anyway, back to his reef... here is our jeff.... jeff: dun worry cannot see your face clearly..i am sure u won't be stopped in your tracks when u are outside by reefers asking u whether u are selling this or that
-
wah...hear from where one....not reliable lah.... won't give up lah.....even marriage won't stop me....not even when it's time to respond to nation's call for babies....why? because i got reef-trained maid..she can take care for me, even if she leaves...i'll probably interview a new one with the first important question. "Do you like fishes or kept fishes as a pet before" but i seriously see more and more in here giving up for one reason or another....sigh.... but for me now, maintenance of my reef is seriously a bore....more interested in photography now
-
u mean him or me? hehe he not decided yet leh...he wants a super low maintenance routine liao...so i recommend FOWLR... me? no lah....just need to offload some tangs that maybe have to use weighing scale from fish market to weigh
-
this one is blasto mah no meh?
-
faster faster clear... u are my prime candidate to dump some of my obese tangs that have become an eyesore... FOWLR...here u come... i hope
-
-
same lor...now maintaining my reef so routine and boring....so when talk about reefing i can just yawn...but talk photography i get excited... kidding also lah...we are part of the one big DSLR family....no worries
-
oi..suan me ah...lol i targetting the 1Ds MarkII and start a collection of Canon L-lenses...hehe ok lah..bo bian..no skills is no skills..i admit... now u really understand DSLR world very cham hor....torn between long zooms to go zoo take monkeys and your micro/macro to take reef and closeups it's another money draining hobby....as though reefing not draining enough

me lor....played very briefly with Nikon film SLR before and now using Canon 20D....feeling different lor.....now feeling like a mass murderer on a machine gun and just fire away without repercussion lor....last time use film..every shot must think carefully and if no skills like me, end up develop the photos waste money...alot of lousy shots...not a lot of keepers... now digital can immediately review...or rather dun review...just shoot and shoot...go home and slowly review or delete or edit or watever anyway for a comparison between film and digital resolution equivalence... 35mm fast film (ISO 400 and up) = 22.11 megapixel equiv. 35mm medium speed film (ISO 100 to 200) = 54 megapixel equiv. 35mm slow speed film (circa ISO 25-80) = 124.76 megapixel equiv i wonder before the day we die will we see a 124.76mp CCD/CMOS sensor or not...what u think bro cheese? hehe given that we see a general 2mp jump every year.....wa....need more than 50 years hehehe...aiya dun wait...just use film...now we compare hor, film bodies sibei cheap anyway back to ervine...more firefish pics please

very true... i find the layout of the nikons very user-friendly and intuitive.. throw 2 newbies one nikon and the other a canon.... by the time the one holding the nikon is shooting away gleefully...the one holding the canon is still probably sludging through the buttons and menus kidding lah....not so severe...but just like nokia's sms functions are more user-friendly /intuitive compared to others i also agree the current entry level DSLRs can last us for a very long time....coz afterall our photographic usage is not as demanding as the professionals who shoot for magazines and photo journals in fact, the newer models are getting more and more pixels and we end up resizing smaller and smaller for our end use and if we ever want to print super large sizes.....just go back to film SLRs...nothing beats the resolution of film

i believe nowadays with decent DSLRs, regardless the brands, when viewing at websize or up to printed 8R sizes....it would be quite difficult to tell the pictures apart and when those really techy websites compare between the cameras...they are really looking into equipment-aided comparison results which leads to this model having more noise than the other....this model have more dynamic range than the other.... but when it comes down to practical end product for usage....rather hard to tell unless working in a intensive-graphics environment dealing with the images at poster/wall sizes and every pixel counts just like using a D70 and D2H...shooting under the same conditions/lenses...would be hard to tell them apart up to 8R sizes thus personally i believe DSLR sensors have reached a level where lenses have taken over as the more important aspect of getting better shots rather than the body itself ie. i won't be surprised if a D70 with a top of the line Nikkor lens will do better than a D2H user with a crappy 3rd party lens personal opinion lah..hehehe..of coz there are other things like focusing, metering, exposure benefits that separates the pro-bodies from the entry-level bodies...hehe but in a simple macro shot of an apple, a D70 with the top of the line Nikkor micro lens will probably render a better shot than a D2H with a 3rd party crappy macro lens..
-
wah...very nice monkey shot!!! that's why i keep saying the nikon kit lens is very very decent...unlike the 18-55mm canon kit lens which is basically worthless unless stopped to smaller apertures.... yeah....even rumours of d200 to replace the very aged d100.... and now also hear rumours of 300D replacement... because the prices of these models are skydiving recently....D70 body-only can get bought for around $1.3k region (ie. clear stock before the new models are announced in early 05) early adopters of technology always suffer huge losses one....just like plasma TVs...last time dun have at least 10k dun even think of owning one....nowadays half the price can own a decent plasma screen already

never join those clubsnap events even though i was there since 02...hehe... basically just snoop around learn abit here and there... yeah lor...canon change models like new handphone models like that..got good got bad lah....good is that you won't have to wait very long to catch up on what current technology can offer....ie..u always have one of the best updated cameras around....bad thing is that...it hurts your wallet...hehe but once decided on a brand...best is to stick to it...otherwise switch systems can be quite costly...unless some decides to maintain 2 systems....then i nothing to say also hehehe i only shoot family, kids, fishes, vacation... haven't ventured into wedding and the more *serious* events yet

