  1. yeah...even with good appetite...if the level of ich is too high, eventually they may succumb...depends on the specimen...garlic will help boost immunity...but they stop at just that...if the provided boost is not enough to ward off the ich onslaught...feeding how much garlic also not too effective... coz if you notice, sometimes there isn't much ich on the fish and then bang...it comes back again...through the several cycles of ich..the fish gets weaker and weaker whereas the absolute amount of ich population gets larger and larger and each time it comes back to host on the weak fish..it leaves the fish in greater amounts and comes back again....and to the point even your strongest fish in your system may succumb to the sheer level of infection.. just think of geometric progession in the way ich reproduce...and u will know how scary and how painful it is for your fishes to have them attack and leave again and then come back in larger numbers again till your fish finallly decide to give up, feeding or not.... 1centworth again
  2. lvcap: dare not ...after my baby powder wrecked havoc on my 4ft tank...i am sure you would remember if you were in the forum at that time from that time onwards i told myself i will not touch another powder blue...and i still glad i haven't .. but some other bros here have success with powder blues, like our boss AT, deepblue, tanggy...others i cant recall offhand now
  3. if u know you already have ich in your system, especially high infection, it's best you lay off tangs as much as you can...so that they will find less chances to get a body to host on.... they are just waiting for you to provide them a hosting ground again and when you again introduce an ich prone fish...especially powder series, AT or some other sensitive tangs...then they come back again in large numbers... what you would want to do is to reduce them to as low a level as possible before u try a tang again...and even when you decide that it's time to try again..do it with a more ich resistant tang...yes..all tangs are prone to ich..but some are more bulletbroof than others... and of coz you cannot measure how much ich you have in your system...but like i said...it becomes a combination of your judgement and luck to decide when to add the next tang just my 1cent worth
  4. yeah, henry's food is pretty good... quite easy for fussy fishes to start eating.. sometimes even with ozone or UV, you cannot completely eradicate ich, because the ozone or UV, even at peak efficiency, at most kill those in the water flowing thru the uv steriliser or the skimmer especially where most ozone are plugged into... it may help to control outbreak at least you know something is done to the parasites flowing through the UV or skimmer...but the other stages of the parasite may not eventually end up through this eradication process and thus keeps multiplying in low levels which sometimes does not even show up on the fish itself...not at least visible to our ###### eyes...more so when most fishes are not black, unless you have an AT or black tang which makes white spot more obvious... in a hospital/quarantine tank, if one can change water regularly and scrub the surfaces, it does help to dislodge ich at part of its life cycle..but in a reef tank...ich may be in your live rocks, sand, or other hosting ground... but once part of its life cycle is reached when it becomes free swimming, that's when you hope most of it goes thru the UV or ozone process to be destroyed... but this is only one small aspect to prevent ich outbreak....i am sure other bros here will have other experiences and opinions to share also
  5. yeah...when i put him in clam tank...4th day appear the spots...i scared infect the rest of the tangs in the main system, put him in toyogo tub...after that move him to a 4ft tank and then feel confident enough than put him back into the main system...and on 4th day in main system, come out white spots again....but after that he just got better and better....till no spots now thats why i believe there is a low level of infection sometimes in our tanks....which reflects what that was niceeee said...sometimes u think dun have coz other fishes dun have...then u put a new fish in....then it starts to appear again... so when the new fish finally starts to get used to his environment and eat alot, then that's when it has a real fighting chance against ich.. meanwhile you can only try to keep parameters up and hope the new comer doesnt become a hosting ground for ich which multiplies, regroups for an outbreak for the rest of the fishes.
