  1. Ge.... me old man liao. Many times cannot see the "obvious" You can on the light full day, or "reverse photoperiod" = main tank on, sump off, and vice versa. Personnally I would go for reverse photoperiod, dont want work the plant like slave.... "sayang" them mah..... Its best put the plant after your coral chips section, since nitrate is also output from the chips. If really no place, "chin-chai" loh. Afterall the water still flow back one. IMO: functionality wise, the sump of both are practically same, except you can't practically put sand in #1, unless the sand level must lower than the baffle inlet height, else jamup, flooding oh. #2 you can put sand in easy, since you not bothering with sand, no eye see lah.
  2. Yoh, bad things ppl can find out easily, like many newbie gave up... how about those good or positive one? Like newbie is loving their marine tank now.... and forgot to feed his dog.... if these good\positive marine newbie are doing good is because of SRC, then it mean SRC is working. Cannot credit all bad scores to SRC because of quiter, you know.
  3. Bro, I believe you are really new into this hobby. If so, then I would suggest skip the DSB part, as its not a "guarantee" working sys. Go for simple thing, for your purpose, growing macroaglae will be good enough. Depend on the type, but mostly I'm awared of no need sand, and even those need sand, they sure can grow on rock as well. So, just get rock will be good enough. Try get the Chaetomorpha, I believe only few reefers have it. else Caleurpa will be good enough, just know that you need to "harvest \ prune" it when it grow too much or getting certain signs.
  4. How would a buyer\reefer know the stock he getting is legal or not? Got "chop" or "special sticker" on the coral or fish body? If we assume cheap = illegal, then all LFS will sell same\standard price, but they will still bring in illegal stuff, more profit, as no need selling cheap. So, unless you have to "bong chan" (buy from) LFSs that are "certified" only.... So, not much we can do. Unless we all STOP buying. Just make sure you buy the stock and will take good care of it, who bother anything else?
  5. Miracle Mud is not necessity. Depend on what you intend for your refugium. Ppl who intend as temp resting place for their pets, like when newly stock, just to get settle to new environment, usually not much needed. LR would be sufficient. Ppl who intend it as nutrient export, some do it like DSB style, so should follow DSB guildelines. Or just growing macroalgae, normal light like NO about 30+W would be good enough. It depend on what you intend it for.

    seio flow

Take that as your spare time challenging game. Try posing different angle and position, to workup the best you want. --- your pets gonna hate you play-play with flow like that --- Mon shifted to one corner ok one, then you go kacau-kacau, bugger.... --- If you got frustrated with it, look into manifold + scwd, more random flow IMO
  7. aiyo, you should stated clearly leh, voted already but taking in the powerhead. in my case, is 3. excluding 2 powerhead
  8. hmmm.... is your clownfish sick? Kind of looks like got white powder on its body.... ich?
  9. http://www.petsforum.com/personal/trevor-jones/blackich.html CTO- tang is known to get black ich. you should post this in disease forum, bro. GL
  10. your one look so "white". Maybe it dont need light, so no need bother "shifting home" for better light?
  11. Just did a water chk yesterday, and the last chking is 3 months ago ... hehe Found that Calcium dropped to 250, dKH 7, and Nitrate 10 (orange color) !!! No wonder why my caleurpa grow so good past 2 months. And I been stopped dosing kalk from about that time, as concern over high pH. my pH is 8.4 - 8.6 . After using the new toy pH testpen. Reading the color result make me crazy, I thought I got over 8.8+ !!! 8.8 is the max of the testkit power. Siao.... Gonna reduce feeding, the fishs have eat a little bit lesser liao. Feed dialy. Economic not so good, have to eat lesser loh.... Think have let the caleurpa grow more, prune less, else not enough "suckers".
  12. That aiptasia must evolved some intelligence to avoid extermination from my newly pet peppermint shrimp in my refugium. That bugger somehow hide in a baffle b4 the refugium. Too tight to try anything. And it look no small. That area damn high flow, will it do well in there? Or its just time matter that it gonna being wasted too? Bugger....
  13. Brother, better keep it as "spare part", and DONT BOTHER to use it. Dont play-play with your live, your tank lives, and your home on risk just because of a half-damn-spoiled powerhead. Not worth for it. Look it in a way, your dog somehow predict the powerhead will create a big damn disaster, so it doing the "bad guy" role to save you.... You know, animals do have some "mystic power".... (watch too much National Geography.... hehehehe )
  14. SEIO pump is in-water powerhead for water circulation. Not those external pump. Maybe can mod it to become like a fan, sure can be very damn strong!
  15. LOL....!!!! Yoh, anyone gonna put them onto text? So "kelam-kabut" especially the starting part, probably missed out a lot of "flowery" words oh.... hahahahahaha......

    seio flow

Sounds like you need a 2nd powerhead as kind of counter the flow. Can try slightly point the powerhead toward tank glass, attempt to create some flow deflection. That's the cons of such powerhead, that's why we opt to have "random" flow. It same in my tank too. Norm.
  17. You care too much for the fish tank and forget to feed your dog. Lesson learned.....
  18. Very likely those stock may port to nieghbour to sell. Could it be insider related? That bugger will need more ppl and a proper transportation to carry out the deed.

    seio flow

Maybe you forgot to set it to "high" flow? Or the flow is being hindered by other blockade, like rock?
  20. Guess the peppermint need time to get used to new home. Now I noticed many missing aiptasia in my refugium too
  21. Hard to comment on my one. Also my 1st time using. But definitely far better using chemical stuff.
  22. IMO: for DSB, 0 and 1 best. Else, >= 2
  23. Beta Glucan somekind of extract from yeast. According to an article, very good to improve fish immunity. Do a search in the dieases forum on the word, sure can get you something.
  24. Wah, sounds really serious problem with the Diamond! :| I been using it for > 6 months, never boil the water. Shit, hope no big thing come. Think gonna warn my family liao. And I use the water for top off too. No big problem....yet.
