wah..dispar...dun bring me into the picture lah our skimmers no brand stickers one....even if got, like your reef maniac, how to fight with deltec sticker...BBK sticker and so on? Better be quiet and enjoy our tanks and watch the branding loyalty in here ya, riot is right, dun get overwelmed with our equipment debate and loyalty...end up we get lost in the equipment and forgot about what our human touch can and has achieved in our systems

in short, no matter what brand, better to have a skimmer that gives you the performance you want and for most reefers, the desired very low residual nutrient level after skimming. than a brand X,Y,Z skimmer, shimmering in gold, that gives you the "i-have-it-feel-good factor" but still leaves you with residual nutrient problems that you still have to think of ways to solve it I see many falling into this marketing/branding trap. No doubt the brand is good and quality is good, but the amount that they pay can only buy a skimmer from the range that is still underpowered for their own context of use. but if you have a shimmering in gold skimmer that gives you the desired performance, why not...have the best of both worlds, looks great and works great but generally by the time u get this skimmer, it's really burning the pockets especially for those with larger tanks and high load tanks.

talk about german skimmers and no Aquamedic mentioned? Paging for IanJ IanJ IanJ I respect the Turboflotor 5000 twin ....it's twin turbo and standing at 72inches tall forget about the baby...

boss, must call TP to traffic control liao...that road is already narrow as it is -
ahhh... working together sounds alot alot less litigious than copying
-
very likely if H&S copied deltec as you believed, they would long have gotten a letter from deltec considering they are in the same country and wouldn't take too long for legal issues to be settled in terms of such obvious infringement acts. hehe
-
alfa, you wanna genna letter from H&S or sealife ah.... dun say H&S copy deltec unless got proof....such statements can really lead to problems. But from what i have seen, their 2 impellers be it aquabee or eheims are similar
-
wah liew....u seen one and 4 in motion, just interpolate for the inbetweens like alfa's and weisoon's lor....but really a big jump from the dual 902 to the 100X series in terms of chamber... congrats weisoon for a real worthy needlewheel performer. The 100X series are what i would endorse personally
-
you saw your single 1260 foaming, you saw alfa's dual 1260, and also the quad 1260 liao....so 1003 foaming will be between alfa's dual and the quad lor....but sizewise really alot of difference hor but at least weisoon should be able to fit another pump if he wants more ommph next time...hehe good price can cham siong maybe....but no warranty from local agent hor..because bypass official distribution chain one
-
wah..the 1004 not foam enough for you ah if 2nd hand one u want or not weileong
-
can one lah..with all the advanced equipment and some luck, should be able to do well lah...remember post hor .. can't wait to see another beauty
-
congrats alfa.. post leh post leh....10 days liao....still dun share your beauty with us
-
so, enjoy it while it lasts

i remembered enjoying red carpet club facilities during the 3 or 4th month of my tank....then after a while the priviledges were revoked and no more membership does have priviledges...give you red things in your tank without having to pay much for them probably one of those few red things that you dun have to open up your wallet for

air control via a clip at the air hose... water flow control via the vertical pipe at the T joint

ahhh... this point would always appear to mitigate the damage we are doing in comparison to the devastation of natural disasters. But look at it this way: Natural disaster devastation + Hobby-induced devastation take away or reduce the hobby part and overall destruction will be lesser, no doubt. We cannot say that since there are natural disasters that wipe out reef ecosystems, we can close a blind eye on what we humans and hobbyists are doing. We cannot stop the natural phenomenons, but we can surely curb ourselves to a less destructive level than nature. sigh....sad man...i don't want a day where we can only see remaining yellow tangs in public aquariums because no more left in the wild see the way alfa has followed the process of collection, will we come to a point where we are killing more fishes than natural predators or mother nature? So will we give up this hobby now knowing we are doing more bad than good? Or are we still in this hobby to satisfy our personal desires with no regard to what is happening out there. Tough choice man....easier said than done especially for what many of us have put into this hobby. But what about dissuading new entries into this hobby? just kidding...we got no right to say we can continue what we are doing and yet discourage newcomers. spin-off spin-off
-
actually, off topic, but would we agree generally that this hobby does more harm to nature than it does good? like we are wasting additional, unnecessary resources as implied by the author also. ok, we can talk about using this hobby a platform to create public awareness to appreciate nature at sea and so on... but ever wondered how many fishes/corals/organisms have died in the hobby compared to the number that were able to thrive in fewer hands? this can be a spin-off separate discussion....that the idea that we are destroying more by this hobby rather than saving is beginning to sink in...

