  1. but hor..even if it is very fuel efficient as claimed or not in reality... the price may put off some others who have other priorities, like boot space, cabin space, ride comfort....for all these features, i think the rx8 fail miserably..hehe for that price, there are many other choices but road tax wise, i think it can definitely be the lowest or one of the lowest for a sporty car, no debate on that
  2. u are right tanzy... get from the dealer better... nowadays the parallel importers dun really offer significant money savings..hehe anyway, no matter what car you chose... having a car offers more convenience than none... have fun with your new ride
  3. which was why i quite shocked with the fuel consumption by the papers also... here are a few sites with info on its fuel consumption..also got differences in the numbers published....hehe http://www.science2life.org/wertingen/moto...glisch/rx8.html http://www.edmunds.com/new/2004/mazda/rx8/...&mktid=ik246311 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://home.earthlink.net/~rotaryeng/Increadable-rotary2.txt FUEL CONSUMPTION There is a mis-perception in the world that the rotary engine is thirsty. This was very true in the early days. Particularly in automobiles primarily used in the city. Critics pointed at the surface to volume ratio of the combustion chamber as the main culprit. The shape of the combustion chamber has advantages and disadvantages. Since the combustion chamber actually rotates the heat is dissipated over a very large surface area. This allows extremely high HP per cubic inch of engine displacement with out melting the rotor housings. The fuel consumption of a rotary expressed in Brake Specific Fuels Consumption or BSFC for short is now very close to a typical air cooled air craft engine particularly at the high power levels needed in air craft engines. The engine is steadily being improved in this regard. First and foremost the Mazda rotary will happily run on auto fuel which is half the cost of aviation fuel. Aircraft owners flying rotary engines plan their cross country trips around airports that sell auto fuel. Lycoming does not recommend auto fuel in their engines. What about fuel consumption and range? The Mazda will happily run 200 degrees lean of peak with no worry about burning an exhaust valve. There are none of course! Tracy Crook believes the reason it runs so well when leaned out is because the wankel is naturally stratified charge. What that means is the fuel droplets or fuel vapor is separated from the main air charge and is thrown outwards toward the spark plugs by centrifugal force due to the rotating combustion chamber. The intake charge rotates around the center of the engine just inside the rotor housing. This concentration of rich mixture makes it much easier for the spark plugs to ignite the overall lean mixture. At this very lean setting the EGT has dropped down into the piston engine range and the engine is only slightly less economical than an air cooled piston engine. Tracy Crook estimates the pounds of fuel burned per hour for each HP generated is 0.47 while an air cooled piston engine is about 0.45. If you run the engine at peak power full rich it will burn 0.65 BSFC just like an air cooled piston aircraft engine under the same conditions. The new Mazda RX8 side exhaust port engine is reported to be much more economical. Any residual un-burned fuel is re-circulated to the next combustion cycle. The exhaust port timing is also modified in the RX8 engine to allow a longer expansion cycle recovering more energy from the fuel. The RX8 engine has much lower exhaust temperature confirming the lower fuel consumption. Another advantage of the Mazda wankel is it is ideally suited to turbo compounding which can result in a further drop of fuel consumption of 20%. this would result in an automatic 20% increase in range with the same fuel load. HP is also increased by 20% with no increase in the cooling system requirements. The reason the Mazda wankel is ideal for turbo compounding is it has no failure prone exhaust valves to break up and destroy the exhaust blow down turbine on their way out the exhaust pipe. This was a common problem with turbo compounded piston engines used in the 50's.
  4. i support croatia also... i liked them since davor suker days....but english have a large fan following to urge them on..hehe
  5. hope you bought the rx8, so that maybe some of us here have the chance to sit in it for a while to hear the purr of the rotary engine
  6. my onboard display reads around 8.8litres/ 100km .. may not be accurate though on a full tank.....my max range is about 590plus - 600km shown on the display of coz alot of city driving will increase the consumption and reduce the range
  7. unique back passenger door opening reason why i see people who can afford it shun away from it is coz of its brand and japanese parentage. if it was born under the marques of BMW or Porsche.....sure snapped up...but the price may be double...lol
  8. looks like a 2 seater yet seats 4
  9. in this list, i like the rx8... practical reasons i will state first... it is 1.3litres...meaning you pay less road tax.... and also better fuel consumption..you will be surprised that it's fuel economy can push 1litre for 15km and more....i read it recently actually come to think of it, not surprising, for a little tap on the accelerator, you already get so much torque to pull you away from the rest, so no need to floor it much and burn more fuel...this is a very plus point. huge perfomance with less fuel burnt 0-100km/h 7.1sec Max. Output 231ps @ 8200rpm Max. Torque 211Nm @ 5500rpm
  10. for me..it's between evo8 and fairlady... fairlady the name abit ....but looks sleek... evo8...ever so masculine
  11. yeah man.... i think really must get some common hobbies...otherwise will drift apart...at least got kids still ok....diedie also can have the kids interests as centre of the marriage... okok..i go have dinner liao...have fun
