I used a Euro before and now using a H & S. There are a few distinct difference. Firstly, the ER skimmer behaviour is constant not like H & S - sometimes goes crazy like doing top up of fresh water.. as the salinity deviate slightly... the skimming suddenly becomes haywire .... but this didn't happen on ER ..- not sure whether others experience it. Secondly, the H & S is more trouble-some - got to tune correctly otherwise you skim only tea color but this is a plus point in a sense that ER cannot be tune so easily so if you are not getting enough skimmate then you have to do some kind of extension to the raiser tubing so that you get more skimmate. Thirdly, H & S more maintenance free becasue ER need to clear the salts in the venturi tube maybe like once in a week otherwise the performance drop whereas H & S do not have this problem. Last by not least, I find the quality coming out from a ER much more thicker compared to a H & S - though I get dark skimmate but the skimmate from a ER is like a beckett - really thick and dry. My view might be subjective as I use a ES6-1 model ((400 lit )and now a H & S (850lit model) This are some of my personal encounter - it is always good to listen to others' xperience as this is an expensive hobby. My 2 cents

Rav-65 pm you. Basically the whole thing control by float switch just like your normal tubby using relay swtiches ... but instead of turning on a pump it turn on the solenoid which activate the onset of the water into the RO unit - the clean water pushes out to the tank and the waste water to my washing machine. The failsafe is of course to have 2 float switch instead one goes out you still have one more and the solenoid is a "normally turn off kind" so unless there is a current otherwise it will be turn off otherwise.. if you are kiasu you can incorporate more device like the salinity .... but this is beyond me ..

I am looking forward to change the Temp controller for this chiller - any idea where I could get a replacement - dont mind any other brand ? Can the all popular - FOX Controller S1004 be used - I notice the teco temp controller have a max current of 8 A. Any idea anybody ? I think I post in the wrong section ... can the moderator help to move it to marine equipment.

Weileong is right ... The equipment comes with a TDS meter - so just measure the output ... it should read 0 otherwise it need to change the cartridge. Anyway I bought 3 years supply and the cost is relatively cheap.

My most value-added equipment is my Aquasafe RO-DI unit. I had it connected directly to my tank control by a solenoid directly to the house water piping via a 2 x float switch. I don't carry water around topping up my tank. Previously I was like doing that for like everyweek which i find it draining to do all this chores. The waste water goes to my washing machine - so i dont waste any. My wife uses the washing machine more than I topup my tank.

Dust to Debris's Coralline Growth Formulae

I am beginning to hate coraline aglae --- don't understand why you guys are going head over heed. Even my skimmer body is covered with coralline without direct lighting but with normal daylight as my sump is in my balcony area (shaded of course). You will come to this stage when you will how to stop it from growing The best is to cover all the rocks with coral.. so that you are spending every inch of your ligthing on your coral but not coralline aglae. no offense just my perception. -
Nice flash But your tank pics too small leh ... bigger would be more impressive.

What do you intend to keep ? The reason I am asking is if it is a all fish with live rock tank - you can actually scape it higher - it should looks much better.

PM You.

Gorgeous view ! Your sps might not be getting enough lighting maybe you would like to place it higher up on the rock work.

Low light area turning white

I encountered one of my colony STN at the base - due to too strong current flow after which I moved it to another spot and I observed the STN progress. It didnt get any better ... i have to use the super glue and now it is doing fine. I think it should be due to your low dKH. 1) Up your dKH and observed any sign of recovery. 2) If after 2 to 3 days still no improvement - use the superglue methods.. it will get worse if you dont do anything. My 2 cents. -
If you have only LPS it is ok - it doesn't even disturb my clam and other soft coral. But if you have sps - it nibs on the polyp once in a while so not advisable.

Have you read this one ? A little girl: was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher: said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small. The little girl: stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Irritated, the teacher: reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible. The little girl: said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah". The teacher: asked, " What if Jonah went to hell?" The little girl: replied, "Then you ask him". A Kindergarten teacher: was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's work. As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was. The girl: replied, "I'm drawing God." The teacher: paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like." Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl: replied, "They will in a minute." A Sunday school teacher: was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honor" thy Father and thy Mother, she asked, "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?" Without missing a beat one little boy: (the oldest of a family) answered, "Thou shall not kill." One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head. She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, "Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?" Her mother replied, "Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white." The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, "Momma, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?" The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture. "Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grown up and say, 'There's Jennifer, she's a lawyer,' or 'That's Michael, He's a doctor.' A small voice at the back of the room rang out, "And there's the teacher, She's dead." A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, she said, "Now, class, if I stood on my head, the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I would turn red in the face.." "Yes," the class said. "Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position the blood doesn't run into my feet?" A little fellow shouted, "Cause your feet ain't empty." The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray: "Take only ONE. God is watching." Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples. Enjoy reading.

Help! thin white worms seen crawling on tank.
surfedelic replied to blur's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
they are white worms - not copepod. Copepod looks more like a small insects.
