  1. Red seriatopora hystrix - had it since Mar 2012 when it came to my tank as a brown-pink piece due to shipping stress. It's since morphed into a nice red colour.
  2. Wah taikor, a big congratulations to you!!!!!!! I need to visit your home and see your tank soon!!!!!! (and bring my frag cutter and plastic bag along too muahahhaahahah!!!!)
  3. Got it identified at chuisui.com the malaysian reef forum - it's an acropora solitaryensis. I have fragged it into 2 pieces and placed epoxied it the right way i.e. horizontally.
  4. Hello fellow SPS lovers, Is this an an acropora efflorescens? Thanks!
  5. Thanks. Well, not all have shown great improvement though. I have a few colonies that have exhibited improvement but on a slooooww basis and a couple that refuse to be display anything except dull, washed-out colours. Surprisingly, some of the Fiji SPS corals (having a reputation for being sensitive and delicate) have kept their colours and grown well e.g. my purple and green samoensis, pink tipped sarmentosa, pink pocci, red hystrix, and to a certain extent the a.valida which I have posted a pic of above. I keep my alk and calcium levels as stable as I can with weekly checks and ensuring good random water flow and adequate lighting - the basics. In addition, I utilize a combination of Fauna Marin and Prodibio supplements to keep the water as clean as I can.
  6. Thanks! I hope the residual brown colouration in this piece will eventually go away. The growth has been fairly good with visible encrustation and longer tips evident if I don't look at it for a couple of days.
  7. A glance at my centrepiece (Fiji A.valida)
  8. Yes and new nubes have appeared
  9. I recently acquired this Strawberry Shortcake acro frag and it's been slowly regaining its pink and green colours.
  10. Been dosing Fauna Marin Powertrace elements (1-4) and here are the results: In April 2012 Today
  11. Just a quick shot in Blueplus lighting before bedtime.
  12. I am not the best in species identification either but here's my take: 3) Humilis 5) Sarmentosa 8) Hyacinthus 9) Nobilis? 10) Sameonsis 12) Poccilopora I have experience keeping the above except for a.nobilis. The humilis, hyacinthus and sameonsis need the most attention when it comes to light, random water flow and stable water parameters. A.sarmentosa is slightly easier and lastly the pocci is the least demanding of the lot.
  13. That is absolutely correct. Of course, noting for signs of recession and stress such as basal STNing is also a must when selecting such delicate animals. Having said that, I picked a tricolour valida and a jade green sameonsis from the WS shipment before the last one in March 2012 and they didn't arrive in the best of conditions due to a 24 hour delay in the flight schedule. As of today, they are recovering from shipping trauma where they had a browned out episode and now they are growing and colouring up. Lots of TLC needed for them
  14. Hello, May I ask which Walt Smith SPS species did you select? Some species can and do thrive in captive reef systems and others will turn brown and eventually STN and die. From my experience, Fiji s.hystrix, a.sameonsis, stylo, porites are the easier ones to keep colour and have growth. The tabling types (e.g. a.hyacinthus), microclados, tricolour validas, thick branch types (e.g. a.gemmifera, a.monticulosa) are very challenging to maintain colour and have decent growth unless your system water is very clean and flow is very strong and random. Naturally, stability, lighting etc is also a must.
  15. Dah senyap leh. Maaf yah, aku bukan melayu
  16. Fiji acropora microclados - was a little bleached when I got it a month ago but it has recovered somewhat
  17. Fiji purple sameonsis - had it since Dec 24 2011 and fortunately, still growing and doing well.
  18. Fiji green sameonsis - kept it since Mar 24 2012
  19. Recent addition: Blue tipped valida maricultured colony
  20. Updates: Red staghorn frag from Joe_P