  12. haha.... aiya...nowadays married life so financially draining.. last time police wear shorts...as long one is a graduate...can live comfortably already.. nowadays, even both husband and wife graduates, also must slog like hell...i see my married friends around working so hard....dunno envy them or sayang them but apparently those married in here are doing ok....still got time and money to involve in reefing..hehe
  13. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY anyway got go lfs or not... remember see lieutenant tang must inform vanessa
  14. yeah lor.... single but not available only coz my gal is reading this
  15. tat's a good one, vanessa i am sure you got integrity not to go snatch your gfs's bfs one lah anyway you dun need to snatch their bfs lah..you got your own beau wat
  16. no lah...last time you told me they stay in the east mah...so just wondering how come some time never see them until today BRO sailfin appeared lor...tot they busy watching soccer also..hehe where got investigate....dun be sensitive lah....you not guilty of anything mah, so no need to feel i investigate ..i just casually asking where they stay coz i think they go to your lfs across the street pretty often so i thought they stay tampines also oh...one stay simei one in bedok reservoir ah...no wonder they go your lfs quite often...now i understand
  17. dun worry bro deepblue, sis AP very good with multiple stuff, sure can differentiate and identify them apart and even give each a name
  18. oh...so both are males ah...okok. then i wun get mixed up...hehe all 3 of you, AP, storm and sailfin stay in tampines one hor... they seldom appear nowadays, maybe also busy watching soccer ah
  19. no need to post that pic lah..i think it left a lasting impression on some already ryz is right in a way, if the skimmers are all built the same size, then no one can say which skimmer is efficient or better or not until a test is done...but the fact is that they are not the same size.... if weipro, macro, rsb, h&S, beckett are used in a 2ft tank....maybe there will not be too drastic a difference between performance between them... but if they are used on larger systems...you will see some methods pulling faster away from other... eg...just like a scooter can beat a car in the first few metres of the traffic lights...but as the distance covered is longer, it is easy to see why the car will outpace the scooter so if someone die die want to insist a scooter is faster than a car....we can agree on the context of the first few metres of the race... but logic/knowlege tells us that the car is generally faster than a scooter anyway, like some earlier said...even with no skimmers can keep a great system... skimmers are just one part of the modern equipment to aid reefers in getting a higher success rate and make the learning curve less steep
  20. anyway, is bro sailfin right? not sis sailfin hor... coz sometimes i get mixed up reading sailfin's posts... dunno to address sailfin as bro or sis
  21. yeah....bro seahorse and his weipro driven sps system, very nice also
  22. LISBON (Reuters) - Italy face direct elimination from Euro 2004 whatever the result of their last match if Scandinavian rivals Denmark and Sweden play out a high-scoring draw of 2-2 or more in their final group game. If that happens, Sweden's late equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw with Italy on Thursday in Porto would have cost the Italians very dear indeed. The situation in Group C is complicated to say the least. At present Sweden and Denmark head the group with four points from two matches and Italy follow with two after drawing both of their games against the Scandinavians. Bulgaria, who lost to both, are already eliminated. If Italy beat Bulgaria, as expected, in Guimaraes on Tuesday and Sweden and Denmark draw the same day in Porto, all three would finish with five points. Under tournament rules, the results of the three teams against each other would then count -- so the matches against Bulgaria would not be taken into immediate consideration. This would leave all three teams on two points from the draws with each other. In such a case, the teams with the highest number of goals would then go through. Sweden would by now be certain to qualify because they had scored more goals against Italy in the 1-1 draw than Denmark did in their 0-0 tie. Italy's goals total would stay on one. If the Denmark- Sweden game finished 2-2, Denmark would have two goals for and Sweden three, both more than Italy. The same would apply with any higher scoring draw. If the match finished 0-0, Denmark would be eliminated as they would have no goals. But it gets really complicated with a 1-1 draw. Sweden would top the group with two goals and Italy and Denmark finish level with one. At this point the team with the best result against Bulgaria would qualify. The Danes beat Bulgaria 2-0 so Italy would have to do better in their last game. Can Italy rely on the Nordic teams not to make an unofficial pact to go for a 2-2 draw? Luckily for them, Scandinavians are renowned for their honesty. Of course, if Italy fail to beat Bulgaria, they would be eliminated anyway. On the other hand, if Sweden beat Denmark or vice versa, any win against Bulgaria would see Italy through.
  23. Soccernet : The draw sets up a possible three-way tie at the top of the group. Sweden and Denmark both have four points and play each other in their final game in Porto next Tuesday. If they draw they will both finish with five points, the same number Italy will have if they beat already-eliminated Bulgaria, as expected, in their final match in Guimaraes. If that happens the determining factor will be the number of goals Sweden and Denmark get. If the Scandinavian rivals play out a high-scoring draw of 2-2 or more Italy will be out. The Italians only have themselves to blame for allowing such a situation to develop. They were outstanding against the Swedes for long periods, playing brilliantly in defence, midfield and attack, and should have been more than one goal ahead by the time Sweden equalised. Their only real failure was in front of goal - although Swedish goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson, who was on Juventus's books as a youngster, had an inspired match.
