It just shows that I am watching......Why you might wonder? Cos if the response of such selfpaired clowns is good, I will import 1000pcs of clowns and do the pairing job myself 500pairs of paired clowns from Roidan's Reef....wonder will it be marketable or not Sorry Dazer, most probably I am going to sell it @$39.99

done.

A tall/higher base box is good as i have seen too many becketts around with 'pancake' bases which result in alot of microbubbles exiting the skimmers. Glad to see another beckett user
-
yup.... wanna quarrel, try to do it in PM... wanna be heard, post in kopitiam... I will be watching, meanwhile let's get back to SUPER SUN CORALS

me not 3-in-1 comic character lah...you drink too much 3-in-1 coffee liao Batman is me....... Robin is the boy wonder... well, the JOKER? Hope he is doing well in Arkham Asylum

Criticise Like A Man But Apologize Like A Wimp
roidan replied to Gouldian's topic in General Reefkeeping_
When he finishes his studies and steps into the working world, we'll see if it'll change him.....provided he stays long enough in this hobby and in this forum for us to see the change Meanwhile, happy reefing, and as long as he does not 'harm' this forum or reefers in here, let's just be more accomodating -
certain stuff added to the water will cause skimmers to react abnormally...I won't be surprised if the whole tube of epoxy is causing this hyperactiveness of your H&S... If your H&S is external version that uses a feed pump, try to reduce the rate of the water feed and see if it helps. And also make sure your outlet is at full open position for now.

Dark Greenish jade like bubble just burst
roidan replied to GodFather's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
It's most probably a valonia....a form of pest algae if uncontrolled. spores are released with the bursting....and you will have more of these around. http://netclub.athiel.com/algae/algae.html -
because i posted something in error before your post....and you quoted my error-post in your post after that... so i removed my error-post and remove the error-quote in your post

What is the optimu kick in/out time for a chiller?
roidan replied to dleecool's topic in General Reefkeeping_
It is not too good for a chiller to keep cutting in and out very soon one cycle one after another. The more on-off cycles it goes through, the faster it is going to wear and chances of breaking down is higher. A chiller consumes alot of power everytime it cuts in. And if your chiller cuts in very often, it will consume more electricity than its base power consumption. but you also can't have a chiller running the whole day also, that is overworking it. -
depends on what you are keeping... but whatever you are keeping now, sooner or later a chiller will be a necessity rather than just an option for you.

If I am not wrong you have to use atman 5500 submerged and this will add considerable heat to your water, but then it will be definitely quieter. Since you really want to get a beckett skimmer and yet do not want the noise, you will have to only consider submersible pumps. Batmobile is only for batman and the occasional robin
-
The pump itself can't be made quiet unless u really remove the pump fan. But this will cause the pump to overheat. So you will need to find another fan quiet enough for your ears but yet powerful enough to cool the pressuremonster But if noise is such a big issue for you, i would suggest you head straight for the quieter needlewheels as I feel that becketts love being coaxed by these external pressure-rated pumps.... but no point if the beckett can perform for you but you are getting migraine from the noise
-
I am using mx100 on my beckett. The pump fan is indeed noisy if u compare to pumps of other skimmers...... i)either you locate the pump/skimmer in a place where noise isn't an issue ii)place the pump/skimmer in a cabinet that has some holes for ventilation and you can further soundproof the cabinet interior with soundproofing foam if u want to (although the holes for ventilation will still leak noise but at least not the full brunt of it) iii) remove the pump fan and use a quieter fan to cool the pump
-
no problem bro...just my guess anyway...hehe btw, needlewheel skimmers do have a venturi also, but like i said earlier, their venturi happens at the intake (suction) side of the pump so that air can be drawn in, chopped by the impeller into the fine fine bubbles that needlewheels are famous for.... But I think not many will know that such venturis are vastly different from orthodox venturis because needlewheel venturis are far far less restrictive in the chamber design Output side venturis (mazzei/beckett)have small restriction to pressurize the water flow through them to produce small bubbles....too big a bore size will result in less pressurization and ultimately large bubbles....so they have small bore sizes in order to produce small bubbles but u need a strong pump to drive through an obviously small bore. Input side venturis (needlewheels) have a wider bore in the chamber with the sole purpose of ###### in sufficient amount of air to be chopped up in the next stage in the impeller chamber. Thus this kinda of venturis need not be as small bored as the output side cousins above...as the job of producing small bubbles is handed over to the needlewheel impellers. My personal observation and deduction
-
My guess goes like this..... If you had been using the original venturi, the strong flow of water will be restricted by the redsea venturi, drawing air before facing a pressure drop after the venturi into the body of the skimmer.... But in your case now, the strong flow of water past the mazzei injector will *attempt* to draw air too, but remember this time after this first injector, there isn't a real pressure drop into the chamber of the skimmer. Instead, there is yet the original injector awaiting not too far away that restricts the flow again, this may cause the back pressure that actually leads to your first injector shooting water out instead of ###### in air because of the lack of *pressure drop zone* after this first injector. Just my hypothesis
-
hmm..then could it be that connecting 2 such venturis in series will cause the problem that you are facing? I never tried it myself before.
-
seems that your shorter portion is attached to the output of the pump as thc said, but how about the air hose/tube that you are using to attach to the mazzei venturi? how come it's not in the picture?
-
i think it will help alot if you take a few pics