  6. wah..your fishes can tahan swimming in front of the stream ah.... wat a rare shot...seldom see fishes going near that front of the stream
  7. yeah, i guess marineman uses the NS highway more often than some of us do, so definitely he is more familiar with the terrain and characteristics of the highway... yeah weileong, u often drive up to see stars, must be careful
  8. next time can have a stand by beckett skimmer parade...hehe
  9. no problem.. well, if you are afraid the current is too strong, having controllables will definitely help and more pro looking also... yeah, iwaki pumps are legendary the sandbed are u intending to make it a DSB? if its just a simple sandbed, you can opt for slightly bigger grain sizes instead of size 0 so that the streams will not blow the sand around so easily... not too sure on the 4 powerheads.....they use alot of wattage in comparison with streams which can easily match their flow and i guess u already know...and they project a narrow strong path of water flow which some corals may not like... but it's best you take a few pics, start a new thread under your nick in member's gallery and then from the pics, we all can chip in and offer suggestions
  10. i agree that tyres are very important....in fact i remember a saying that goes something like a car is only as good as its tyres... meaning no matter how prestigious or simple the car, what holds the car on the road well are the wheels, not the brand of the car..hehe something like that lah...cant remember the full quote...dunno who quote also...hehe
  11. watever the case, must budget well, dun spend too much on reef and miss out of the finer points in life like going out with frens or gf and spending money meant to be spent... as long as you still have enthusiasm despite hiccups along the way, i am sure bros here with offer help and opinions for you as reference...and you will enjoy the sometimes painful yet sometimes pleasant journey when you get your tank fully stocked up the way you want
  12. cookie: issit those that can detect if the floor is wet? steady leh.. or drop/rise of water level will activate it wait people mop the floor.. the alarm keep activating..hee
  13. the peg maybe 忍无可忍 already... and starts to sing..."I want to break free" hehe...anyway i am glad you are not too affected by this setback... still can joke and luff means ok keep your chin up, i am sure when all starts to run well, you will appreciate your success more
  14. if i were you bro giantbike, i'll tell my dad, give me a blank cheque and i will solve the problems...lol... kidding lah....wait he handcarry your tank and put outside the corrider..hehee
  15. dispar: it's beyond our control when things go bad when we are not around to rectify. sometimes they are avoidable if we had been more careful in planning and fixing the tank up or watever....we can't be 24hrs beside the tank also.. bwilly: yeah..that time i only use 1 6060 in my old 4ft tank to blow against the direction of the return pipe.... using 2 will definitely be better, somemore your return pump is md55...powerful sia...my return pump was eheim 1262 only....not as much flow as yours after height loss
  16. freddy..i am using 3 now.. 1 TS7...1 6060 and 1 6080 only the TS7 is adjustable...but i think with the few streams..the TS7 is a waste because 3 streams blowing towards the center of the tank will result in alot of random flow also..no need an adjustable stream... actually TS7 is just an adjustable 6060 if i am not wrong....
  17. sometimes better dun push luck too far..hehe his father din ask him throw away the whole tank already very heng already....let alone buy somemore stuff...hehe... but nonetheless, a good cheeky idea to get the father to invest in some flood control also
  18. yus: dunno in real life will be dizzy or not... if it still creates a dizzy effect, i think i still would not try this gadget no matter how effective....hehe...dun wanna run to the bathroom and everytime watch the reef for too long
  19. if i am not wrong, NTUC does sell them in styrofoam trays wrapped in transparent food wrap....not too sure...just a guess
  20. yeah lor...raining very dangerous...always must be alert.. actually the accident caused the metal wheel arch to flush with the rear right tyre, and after the accident...the tyre was literally rubbing on the metal arch....so all cars went slow and then faster look for exit and asked the locals where is the nearest workshop and luckily there was one nearby and all the cars parked there, went to have a nervous lunch..and let the workshop knock the arch back up so the tyre do not rub against the arch..proceeded to genting slowly..came back to singapore than repair fully... i decided to post this because i think some bros here will bring families up to genting or KL during the school holidays and just want them to take note.... and happy holidays...hehe
  21. great advice siput and wedgee ..thanks...
  22. you are right boss.....every time extended family get together watch horror movies, the movie not frightening..but we guys get shocked from the screams of the women around us instead but seriously, it dawned upon us that the more important people in the extended family were in the car above and suddenly we realise that if all suay suay really could not live to tell the tale, almost all of that generation of elders in the family gone so we have learnt to spread people around different cars ....remember the legendary Man U flight accident which wiped out almost the entire team in the past? gee... and guess what boss? At genting, we went to see the movie screening that weekend....the title? "DIE ANOTHER DAY" ...spooky or not?
  23. saturday ah...must see lor...like what i told you... you know me lah..i generally more free on weekdays than weekends... weekends alot of commitments and errands to run... but i try lah...you sms me in the morning when you wake up... yeah...my wordings suei ah...hehehe..oops... i am sure you got better ones..never show your kung fu only... anyway, i am sure you will make your wife proud to bring her guests home to admire your new tank
  24. yeah..bought most of them from CF, but sometimes i buy them for frens and relatives also... in fact i netted out a significant amount of PQs since my AT went in...coz with all equipment constant, the AT will significantly produce more waste and cause a drop in water quality... and i feel that it's easier finding good purple queens than a good AT specimen. Thus, i netted out my PQs gradually.... till july when a new skimmer is due, then i can stock back up on PQs or some other anthias
  25. then again to ask experienced drivers here, what should we do when its raining cats and dogs and before you know it, you got into a deep puddle and its pulling you...should u brake..or should you not brake and just try to ride thru the puddle without tapping the brake or the accelerator.. i personally feel that my uncle made a wrong move by braking , perhaps too hard till the car went on an uncontrolled spin... any opinions?
