I read somewhere that Iron is more essential for green and Iodine is more essential for Red Brown & Purple, gonna see if it would help with my Ochtodes. Good luck bro!
-
yes very likely bro, most of my Caulerpa Serrulata (razor) went sexual as well. Many reasons, I haven't prun them enough and haven't performed water changes for about 2 months. NO3 still low about 5-10ppm and PO4 registers 0.1-0ppm. So i think it could be due to lack of nutrients for my case. Started dosing trace element with Iodine and Magnesium recently on-top of Iron and KNO3 which i've been dosing to see how long i can go without water changes.
-
No idea bro, the octodes are quite palatable, i already removed all the urchins in the display tank to avoid anymore destruction to the macroalgae :| This is my favorite part of the display tank now, Red coco worm + Galaxaura + Dragon breath
-
1 month on, my tank has been overtaken by greens. Most of the Ochtodes got wipe out by unknown predator. Also added what i believe to be Gracilaria Hayi (dragon breath) available recently from MarineLife. what is left of the Ochtodes

so beautiful, interested too. Following

Hi Bro, I can pass you more when i prun them, the same type of macroalgae as before
-
One handfull of Caulerpa Serrulata and Caulerpa Taxifolia and some little branches of Caulerpa Racemosa all for SGD5. Self collect in Clementi only. Please PM if interested

An update of the sump which is powered by 18w red LED, it has a bit of every macroalgae in the display tank as backup, also transfered some of the purple ochtodes because something is taking it apart in the display. The mandarin is there to recuperate from fierce fight Also caught many brittle stars of different sizes while changing the filter floss, they've grown too much and are starting to be considered pest population in the tank, they snatched food from mandarin and seahorses. Otherwise they're pretty good clean-up crew, would anyone be interested in them?
-
will work too, i'm on a 24hour photoperiod for the sump hence the growth rate is really fast with 18w

This light was shared by another bro in the thread on ATS http://www.ebay.com/itm/321600765495 I've been using it for the ATS cum macroalgae in my sump. They work really well!
-
LOL ic ic, they're in the 1st page. Too messy to show the current state in full now
-
The sump is only the 2nd and 3rd photos. they're for the filter and 'refugium' for new macroalgae, currently there're some more macroalgae there not in the display tank. I learnt the hard lesson after i introduced new macroalgae directly into the display tank and got wipe out within few days I think it could those hitch hiker urchins! Do you mean the ATS? i've some photos of them in the previous post. The only changes is the lighting for the sudden growth of those turf algae Currently using those red LED for plants. The fishes and seahorses r all in the display tank. Good flow bro, the expensive wave maker is really for these macroalgaes But sadly the red tux urchin decided to tear the big piece of ochtode apart and use them as camouflage. Thanks man!

The macroalgae tank as of 17-Sep-2015 Converted a small part of the sump into ATS since there is a constant downward water-fall. Gave up on the solar powered light in favor of red plant-glow LED light. The NO3 is at 0ppm and PO4 at 0.025ppm. I have also been fighting cyanobacterial for about 2 months now and the haze is a blessing in disuse since it has stopped the growth of cyano XD I'm currently dosing Seachem Flourish Nitrogen to increase the NO3 to bring the Redfield ratio to a balance. Iron is also added every 2 days. Ending the update with close-up photos of the farm-bred seahorse, the Mandarin fish and hitch-hiker red tuxedo urchin

would love to have them too! How do u plan to bring it from overseas?
-
The initial motivation of starting a macroalgae tank is to grow enough pods for Mandarin fishes which also serve as a good 'catch' for frozen food. Usually the feeding is done targeted onto a bunch of algae next to the Mandarin fishes & seahorses. Here is a video of both the Mandarin and seahorses feeding on enriched brineshrimp, sometimes when i'm lucky, both of them will be nipping from the same spot!
-
Nice! are you doing any supplement dosing?
-
Thank you
-
Added too much enriched formula into their feed for the first time and they went into mating mood this evening! http://www.facebook.com/CKSSS/videos/10153492280720789/?l=961406290017865483

haha yes, also found those gigantic outdoor tank in reefcentral. Compared to indoor tank which i used to do, yes the macroalgae and undesirable algae does grow much faster especially when the balcony is west facing with at least 2 hours of direct sun everyday. The cycling phrase was the worse, half of the sediment and the most of the main-tank wall were covered with hair algae, and then followed by lots of diatom or dark brown stuff under the sandbed. I should have documented the cycling stages but didnt But after i've introduced the macroalgae and start more serious skimming, the hairalgae in the main-tank were gone, they still manage to grow in the sump very slowly since it gets more direct sun light, but thats ok since it act as an 'ATS' And i'm not exactly running low nutrient tank, PO4 registers 0ppm after cycle and NO3 still hovers from 20-40ppm. Top-up water usually register TDS of 0-5ppm. I do believe if you have the nutrient under control it wouldnt be so much of a problem, the heat is more challenging aka "expensive" to manage in balcony setup.

Hi JL, I searched high & low for saltwater aquarium in balcony and couldnt find much too, went ahead and setup one but its still pretty new (4 months). Posted some photos of my 40g long in balcony setup over at the "Marine Aquarium Plants & Algae" section. The water temp can register as high as 31 degreeC thought, and the things im keeping are quite ok with it. I don't keep any coral so less of the challenge with keeping water temp low. Hope it helps
-
Thank you Planning to fill up the sandbed with seagrass looking macro-algae next, or with real seagrass if managed to get them

WTB aiptasia eating peppermint shrimps
CKS replied to DottyClown's topic in Sell off/Pasar Malam Shop
also saw them in MarineLife just few days ago -
The tank as of 19 July 2015 New hitch-hiker Caulerpa (Taxifolia?) started manifesting itself in the center of the tank and Caulerpa Racemosa is fast taking over, this is also the most propagated algae in the tank. The reds are the slowest growing algae so far
-
Do you mean the solar powered one? The eBay merchant i bought from only indicated that is white light of 2700K-3000K I'm using a white light and warm light for the cheato but no significant growth yet, will let it run for another month before i change them out to alternate light
-
oops so sorry bro for late reply! they have been fully lit using sunlight until recently after i added the solar powered spotlight in the sump. The spotlight on the main tank gets turned on only at night when i return from work so they dont provide much growth. They've been thriving so far with just natural light and strong current, i also make sure the surface of every macroalgae gets enough flow to stay 'clean'