just like there was a time when there were little access to corals like blastos, pratas, red stuff......that created a vacuum of demand that when the supply emerged, many got sucked in irregardless whether if they really like them or just responding to the herd instinct. Just like the states as you have mentioned had very little access to needlewheels and some started to create more publicity and championing the cause of needlewheels and this created the same vacuum that shifted the weighing scale again. I think it comes down to knowing what you want and stand by it and try not to be moved by herd instinct. Although it's tough i must agree.

better to leave a station without ones luggage (knowing where to go next, what to do next)...than one wondering how come he has followed the crowd onto the platform, into the train, and then got off without knowing why he came to the destination. never mind the luggage

Which was why I mentioned earlier there was some truth in what he was trying to say in the article until he started to sound abit environmental and getting abit extreme in his comments....he said he would be hard pressed to find a reason to use or recommend those USD$600 skimmers or those so called expensive or power hungry skimmers and so on.... Of coz if he had meant that, to use such expensive or power hungry equipment on tanks that do not deserve such an extent, then he is right. Probably to the extent of using equipment that costs and incurs operating costs way beyond the tank proper itself or even using high wattage photon blasting lights to fry the living daylights out of a FOWLR tank...such are the extremes that seem to be his intention. But he phrased in a way that it seemed to broadly trashed expensive things and also high consumption things with no mention of the context under which these equipment are used. Does he mean that everyone, irregardless of whatever circumstances, should not buy a skimmer more than USD600? Does he mean that no one is allowed to run 2 pumps for their skimmers and systems? Does it also imply that he disapproves running high wattage MHs and so on? I think application context was what he missed out although from what bro Rumour has helped me to re-focus, i do understand the overall tone and purpose was to tell people not to get overwelmed by the trendy as well as gadgety part of the hobby and scrimp on other essential things in life that makes up a larger part of life itself other than this hobby. But for those who can afford it, like deepblue feels, this is just an avenue for them to feel good about spending the money to get what they want. Just don't overspend and deprive the more important parts of your life, the money they deserve. (as mentioned in the article) But anyway talking about trends...we can also see trends in skimmers...used to be air stone....then moved on to this...to that....to beckett a while recently....then to needlewheels....u see the shift of discussion even in RC, u know that indeed there is a trend and it is always shifting.

quite true when you think of how much energy we use in illuminating our living rooms with a 32W/40W FL circular tube in comparison to our tanks.... 250W or even 400W MHs.... but sometimes like i said, no choice lah, if we really need to go such lengths to keep what we keep happy, there are few alternatives. can't expect one to use an energy saving FL for keeping sps. if one wants to use 400W MHs or even 1kW MHs, is he a responsible sps keeper who wants his specimens to enjoy as close an illumination as in nature or is he just an irresponsible earthling who is burning fossil fuels at a faster rate? but i would agree for the greater good, we all should just give up reefing
-
that's why i feel that his article holds some truth although he is abit extreme on some comments... u never know if behind his environmental persona in the article, he is actually burning gasoline happily behind his 8litre dodge viper double standards....u see how americans treat middle east affairs and african affairs u know liao... (paiseh, just came home after watching HOTEL RWANDA )

dispar and remember after buy liao, dun post....if not everyone's tank will start looking like each other's remember you told me how come some reefers tanks look so similar to each other?
-
maybe next is leather craze? ask weileong macro a few leathers super super swee and soon leathers will start to sell at sps prices ................now that we mention it... WHAT ARE YOU WAITINGGGGGGGG FOR!!!! faster go buy the leathers dispar, bo bian hor...if i use the green and earth-friendly skimmers that the author advocate, i would have long given up on this hobby...because all my fishes would have died
