not too sure about the prices of shrimps these days some pics of my tank in pitch darkness, with NIGHTSHOT
-
haha..good one boss
-
yeah lor...maybe coincidental that the hot spell happened recently watever the case, good luck for the clam lovers in here
-
tat's something i know now... i guess those who want cleaner shrimps can also consider blood shrimps now... even though blood shrimps have been generally known to be slightly more shy compared to cleaner shrimps
-
i wonder why some bros here are reporting sudden clam deaths that seem to coincide with the hot spell recently... maybe the temp fluctuations even with a chiller was too much for some of the fussier clams? just a thought...
-
haha..oooops... i dun really understand the whole equation. just post to help further confuse a confusing topic

i feel that air flow and water flowrates of skimmers can definitely be determined with good flow meters in a lab... but like robe says, does the absolute amount means everything? when a skimmer pulls the most water and air, does it automatically becomes the best skimmer? these are quantifiable properties....how about the qualitative properties? properties that cannot be represented in numbers easily? how well the mixing occurs....i dun think we cannot put a number to it easily... i am sure alot of reefers here have come across this equation in a website... is this equation useful?
-
but i also have german skimmate (H&S) how? i am sitting on the fence between the 2 giant powers ....seeing ballistic missles shooting above me......ahhhhhh *run away to hide*

aiyo.... like world war ah.. Americans (becketts) vs Germans (needlewheels) let me offer my humble american pie.....mudpie (aquaC)

very nice leh....the trigger....put in trigger queen's tank lah...or in the new 6ft FOWLR dun risk all your nice corals... i never take chances with wat i put in my tank....scared put inside, cannot catch it out..hehe

Medication for ICH, Kent Marine Rx.P
roidan replied to jd_n's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
in a reef tank, i always hold the belief tat no medicine is the best medicine.. but if it's a fish only tank...then by all means make it a chemistry lab lesson..go ahead and dose. -
cant help as i dunno your system ..or spend day and night with your system.. can be many reasons.... maybe it was damaged during harvesting and it was dying a slow death... in that case it's not your tank's problem... can be predators in the tank...can be parameters....can be it doesn't like the position so much so that it slowly refuse to open the mantle and die...many many reasons...dunno where to start..and dunno which is the real reason i cannot pinpoint any reasons no matter how much or how little i know about clams..hehe
-
i always thought the general rule is tat things dissolve easier in hot fluids... dissolve kalk in cold water easier to dissolve than in hot water ah wah...maybe this is something new that i dunno

din really notice that the small sargussum has grown to be so big... maybe i should pluck it out perched right on top of my live rocks along the water surface

Possible cure for ICH using Interceptor?
roidan replied to AlfaRomeo's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
but even if it does kill ich, i dun think we should use it in a reef tank, fish only tanks should be ok though... coz it will indiscriminately kill the good stuff in the tank along with the ich....may end up killing more good than bad in the tank and end up nuking the tank..... just like copper...proven to kill ich...but will kill all invertebrates and even microlife in a reef tank... it's hard to find a chemical that can target kill a certain organism without incurring collateral damage -
haha....er...share the workload lah... the new saltwater was in the bathroom...i was in charge of draining the sump and the tank.... my maid in charge of going to the bathroom and getting the new saltwater and pouring into the sump....everytime the sump water level goes high, i turn on the return pump and pump water to the tank.... a few trips...and all is done.... now, i wonder, why am i so lazy for the past half year haha..okok..dun scold me..i have indeed done my first water change
-
u can thank my 2 skimmers to export waste mud out of the system before they break down into nitrates and other substances.... i got my inspiration from a bro here who never changes water for his sps reef for more than a year...yet no algae problems, no sps problems...but of coz his fishload is much much less than mine but better be safe than sorry lah...maybe when i upgrade my skimmers, really can push for one year.... for now, better dun push my good fortune too far, to stock so much and so fast is nothing short of a small miracle like i said, initially wanted to wait till one year then change water as nothing seems to be out of whack in the system...but something tells me not to be complacent although nothing is wrong, changing some water wun hurt also... maybe my fish sense is at work here, no complicated IKS system to manage my reef...only RKS (roidan kontrol system) then i can move on to 2ft sps cube....no fish feedings...no worries about nutrient levels....400W MH of light....hmmm....i can envision the colours of my future sps reef liao *building air castles again*

i think there are slight variations in water quality across the island depending where the reservoir is tapped from.... even PH of tapwater differs from place to place...i know my tapwater ph is around 8.7 to 8.8 straight off the tap...whereas dispar's tapwater ph off the tap is around 8.0.. i am not sure why the ph difference...but there will be slight variations... but at least i can say newater is not a problem for sensitve marine invertebrates, let alone for our drinking... 3 cheers for newater...hehe
-
even my top up water is straight from the tap add some dechlorinator to get rid of chlorine and chloramine only.... if newater has substance that is not suitable for marine, then after about half a year of non water change and continual daily top ups straight from the tap, i think alot of things would have died already... so i can safely say that in my opinion, newater is safe...at least water supply to my sengkang unit is safe....and i dun have any proper RO/DI equipment so those who wanna blame newater for problems in their tanks, i think better look elsewhere for other factors.....dun blame newater dun even use my DI chamber for daily topups....first time use DI chamber last night to store a whole large toyogo tub of water, this morning mix salt and let it settle down and afternoon just now did the water change
-
not distilled...just de-ionised water yeah AP, since december set up tank till now, never change water till today... actually also dun wanna change water, but scared got unknown parameters out of whack, so better change... actually i wanted to change water at the one year mark one...haha..but never mind lah...every half a year change water, not so tiring also
-
just so called deionized water after a DI chamber
