  1. sorry being an -ah beng- here, but what's the last of of the joke, single and married. I didn't catch the joke. What's that about?
  2. thx, bro. I found this one too: http://www.birdflu.org.cn/ *** Bird flu is -NOT- the same as SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome). Although their symptoms are similar, SARS is caused by completely different viruses. ***
  3. in my understanding, bird flu are primary affecting avian animals, right? and they spread by one physical contact or eat the other (different type of avian) feces? not through air, right? when affecting human, can become SARS, is it? but SARS can spread through air, right?
  4. what's your tank sizing? think its too bare, the 6 lines wrasse in my experience can be a bully king. your rockscaping kind of .... unstable to me. are they firmly stacked? else dont want your fishs sleep-sleep then suddenly the rocks collapsing...
  5. No need that drastic lah. In reality, we likely will treat our beloved (ppl) difference than the pet. Hardly ppl will really sell house sell car to treat a pet, but its likely for family. as long as one treat the pet with good heart -love-, that's the primary force. got problem then go foruming again loh. Sure there's ton of dog-lovers... love also got many levels leh....
  6. you can readjust your powerhead to have move power\flow over the problematic spot. Or new small-power\flow flow should help. but noted such approach doesn't mean you don't need to maintain the sand bed. You still need, but can be less frequent, and minimize the working spots to other more flows-stagnant areas. me personally, i would gradually replace the sand, and get a long-time sand-sifter to work for me. 1 stone 2 birds an another way may be to dose the anti-PO4 or more carbon running to ease the bad chemical build-up (not my preference). But these only should be practice by ppl with more confident. Marine tank is like a small mini-chemistry lab, play-play with it and your livestocks may "mutate"..... hehehehee....
  7. apart from your hand (kekeke...), cheap fishs like damsels or snails maybe can be used for such purpose?
  8. IMO: ppl that keeping pets because of the "cuteness" will generally cause these problems. And I really distaste and discourage ppl for such purpose, aquarium is one of them. For me, its the fascination about seeing something live in a mini world in my home. Oceanic live forms are mystery and always engulfing me, probably watch too much National Geography. If I got chance, I would like to pet a dog as well. Seeing that these animals kind of having a special bond with the ppl is very aspiring. Like having your "bro" or "sis", the only concern and bad thing I perceived is "potong" them, to cause them unable to breed. To me this is cruel also.... well, maybe there should be something like a dog-condom like the market..... LOL (serious-lah) "cuteness" fantasy not really applicaple onto pets only, look closely, its happened in ourself toward others ppl as well. Like you like/chase/pick your gf/wife because she's cute/beautiful/######, eventually this element will faded out. That's the time problem will start. So, let's grow out of these addiction of "cuteness-fantasy". One should only can fool around with them before adulthood (like your teddy bear, not me ) hehehe....
  9. oh, i read some threads at RC on relevant topic, ppl concern that gobies spill the sand crazyly, covering their coral. generally watchman goby like the diamond is the recommended one, as it sift\filter the sand be right back at where it suck them. yellow head will make a big mess, if you dont mind. hth
  10. sand-sifting goby http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/scateg.cfm?pCatId=1851 but with the grain size of your sand, those gobies will die eating -LOL- all swallow death. grade 0 or 1 only suitable. what's your problem? you sand bed getting dirty? for that size of your sand, you should perform sand bed cleaning\vacuming regularly. IMO: you can try add-in (few) new powerhead(s) to help blowing across the sand bed, to reduce garbage stacked up there. hth
  11. if you want, you can do it. there's a thread past burying in somewhere here about how to change sand. basically is slowly (over a quite long time, like few weeks) and small portion. if you old sand been living long time in the tank (1 year+-), you need to be more careful. some chemistry burying deep can be harmful to the LS if all surfaced at large quantity. usually ppl do the small replacement when cleaning the sand bed (if they do that, not me ) another way is topup\add-on new layer of your sands. but if too deep, its likely gonna be DSB and you need more further research on this. hth
  12. then challenge the owner in loudly: "wah! your all live stocks buy from supermarket one! Wa Lan Nih!"