D2X http://jancology.com/blog/archives/2004/12...from_japan.html According to digitalcamera.jp and PC Watch the noise of the Nikon D2X on ISO400 exceeds the Canon EOS-1D mark II. On ISO800 it is still competitive with ISO400 of the Mark II. no wonder Nikon is pricing the D2X way below the Canon 1Ds MarkII.... go go Nikon rumours of D80 is coming....8mp to bia with canon 20d in the 8mp league ...hehe p.s. D2X finally went the CMOS way, breaking away from Nikon's CCD tradition...and guess who made D2X's CMOS sensor? SONY. hehe..but no surprise again... Sony is the manufacturer of the CCD sensors used in previous Nikon digital SLR's

Extension tubes are designed to enable a lens to focus closer than its normal set minimum focusing distance. Getting closer has the effect of magnifying your subject (making it appear larger in the viewfinder and in your pictures). They are exceptionally useful for macro photography, enabling you to convert almost any lens into a macro lens at a fraction of the cost while maintaining its original optical quality. The extension tubes have no optics. They are mounted in between the camera body and lens to create more distance between the lens and film plane. By moving the lens father away from the film or CCD sensor in the camera, the lens is forced to focus much closer than normal. The greater the length of the extension tube, the closer the lens can focus. as for prime lenses...they just mean lenses of fixed focal lengths... means u cannot go tele or wide on such prime lenses... for 18mm prime..it means just fixed at 18mm ....28mm means 28mm and so on... u have to move yourself to capture the subject rather than zooming the lens to capture generally they are sharper than their zoom counterparts....say 18mm prime lenses tend to be sharper and better optically than 18mm on zooms, but of coz u have to put up with the hassle of changing prime lenses when the situation changes and you need a longer range.... for a zoom user...u just zoom to the range u want and continue taking your pics...for a prime user..that means reaching the camera bag for your prime lenses of other focal lengths and switching lenses....thus photographic moments may be lost... but for situations where u dun really zoom much like studio/product photography, you can probably make do with a prime lens of your favourite focal length

yup, u can get the Sigma 70-300mm for about 200plus....quite a number of sellers in the 2nd hand market for this lenses whether in the canon or nikon mount....guess they have moved on to other lenses so if you want to try try....should be a cheap try-out at 200plus...even if u dun like it in the end and want to sell it, you won't be losing much money also anyway, i also recommend using microdrives for cheap storage per GB compared to CF. i used to have worries over its reliability, but i brought 2 microdrives to japan. one hitachi 4GB and one seagate 5GB and both worked well and never lost a picture..... http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...=26532&hl=japan

if u want a super power zoom lens but yet a fraction of what you would pay for the nikkors... here u go http://www.naturescapes.net/092003/hf0903.htm http://www.vividlight.com/articles/413.HTM http://www.lonestardigital.com/Sigma_50-500.htm Those using it, lovingly refer it as the BIGma ....hehe
-
price wise should be cheaper than the nikkors of that zoom range.... i am currently using a sigma 18-125mm lens now and its about $500 bucks....i figure the tamron 18-200mm will be less than 1k i also feel like getting the canon 17-85mm lens with Image stabiliser....just because of the IS...but then i ask myself why i need it since i am doing pretty ok without IS......and this lens cost 1k...many people feel that it's not worth that...at that price range can consider some of the premium L lenses from the canon range already. well...that sums up what we DSLR users face....the pleasant dilemma of choosing lenses but seriously your 18-70mm kit lens is good enough already for most photographic situations...so maybe u can just tahan the itch not to play with lenses and ur wallet should be safe
-
anyway, here is a useful site http://www.photozone.de/bindex2.html u can see performance surveys of your nikkor lenses as well as those from 3rd parties

if u are patient..maybe u can wait for this lens out in spring 2005... 18mm- 200mm on your DSLR it will be a film equivalent field of 28.8mm to 320mm...somemore got macro ability to take insects on your nature trail.... u get the zoom range of wat your friend is using now 70-200, and yet u have the wide end of 18mm (28.8mm) as well....a total one lens solution picture quality we don't know since it's not out yet..but i am sure it should be pretty neat especially when stopped down. http://www.tamron.com/news/35mm/18200di2.asp
