lol....chilli red modena 360 mah...my dream car..will ditch my batmobile anytime for it but seriously if u think of the usual pumps/powerheads price as normal cars and then the RD prices....u know you are talking about the ferrari of pumps liao
-
anyway, latest i heard is that manufacturer indicate new shipment of RDs next week....but the units only for those who confirmed + chopped + paid..... buy this pump like buy ferrari like dat...cannot just casually say say and then expect the agent to keep a few brand new ferraris waiting for new owners...so those who test-drive and then tell the sales manager that they confirm will buy when the ferraris are here is just plain-talk. Must confirmed+chopped+paid, then the sales procedure will be initiated. Congrats to another batch of RD owners....your red water-ferraris on the way

the problem is that even if one changes an unreliable pump every year.....it doesnt mitigate the possibility that the new pump get fried or screw up weeks or just months into its use.... even change half yearly......an unreliable pump is an unreliable pump....it can just stop working when u least expect it to... but of coz if one feels that there is not much at stake in his system and he is willing to take the risk...by all means he can choose a wide range of pumps.. but for some like me who have a lot to lose, it is probably easier on the conscience knowing that we have spared no expense or effort in our systems and even if disaster does happen, at least we can go easy on ourselves knowing that we did not risk it all by trying to shortchange a couple of dollars or even hundreds on our system..... money spent in our systems is one thing....the effort that took us from the beginning to present tank state....priceless penny wise-pound foolish?

Rio doesn't have a consistent good track record with its products amongst the broad base of users in the states....but definitely affordable and offers good paper technical specs....but as with most products of its league, tendency to overrate the specs and again intermittent quality problems from this brand. it's a matter of how much risk one is willing to take when he decides to use this pump or that pump and how critical the application is to the user... put it in another way.....if iwakis, eheims, rios, quietones make aircraft engines... would one prefer to fit iwaki, eheim engines or rather fit rios on the aircraft and willing to take a failure risk for a 'supposed equivalent' performance at cheaper price

some threads about QueitOne pumps....and i mean some only.... "What a frigging lie that name is! As Doctor Evil might say, "It's semi-quiet. It's quasi-quiet. It's the margarine of quiet. It's the Diet Coke of Quiet. Just one calorie, not Quiet enough." This thing hums, rattles, and whatever else it can do. I have it plumbed with flex line to reduce vibration, and have the pump sitting on not only an old mousepad, but the gel wrist support from a mouse pad. We're talking like 3-4" of padding here. This thing is still loud. I can't really return it, so it's about to become semi-expensive salt mixer." http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...threadid=496215 "I had 2 they did run very hot though. The external got so hot it melted the case and the submerged one seized up." http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...threadid=485950 bottomline is that it is of inconsistent quality and a risk to take if using it for critical purposes.

hehe..yeah...i definitely sure xim tia to buy brand new RDs....but i think i will still need a couple more RDs for my next tank....so RD owners here who want to sell their RDs next time dun post first..... PM me and we can deal deal cheaper RDs for me.....ANYTIME
-
actually not only patrick lah... i also calculated before that it takes about 3years before the RD will be a cheaper purchase+running option compared to the iwaki (note: model dependent)....but that was comparing the RRP of the RD to HK iwaki price....actually if we compare RRP of RD and local RRP of iwaki from iwaki singapore...then probably about the same or iwaki may cost even more liao.... but i saw the offer from sugi here and couldn't resist....at this resale price, i cannot tahan the lure of the RD imagine cheaper purchase cost (due to resale price), cheaper running cost, cheaper cooling bills (supposed), quiet operation......who in his sane mind can refuse? anyway, i buy liao also chain the dragon in my cage(storeroom), either my friend will be taking it over from me or i will use it for my next tank
-
still got other issues like the cost needed to cool the water of a 200W internal pump leh? no joke man....at least the iwaki is external and got fan to blow and the water path is kept away from the hot motor housing....phew actually i was thinking of finding cooling heat sinks for the iwakis....anyone seen those curved cooling fins around? been quite a while since i went sim lim tower....
-
cool or not....really depends and so far no quantitative figures yet....i was thinking of putting the RD in a toyogo tub and run it for 1 hr internally and externally and see how much the water temp rises...and then compare with the external mx100 running for 1 hr in the same tub just thought of comparing the 2 since both are highly respected in their own right yeah..for pressure uses, use iwaki..... for non-pressure uses, use RD
-
use a cabinet to house the iwakis lor....sure muffle the sound.....if u want, remove the fan yourself and then use quieter fans to blow the iwaki. yeah..the red dragon is very quiet when it comes to this aspect.

oh yah..mods can place this in product reviews if it is more suitable there?

The dragon in comparison eats about half as much.....and yet gives u more flow at zero to minimal head with its mystical powers .....but when u start to whip the dragon to force it to work harder at greater heights and greater resistance.....it may either breathe fire back at you and not work as well...or just drop dead from being overworked so use the correct pumps for the correct purpose.... pressure rated pumps for pressure/demanding applications.... end of review for now

Blue beast is very hungry at zero head loss at full muscle stretch.... consumes up to 240W at our local power supply context of 50Hz.... but if u ask the beast to do alot of work....pushing high high or pushing against great resistance......he no mood to eat the full amount of food as he would usually and will consume less than the max of 240W....
-
the red dragon will render lesser than 6000l/hr at the same 8ft at 2.4384m. And this worsens as the flow undergoes piping work with elbows....tees....and so on....thus for red dragon users....it is best to employ a flow pattern with as little piping restrictions as possible...ie...try to return with as little elbows and other fittings as much as possible to fully harness the red dragon otherwise the fire breathing prowess of the red dragon drops alot. anyway...please do not read off the shape of the 2 graphs at face value..because....both sets of axis are different
-
flow rate of the blue beast...... sugi...as requested by you...straight up 8ft is around 2.4384m ....so agar agar.. the blue beast should render pass 6000l/hr easily...
-
The back of the front cover of the red dragon.... must mention something here....the front cover of the blue beast is secured by bolts that eventually will thread into the metal casing whereas the front cover of the red dragon is secured by bolts that thread into a plastic stand between the front cover/impeller and the motor body..... i reckon that the threads in the plastic stand will not be able to withstand the removing/putting back of bolts during maintenance and so on as compared to the threads in the metal casing of the blue beast.

Bro sugi...patient patient...will come to that..hehe piglet..will do so... The flame throwing spinning impeller of the red dragon.... again the material seems *cheaper* by visual inspection...but well made nonetheless
-
the punching arm of the beast....very nice impeller....again..the pic shows the quality of the fabrication....
-
The guts of the red dragon can even see from photographs that the blue beast material seems more refined in comparison hor....
-
hehehe...thanks hamann the internals of MX100.. to compare the 2 personally....the impeller housing of the blue beast seems more refined and well fabricated compared to the red dragon.....
-
exterior of red dragon......black plastic housing which definitely doesn't look as indestructible as the blue beast but can be used for submersible purposes...no rusting problems here.. weighs 4.6kg....about 1/2 of the blue beast..
-
Let's recap the exterior of the blue beast... very very solid and heavy outing metal casing....weighs probably just under 10kg.... casing is surprisingly quite resistant to rust even after few months of use compared to a resun md55 i used in the past which showed signs of rust.
