WATER LEVEL In order to make the water level look more distinct, I put a piece of styrofoam. This will float an the water surface, hence indicating the level. (Must make it very easy for the wife to see...if she never top up, my TUBBY pump will run dry) It works prettty well. I bought the 30L version and based my current 3ft evaporation rate, it needs to be topped up every 7-9 days. (Again, enough margin of error for the wife, so should have no excuse. Hahaha....)

CONSTRUCTION The unit is made of dark colour acrylic. The center has a clear strip of acrylic, which can be used to check the level of water. The workmanship is very good and looks very professional. Each acylic joint has a additional silicone as a double protection, which will likely make the I~Top hardy and lasting.

WHAT IS I~TOP I~TOP is a acrylic reservoir for top up water. It is made to fit the TUBBY nicely. As a self confessed DIY wannabe (but never get down to doing anything useful), I found the I~Top very neat. It has the following benefit: 1) Looks good enough to put outside the tank cabinet without looking makeshift. 2) Simple enough to handover the task of filling up to the wife. Good for people who going reservist or overseas. 3) Provides the most appropriate place to place the TUBBY (isolated from, but close enough to the reservoir)

Upgrade.....hmmm. I diligently track all my expenditure on my tank in a excel spreadsheet. Put it simply, this file is password protected so my wife will never stumble upon it, and I am only keeping a humble 3ft tank. Hahah....but yet, I'm thinking of a nice way to upgrade my lights.

Yellow Tang vs Purple Tang - Round One!
keithtty replied to flipper's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Day 2 is the most worst. Fins all tattered. Today is day 4 and the fins seem to be recovering. I think the anger management using mirror does work. 80% of the time, YT and Kole fight themselves, 20% they fight with PT. At least PT seem to be able to hold his own now and can swim around. Does anyone have any experience in first introducing into one of those clear acrylic boxes with holes in the side walls? Let them see no touch first? LFS always do this, but somehow I cannot bear to see my new fish restrained in the box becos I though it might already be stressed enuf. Like being jailed. -

I just added a smalled purple tang to my 3ft with a larger YT, Kole and Hippo. Wish me luck... I put a huge mirror against my tank. Work once before. See whether it is first time lucky or this method have good repeatibility...kekeke. Today is day 1. -

Hi all, I, too, planning my sump. I am still strying do decide whether to submerse my pumps or pipe them external to the sump. Placing them outside will give me more space for the refugium, but I am worried of leakage. I am using Ehiem 1060 and a smaller one for re-circulating to chiller. Also, any advantage in terms of heat transfer to the water. Wondering if it will make a difference to electrical $$. Thanks! -Keith

Hi AGM65, Great tank! I am currently re-starting my tank after shifting it from my old place. I am currently planning out my sump, so your pictures of your refugium really interest me. How are the different sections connected? Looks like the level of the section with the pumps will be sensitive to evaporation. Also, does this configuration require a lot of maintenance to the pump intake? I was thinking of piping the pumps external to the sump. Does that offer any advantages in your opinion. Thanks, -Keith

Hi UFO, I took Yahid's advice and bought the river sand from Petmart: I intend to place the riversand below, followed by #1 sand above. My tank is totally empty currently. -Keith

Hi UFO, I too am starting my DSB and am currently looking for the "live" stuff to seed my tank. I was told to go to Changi at low tide, walk out and get some "live" sand. Not sure if this will work, but it seems logical. Just bought my sand yesterday. Going to use a very fine river sand and top it with #1 coral sand. Let me know if u find a better source. BTW, where is Sam's shop? -Keith
