mah... but the confirmed colour is DILUTED-colour... then you may ask, how diluted is diluted? then i will say, personal preference of the wet-dry spectrum
  4. this one is pretty subjective...and there are those who prefer dry skimmate and those who prefer wet ones.. one thing for sure is that if you have wetter skimmate, you are going to have less waste per volume of skimmate than a dryer skimmate.... which means.....u need to *sacrifice* more usable tank water to bring up the wastes to collection point, but some feel that this leads to faster collection of waste==> due to less bottlenecking of dryer skimmate end up on the extreme end of the wet spectrum and it will mean you will lose tank water very fast.....end up on the extreme end of the dry spectrum and you will lose skimmer performance when all the waste on the internals are impeding the rising foam so it's a matter of finding a balance, your personal sweet spot also.. doesn't it sum up reefing as well? BALANCE is the key.
  5. if u want u can try to adjust for wetter skimmate like weileong suggested but be careful not to induce flooding while adjusting. this will shorten the length of the dirty inner neck but will not eliminate it totally also.. definitely, the foam will burst prematurely and this premature reaction takes place lower and lower the neck and it ends up as a bottleneck for your skimmer's performance. what you really want is for the dirty stuff to be collected in the cup/waste collector, not collected on the internals of the skimmer
  6. i just ask my maid to pour the coralife tub of skimmate away as part of her household routine (like clearing the wastepaper basket).... as for my inner neck, it's always kept clean so i don't really have to do anything to my skimmer nowadays. if u ask me to climb ladder to maintain my skimmer every week, u will see a slimmer me for sure
  7. you can try peninsula shops for camera trade-in.. but hold your horses.....nikon may be announcing new cameras in spring similarly for canon, they offered 300d long time back and then nikon bettered it with D70.... and a canon replacement will be due to better the D70 very soon..... the canon 20d displaced D100 in the midrange, and nikon will be due to better it with a replacement for their D100... so wait around spring for the new releases....some international photographic expos around then and that's when they launch new models or announce new models
  8. get a better skimmer for reef, maybe also can change water once a year too (of coz still must watch your parameters and dose trace if u want) sorry i not pro and not confident enough yet, still stuck at half yearly changes despite a much improved skimmer.....although even at half year still doesn't seem to need an change, i just do it anyway. half a year "exercise" one time is reasonable for my body....old liao...no strength to change so much water frequently i use 2 largest-size toyogo tubs u can find in carrefour for water change...not sure exactly how many percent of water change is that...but that's the most i change anyway...hehe i changed water last year 04 mid-year.....and just did one recently 04 year end....next due change 05 mid-year but i must state that regular water changes is always better, please do not follow if you are not confident with your system
  9. you mean the inner neck? you can try the "deltec type" of self cleaning device or some other ingenius DIY gadgets...approach RM for suggestions since that's where your skimmer is from
  10. intro triggers? then you will be solving the problem with a bigger problem and then maybe next time intro a shark to eat up the triggers?
  11. can't remember how much... i came, i saw, i netted, i paid and i left hikari frozen food, pellets..cyclopeeze.... nice coral beauty u have...
  12. they are the least likely to peck on corals compared to their bigger angel cousins... but of coz there is a risk of dwarfs doing that as well..... so it depends on how confident you are with your system and fishes....if you intro dwarfs into a community where they are allowed to roam the open waters as much as they like....sooner or later they may discover the pleasures of the flesh But like I said, my existing community does not allow the dwarfs to mingle in the open water and the only mischief the dwarfs can conjure are limited to the back half along the 6ft length....where there are only rockworks and caves/tunnels for them to turn to microfauna and microflora/algae ...as well as the generous flood of food channelling into the rockworks during tangs/anthias feeding time you have also heard of tangs pecking on corals....so, nothing is really 100% reef safe... it may help if one has good understanding and feel of his system and undertake abit of "fish psychology" on his fishes....and of coz..good fengshui helps too heard of the saying where some people just have "green fingers"? similarly, some have fish fingers as well
  13. mistake hor..... not everyone into dwarf angels...alot are into their bigger angel cousins... my reef is only 6x2x2....they are in my reef rockworks they dare not venture into the open waters because my tangs and anthias are patrolling the open waters, that's why you see all the pictures of them are taken with close proximity to rocks and alot under rockshades no secrets.....just good fengshui that promotes harmony amongst them
  14. turn your camera dial to S for speed priority mode... then select 1/80s and force your flash to be activated by pressing the flash button and go shoot your fishes....dun touch ISO for now.... but if you need to play with ISO, it should be embedded in your MENU function... go to your manual and look for ISO under glossary and the relevant page pertaining to it http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/konicaminoltaz2/page2.asp
  15. it adjusts the light sensitivity of your digicam's sensor... higher numbers means more sensitive to light (photons) in any case...i means that if you shoot at 1/80s or 1/100s and the picture turns out dark...then you increase the ISO to a higher level to get a brighter picture... as for me..i shot with 1/80s, flash on, ISO 100. lock on...and shoot them
  16. Try to set your aperture speed manually to 1/80 seconds or 1/100seconds... then force the flash manually....and shoot. means u go to speed priority mode of your camera...set to the speed i mentioned on top, press the flash till it die die activates and shoot.... as for ISO setting....try to use the lowest setting so that the picture will be less grainy and noisy.... go try....but the only thing i worry is your camera's focusing speed...i am afraid by the time the camera locks onto the fish and you press the shoot button..the angel is long gone... but nonetheless, go give it a try.
  17. what camera are you using? let me see if i can offer suggestions for you to capture your goldie
  18. info network ah... never mind lah...wait for our dearest Lady Ang to be back...then the satellite network will be fully back in operation.....now this satellite on the other side of the globe providing US intelligence I think matter of taste lah....because i was intrigued by multicolor angel's name when i first heard it..but when i saw it in person...i noted the head eletric blue headband is attractive but the body seems whitish and boring to me....i was really expecting MULTI-colour all over the body....well probably if it fits the name to a tee..then the fish would probably be a freak...but never mind..hehe so i saw this Nahacky with the similar electric blue head banding but body more interesting than the multicolor....so between Nahacky and multicolor, it's Nahacky for me lor..hehe more dwarfs guys...dun hide your pygmy beauties
  19. very true... can proudly bring it back to singapore with little problems through customs hor..... lijie big gorgor (name correct? ), any idea of Nahacky's? looks like a multicolor angel head but body more variety of colours....seen in singapore yet?
  20. hell expensive for a colour combi that looks like a cheap bicolor angel... if i am not wrong, i heard 800-1000 and the word japanese came out..i think it went to japan as you have expected
  21. maybe u can get paired flamebacks like what i did with my flames..... locked them together in a room and let them sort it out
  22. was brought in before at LCK.... but immediately exported out... seems that the japanese like joculators..... as well as replendents...blah blah blah