acidjazz, i have mentioned somewhere earlier, ''to be fair to him, not all of his items are badbuys, but whether reefers want to deal with him in any form watsoever, it's up to their own discretion.'' And that's why I keep mentioning that, once he decides to clean up his act and gets down to doing it, I am sure reefers in here will be always ready to forgive him. But the onus is on him now to gain back the trust of the reefers again. He cannot erase the fact that he has done all these things to the reefers in here and other forums, and we will not erase the fact that all these has happened. If he did not feel guilty after the florida swop-issue and if he felt that he had conducted his ric swopping in good honour, why did he have to changed nicks to offload the blastos and pretend that he is another new person to the forum? It is precisely the fact that he was expecting everyone to be chin chai, expecting that he will never be pointed out, expecting those who had a sour taste after dealing with him will forgive and forget at a moment's notice. And that's the reason why he was able to do it AGAIN and AGAIN. And in case many do not know, sour deals revolving him have gone way back almost a year already and we all can see that he clearly did not have intention to stop even recently. If we do not step in, he will probably carry on for posterity, and I am sure this is what we do not want to see.
-
The mazzei should be at the outlet of the pump instead of the inlet(suction) side.... those venturis at the inlet(suction) side are the venturis in the needlewheel skimmers whereby air is drawn in together with water and then undergoes shredding by the needlewheel impeller.... venturis like mazzei or beckett are at the outlet side to enjoy the pressurized jet of water through them

diabolus, precisely that's why i did not specify the BLOCK he stays (no, it's not the red star on the map if that was what you were thinking ) or even the UNIT number of his place. I can't even bother to post or hint his 3 hp numbers(some probably not in use already) as he will just move on to the 4th, 5th or 6th hp number.....well...he can easily change hp numbers.... but it will take more from him to change his block number or even unit number Batman always thinks many steps ahead and like you have said, I don't think we will need to go to the extreme to identify the exact block and unit number Give him just a little breathing space, after all like I have said, once he has cleaned up his act, even if we see him again in this forum, we will welcome him. see sunfish's post after yours? Just an area can be very helpful already. many reefers have found that they are not the only ones when they read the threads. They thought they were the only ones or maybe just a couple of unlucky ones who have dealt with him....but then the list of reefers just went on from... 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8.....to many more I hope this thread will serve enough warning to those who are still in the practice of similar activities or contemplating such activities to nip the idea in their heads. I hope this scarecrow case-study that we have put up is big enough.
