  1. nicest DIY i've ever seen.
  2. I believe most skimmer designs are around the same. BK, ASM, Euroreef, all look similar to me. Beckett skimmers too.
  3. In my opinion, it is always better to isolate one pump for one beckett injector. if one pump fails, the beckett injector will still be working.
  4. As mentioned, everything can be customised.
  5. Zorden: everything can be customised upon request. Regards Ocean Werx
  6. Thanks guys!! We will try to improve our workmanship.
  7. Hi all, Actually PVC welding is not the most secure form of joints for acrylic. It is not actually recommended by welding companies. But we use it as a last round of defence. For our joints, there is more than just PVC welding, trade secret. All Ocean Werx product comes with one year warranty. Just send in the warranty card and we will validate the warranty. 8. Acidjazz, you are RIGHT!! running two sets of single beckett skimmer is definitely better than one set of dual beckett. (if all the skimmers are of the same size). However, not many pple have the space like Coral Farm. Most pple find a 4ft skimmer already an eyesore, needless to say about TWO 4ft skimmers. Blueheaven, beckett skimmers are one of the most reliable protein skimmers. but as you've mentioned, skimmer 10%, husbandry 90%. All skimmers (deltec, h&s, beckett, blah blah blah), as powerful as they may seem, it is still very important that the user / reefer maintain good husbandry.
  9. Calciumreef, Not really true, its actually quite easy to clean. just run a cloth through the downpipes and it will be done. of cos, we are not talking bout coraline algae. that's gonna be a big headache.
  10. where did you buy the pump from? if you got it from Bio Ocean, you can come anytime for replacement.
  11. Not too sure if you are refering to us. Aquarama Fluidised Reactor We still have some in our shop.
  12. for rio 20hf, 32inches height is too tall. in fact, even for a 2ft tall, it is "just ok". if possible, we will still recommend a stronger pump like quietone 4000 high head. and at 32inches height, the skimmer most likely have to be installed out-sump. the head loss will be too much for the rio 20HF. 13. The deltec auto-cleaner is to clean the inside of the riser neck so that the "scum" will be removed. the "scum" has negative effect of the skimming. too much "scum" and the foam will not be able to push up into the collection cut.
  14. Zorden, it takes hours, perhaps days for skimmate to dry up and thicken. you are right to say that the new skimmate will mix with the old ones. as i've mentioned before, only minimal will retreat back into the tank. most of the "scum" will remain at the top layer of the foaming. unless the collection cup is filled up and left to run for months, there shouldn't be significant effect on the tank parameters. I cannot calculate the amount of concentration of old skimmate and new skimmate, but from our understanding, it shouldn't differ much. I cannot confirm the exact amount of skimmate that will retard back into the tank. But I CAN assure that the tank condition will not be any worse than if the skimmer is not skimming. We have already concluded that our beckett skimmers can be used in-conjunction with a auto-shut-off waste collector. I believe most who had shown interest in this thread do. When used together with a waste collector, the skimmer WILL NOT overflow. If the skimmer is left running (but not skimming) for weeks without anyone attending to it, the tank parameter will DEFINITELY worsen. Same thing applies for our skimmers, whereby our collectio cup is not air tight, tank condition will also worsen if left unattended for weeks. End of the day, even if one has the most expensive, sophisticated equipments, a reef tank might not survive if the owner practises ill-husbandry. It is good husbandry that decides the success / survivability of a good reef tank. We strongly advise that skimmers should be cleaned at least once a week. Regards Ocean Werx
