How to remove the CHlorine from tap water
surfedelic replied to iori_del's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
You can get RO from Sealife .. they sell KENT Marine products. They go by how much water they can produce in a hour. eg. 100 GPH meaning 100 gallon per hour. Or you can order one from the net. Mime is from Aquasafe 100 GPD - 6 stage RO unit. Hope it helps. -
DangDut quite funny too bad don't understand malay .... Looks like singapore idol no fight if going for talent ... that all time favorite girl sound like chaka Khan

Look What I Just Bought to Control Bristle Worms
surfedelic replied to Gouldian's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
In fact if you check on the Pseudochromis species - they all eat bristleworms .... But I am not sure really unless those which are bigger sized ones. Last night - i saw my Fridmani Pseudochromis sticking out of a crack with a bristleworm beside it. Will observe further whether they are neighbour or enemy -
This thread is very informative - didn't know there is so many war stories behind the standards. Normally just plug and play ..... microsoft mentality Thanks Weisoon for the enlightenment.

2 bps - I think you could try increasing your CO2 but with caution by measuring the effluent. Curently my Cal reactor is about 1.5 bps and it is maintianing the KH at 11 and Cal at 465 ppm (measured) this morning. Some more my tank size is only 2 x 2 ft x 15". But my device is a dual chamber which collect the excess CO2 at the top whereas the efluent is taken from the bottom so no issue for me, the most just released the excess CO2 from the top. For yours, i am not sure if effluent taken from the top - got to be careful by monitoring the PH. My 2 cents worth.

Yes - there is a temp sensor which comes together with it.

Things to avoid for SPS tank
surfedelic replied to minsmarine's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
Any particular reasons why we should avoid long spines Urchin ? All along I thought it is good to have long spines urchin to clear up those green and coraline algae. I have a short spine urchin though. -

There is where you need connections ... nowsaday job searching is very different - you cannot look at the papers and sent tons of resume ... you are not going to get the job bro ... if you can then you are very lucky ...just like you said indian and china coming to compete. I have a friend working in microsoft looking to hire a APO consultant. He is so afraid to publish he advertisement nowsaday - becasue he receive tons and tons of resume ranging from 20 year old to 55 year old .... at the end he passed the job to the head hunter to select ... So you are competing only with foriegn talent you are also competing with the lao qiao from locals ... I was too retrenched mid of last year... but thank god i got a job a month later due to my customer based otherwise I got to sell backside .... even sell backside also got china girls competing.... -
Do we need higher education to become rich ?
surfedelic replied to minsmarine's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I think singaporean are learning to be very cautious in every thing ......no right or wrong ... The whole idea of riches and Education is controversial .... Time have changed ... we are no longer in the colonial days where all you need is education ..... .. education only equipped us with the skill and know how .... but once you are up there in the corporate ladder .....another factor is at play - Connections ... That's when usu the non-educated have load of time socialing I guess ... -
Do we need higher education to become rich ?
surfedelic replied to minsmarine's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I can't agree any better with you on this. I have the same mentality But I do also agree that this mentality is hurting the spirit of entreprenuership. Singaporean are very comfortable ...... with a job .. can afford cars ... houses ...some more big marine reef ...... what the heck do i want to get out there and earn more money ..... -- we run the risk of losing everything if we run a business just to get a slightly better life ....or how many actually make it like Sim Wong Hoo from creative or Wong Ngit Liong of Venture Corp...so at the end nobody venture out..... Maybe at the end of day .... who cares about entrepreurship - it is quality lives that we are after not quantity ... -
i have the same problem with some aglae growing but the problem disappear after i maintain my Cal and KH ....at 420 - 460 and 12 dKH . the monti starts turning to a brighter orange ... And also your flow -it matters alot. Hope it helps.

Do we need higher education to become rich ?

In the UK uni that I studied - the first chart they shows is a chart ploting the wealth against Education.... and ... it is the same even in a foreign land.... the wealthy ones are the ones with little or no education ... everybody was dumbfounded when they show the chart --- not sure whether everybody is thinking of packing their bags .. I once met the CEO whose company build the benjamin shears bridge ... get to know him thru a egypt tour ... this chinese old man about age 60 to 70 speaks and read fluent japanese and studied in Tokyo University and drive a car with car plate No. 3 told me about 90 % of what he studied he has returned back to the school .... so the morale of the story ..... Stay away from that bridge ..... sorry I meant stay away from too much educations -

Your xplanation sounds logical for the first part ... but for the mating part ... Ur hmm .... maybe we should have blue lights in our room for those trying to have kids (breaking away from the tradition of red light ) -
I am not quite sure if it is banned but according to what I know they are no longer coming in multiple petals on a single rock ..... maybe you could still get isolated petals here and there (according to a LFS owner)
-
Actually it depends how many petals you are getting. I saw some on the net 12 US dollars per petal .....for 6 to 7 petals it is about 79 US and those with 13 - 15 petals they cost about 139 US ... so you can actually buy the the singular ones but I agree they are expensive .. I have a friend currently in the states now - he is sort of a marine freak as well ... so might be thinking to ask him if he is interested to get it.
-
Any Idea whether they are under the CITES or not ? Sorry

Will night light help to grow SPS
surfedelic replied to minsmarine's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
I think with moonlight or night light you can see all your sps coral in actions. I feed my coral in the night as I observed that the polyp open full blast in the night - never see before in the day...... I figure out the reason is that in the day time we blast our coral with lights thus they are already getting food in the form of lights but in the night there is no light or only moonlight .... thus they have sort of compensate by opening up the polyp to grab food from the water column ... Any body care to shed a light ... -