  13. 1. If you refering to chemistry, basically its proper additive dosing, frequent new\fresh salt water replacement. read up doc\articles for beginner, then tell us what you learnt or in doubt, and we will help fill you in and more. 2. IMO, I would recommend fish 1st, especially for beginner. reason: - generally, coral need are more sensitive and demanding than fish. as general, coral dont move, so water need to have good\proper quality to sustain them, while fish can hunt for food themself. in term of maint and care, fishs are more feasible. - of course, chk with experienced reefers here b4 buying any fishs. certain fishs need special and proper care, and make taking care as hard as coral too. hth
  14. yes. recommended. try pick the slightly bigger size for them, also new shell better. chk out at the LFS, they sometime will have bunch of empty shells, not much value to them. either buy or ask, or as gift for other purchases.
  15. my pair of false percula spawned few times before. After ther removal of their beloved anemone due to dying, they stop it now. Too bad I'm not ready for culturing fish larvae. Don't disturb their "home", and eventually with good feeding and stable environment, they will do that. hth
  16. Sea Cucumber are "too slow" for me... I seeking sand-sifter-guys too. I'm working up my QT, as I going to get 1 pair of diamond goby. I tried few (so-call) reef-safe hermit crabs. too bad they practically work at night. Its during the daytime that the cyano\bacteria most aggressive. I need something to work hard at this time. I used to have a very good hermit crab at cleaning the sand bed (surface), but its not reef-safe - common hairy red hermit. Gave away after disturbed my new feather and a cuke. Now I wish I can get it back
  17. Mmm.... Eric "the coral guru"... Not familiar with GregT... he's active in the specialists subforum?... Wow! CSI type of FBI type investigation? Bomber "bomb" the site? hehehe... Well, to me, Bomber is kind of "hard" and "aggresive" guy, but he's real resourceful. He's kind of good in Chemistry, known him at Anthony and the Chemist subforums. He's feedback sometime (or most time) are kind of harsh, but there are always good info\details trailed with the treatment.... hehehe.... Too bad, RC is kind of virtual community "achievement" to me...
  18. In past, I thought I will not find any human retarded stuffs (apart from the ######... kekeke) in the digital world. Obviously, human evil can seep into many ways and forms. Not even a hobbyist forum can be spare...
  19. Oh, wonder who's this hot-head mod.... anyone got the link or specific keyword into the "deep of the war(thread)", I'm interested (keh-boh) to know the full story coverage... hehehe...
  20. I been out-of-touch on reefing forums (this and RC), and seems like lot of negative things happened... Anyone knew what triggered the major "shuffle" in RC? I just try my past-regular browsing on RC, and seems like Dr. Ron "vanished" liao... What happened ah? Terrorists struck forum too!?
  21. Better keep a watch, dont want some funny-bug play-play with your brother mah.
  22. IMO: the size is good for some small marine intervebrate and small fishes, and maybe few med-size fishs. Shrimps, sea-cuke, goby, wrasse, clownfish, chromis, dottyback, etc... How about a sea-plant tank? There are some devotees in RC, but dunno SG got such nice stocks for the plants.
  23. IMO: 1. How about using 1 return pump which also serve as chiller pump? No need waste 1 pump, and 2 pumps may cause your return water very low being suck by 2 pumps. 2. Wouldn't it will cause you inconvenient to work the refugium by placing it in the center? Like catching fish, maint etc. Also cannot observe it directly, a big crab can hide in there for years and you wont know.
  24. There's also a possibility that the dirty\oily water surface hard to flow into the overflow, as most powerhead\return water will pushed back the water surface toward the glass. I have similar problem, although its not center+middle overflow, I setup up my tank intended for 3 sides view, 4' x 1.5' x 1.5' D. a single overflow is at the small side (center) near the wall, I see many more than half of the water surface is oily+dirty, and spining around at 1 side, being pushed back the water circulation intended at surface agitation from the overflow side. HTH
  25. IMO: the less electrical devices to be use, the safer we are. Unless the device is over your requirement. SEIO 620 vs 820, not that much difference. I would go for 820.
