  1. modified looks like this.... although the slightly better modified sine wave forms take the shape of HDB staircase...it goes up...at staggered edges... this non smooth waveform cause problems with my eheims and tunzes... i can only run them smoothly on pure sine wave UPS if your tunze is near the water surface....the wave action will both improve oxygen exchange and movement in the tank to prevent some corals from suffocating in their own slime... definitely beats battery operated air pumps
  2. this is the true sine wave that APC SMART UPS uses
  3. i just got a remora pro last night..dun worry, you should be able to get yours too
  4. all pictures from now powered by my new hitachi 4GB microdrive
  5. here are some more pics to salivate
  6. welcome to the club great piece..will turn out better than mine for sure... i had eyes for it the moment i saw it
  7. New toy new toy AquaC Remora Pro, gotten from a bro here can use for 2ft sps cube next time, or 2ft mushrom/rics garden, or 2ft carpet anemone tank i wonder why no PRO word on the sticker but the dimensions are the PRO version
  8. patrick: actually i only connect my 6060 to the UPS...lol... on a new full battery, i am sure it can last more than 6 hours....because my UPS model can load up to 50W and last about 5hrs odd according to manufactuer specs... a 6060 with 6000litre/hr of flow sure beats any battery operated airpumps....i dun have to connect all 3 streams lah.... i am using 3... TS7, 6060 and 6080....but as my width and height is only 2ft by 2ft....so actually there is alot of flow and whiplash already.... actually 2 at each end is enough...how powerful each one? i really cannot recommend much as different scaping and width and height of the tank will affect the flow and whiplash direction... but i know if i am looking at the top of the tank...although all 3 streams are almost clashing together....there is a net anticlockwise movement of water in my tank looking from the top
  9. haha..you ah.... i kept bumping into your fren past few days..he got tell you or not?
  10. eh..i also told you to use car jack right? although i ask you to use giant car jack
  11. the female end... hope the pics are useful
  12. yeah..this is a pic of it...went to to dig for it... both ends , one female..one male end .... yeah..tat was wat i did...connect to a power strip with 2 sockets to plug in device...hehe
  13. can...if you look at the back of the UPS...it's those kind of 3pin connection like those monitor power cable.. i bought an adaptor at sim lim sqaure....that can plug into this socket and yet this adapter has a normal 3 pin hole that you can plug your 3pin or 2pin devices... this adaptor less than 20 i think but hor..in the end i never use...i duno where i throw this adaptor..if i can find again i take the pic for you to see.. in the end i use a similar shape cable to plug into the back of the UPS (outlet) and then cut the cable and join it to a normal 3pin hole power socket....and then i plug my stream into this socket..hehe hope u are not confused
  14. yeah man.. some reefers i know purposely like to get such sps.. coz its reasonably cheaper....and yet can get a TIKAM feeling.. you never completely know how it's going to turn out but like joe said...sometimes the wait for it to colour up can be quite agonising.. you may tell yourself to pay more for better coloured ones next time.. no point facing a tank of glico sticks and then hope that in months to come, they will colour up... sometimes the patience and hope just turns to sheer frustration... heng i am not in this expensive hobby of sps......er....yet
  15. haha... yeah lor...coz the smart models meant for backup up servers..they got a whole load of rubbish functions that we do not need one...lol you can even link the UPS via USB port to manage its functions...lol but we need the pure wave form...and that's what makes it expensive lor... if you dun believe..go buy the $72 one....go home try on your lights and pumps.. the lights will work well, abeit abit of flickering more than usual...but at least light up.... for eheim pump..i used 1262 to try...totally cannot flow well.... maybe other pumps can... afterall it's $72, you can use it to back up your computer if really not suitable in the end...hehe for all you know...my trial wasn't comprehensive enough and maybe indeed some pumps can run on the cheaper modified sine wave models
  16. yeah man...i saw... some newbies who see them will get excited instead....maybe they will feel wahhh...although brown, but start to colour at the tips already sorry hor...its the other way round....it was all colour at harvest...but already start to brown from bottom all the way up liao....delay somemore end up the colour tips also gone i brought a fren who is a complete newbie to reefing to see sps once...he say...wahhh..so nice..got purple or baby blue tips at the end....like dat means very good issit.. then i show him a book with sps in full colour, he wahhhh....he din know can have such colourful sticks in the ocean
  17. if only 6060...then possible... but imagine you are overseas...you will rather get one knowing that it will outlast the longest blackout.... i was telling myself...if the battery out of juice liao..i must go stir water liao... this morning wun have strength to type already... but before the battery can stretch its legs...power back on...lol so you may be right in getting a smaller model to run a small stream... so far in singapore history how long was the longest blackout ah...hehe
  18. surfedelic: there is one on yahoo auctions now... exactly same model as mine...here http://page.auctions.shopping.yahoo.com/sg...50?aucview=0x23 i got it much cheaper from fren there are alot of features in it..actually not needed for aquarium uses as it was meant for computer servers backup...but we need the pure sine waveform to get our pumps to work properly....so bo bian... APC only their SMART models incoporate the pure sine wave....the rest are all modified or stepped wave...other brands also have a distinction between their normal models and pure sine wave models.. check the specs sheet before you buy...if not bring home liao..have to bring back again to change...and...such UPS tend to be quite heavy even if you have a car...the walking with it from the shop to carpark and vice versa is enough to leave you panting... or maybe it's just me...i am not fit enough
  19. wah liew..cannot lah.. the normal ones with stepped modified sine wave doesnt work with my eheims and tunze streams...try before liao..somehow the eheim turned noisy and not much water flow come out.. the stream no noise, the blade inside was turning..but no significant water push out... so forget it...u need the pure sine wave models...other brands also have.... if wanna use modified sine wave models, they do ok if u just want to run some lights.... and hor 500VA....it wun be able to give you comfort of mind once the black out passes the 1hr stage...depending on what you run...the initial draw will be quite significant...may not last you 1 hour even...hehe
