  1. My definition of ULNS is a reading of 0.03 or less using a phosphate Hanna checker. Nowadays, I use visual cues such as signs of SPS tissue darkening and the rate of algae growth on my tank walls to watch for any elevations of PO4 levels. There is no hard evidence that explains why such sps coral tips are stripped of tissue when dkh levels are above 8.0 in a very low nutrient tank but they do happen often enough based on my and others' anecdotal experiences. The STN occurs slowly but gradually accelerates if corrective actions are not taken in a timely manner. My suggestion is to reduce your dkh levels by 0.5 daily until you reach a level below 8.0 and maintain it at that level while observing for any positive or negative effects.
  2. Yes, it is an acronym for ultra low nutrient system. I keep my tank's level at 7.5.
  3. The most important thing to remember for kh values is to keep it at a stable level with minimal fluctuations. Naturally, this value will be where your sps corals are comfortable with. For ULNS tanks with bacterial systems, keep dkh values below 8 to avoid burnt coral tips.
  4. That's THE holy grail of leather corals. I think you have to wait for another couple of months for Iwarna to bring in a shipment from Fiji. Check with them.
  5. I use this lens for my macro shots with a Nikon D300 body - reasonably priced and good. AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR (3.0x) http://www.nikon.com...ntLink=gp54h9si If you have a big budget, I strongly recommend this lens - the best Nikkor lens I have ever tried for macro photography. 6. You need to define what high grade SPS means to us.
  7. My suggestion (and this may be contrary to popular opinion) is to start a tank off with DEAD rocks and 100% RO/DI water. This will tremendously cut down on the number of algae and pest issues one would have to deal with going forward.
  8. Believe it or not, I did mean for my tank to have a minimalist look initially! However, being the CORAHOLIC that I am (worse than drugs, booze or tobacco), I could not resist the lure of pretty sticks. No thanks to the temptations yielded by the likes of Dr Cedric Ang, Joe_P and other reefers with frags for sale. Also, the shipments brought in by Iwarna, Golden Octopus and Pinnacle were too good to resist resulting in a depleted banking account  What I have done is draw the line in NOT putting any corals that touches the left, right and front sides of my tank leaving empty space there to maximize flow. However, the growth of some of my colonies in the past 6 months has necessited some minor re-arrangements and a teeny bit of fragging.
  9. Yes, I placed it upright to minimize areas where it might be shaded by its own branches or other corals. Slanted placement is good is if stick or epoxy your SPS corals at the edge of your rockwork with no obstruction around them.
  10. haha soon I hope when trimming is needed Thanks for the praise
  11. Outstanding reef and even better when viewed in person. Beautiful purple montipora digitata too - got myself a frag of it
  12. These are very nice snapshots of your gorgeous tank. I especially love your luminous green acro sameonsis and your purple tipped acro gemmifera.
  13. Thanks for the compliements, bros and sis Regarding the yellow prostrata, its closest neighbour is my abratonoides @ kitkat acro. Warfare between them has resulted in the prostrata having burnt tips! I had to snip off a bit of its branches to minimize such battles. Guess I have to frag the prostrata one of these days.
  14. For lawchan, this is how my acro abratanoides is placed.
  15. My old trusty acropora samoensis which I have had since Dec 2011. Been through quite a lot and is a survivor who can hold on to colours.
  16. Update on my strawberry shortcake acro (acropora microclados)
  17. My second purchase from Iwarna's Tonga shipment - acropora secale. A combo of green and light lavendar colours.
  18. A purchase from the Tonga shipment at Iwarna today. Stylophora pistilatta.
  19. Recent acquisitions. An aussie "Real Deal" acro echinata. I like the sky blue polyps
  20. My other acro hoeksemai frag which I have had for 8 months. Super slow grower.
