this is the t-5 switch off. I use 2 cable ties to attach them to my main lighting system. plan to get some trunking or chengai timber strip as support as removeable light fixture.
-
the separator will fit snuggly into the base, after modificatino done by cutting away 7mm, after, leave 7mm to reinforce support!
-
as the filter box has 2 guide lines in it , need to trim abit, to fit the wings in , so as to cover up the side holes
-

remember the filter separator other half? cut off the sides to use as material to cover up original filter box filtration holes. For the tank side holes, use 2 old black round plastic botteom bcaps or anyother materials. Am thinking of attaching a red stiff string to the filter inlet , so can see the "moving' speed of water flows..

thinking of placing a t-joint,add something of a durso type to overflow box ..still toying with the idea, will white -tape all to test, before glueing permanent...thats later...
-
the dimension of the base plate is 13.4cm, the end with valve, I am cutting to 20.5cm, leaving 4mm behind, so ai can re-use the valve- i like to salvage what ever parts I can, as oyo will never know when you can reuse them! (lesson in DIY!)
-
Preparation , marking must all be done before cuting any parts....got the base trim to fit, coming along nicely- But I know will not be able to complete the job in 1 nite
-
lay out the 2 boxes, and use the U-tube to adjust eventual desired height, sand paper to trim edges.Use a masking tape to mark the internal plate (cannot afford mistake here!!@ Hacksaw it, the back of the plate has a tube incorporated in
-
Made a few cuts with cutter to guide my hack saw path.went in like knife thru butter! used a old wine crate as my work top! the black tube of silcon cost me $4/- will use remainder to fix my leaky patio roof! used a piece of sand paper to smooth out the edge.
-
marked out the box , 25cm is good depth. ( the Juwel internal filter box has 2 slit to hold a centre plate for the filter pump. Plan to use this plain mesh to hold the eventual overflow boxes
-
as it was saturday night and I was working in my patio with dark timber got to use the white foam to lay out the materials (foam from cooking hob box-just diy my kitchen cooking hob..but thats a diff story...) here are the surgical tools I plan to use, just bought this cutter $8/-- becareful if u use it ,extremely sharp.Made a few cuts into the plastic box , before applying the hack saw- think the cutter can cut thru the box if I draw more cut lines in

Good day to all, after going thru alot of web materials concerning diy overflow-just got to give this a try 1) existing Juwel internal filter box sitting idle 2) hope this helps the juwel aquarium users (with same issues!) 3) guess I got too much time on my hands over the weekend I already had a "powered" overflow filter modified from Jebo 'FOUNTAIN" hang-on filter box. anyway here we go..... BTW the 2 blue u-shaped tubes I got from planted tank shop next to THE NATURE AQUARIUM opposite thomson medical centre-$8/- each " feel that god's hands guided me"

hi, I diye-ed a similar set, using black netting a support on top of tank "kinda like those u put up on gates to prevent stray animals...." anyway with fan's evaporation rate was high, and indoor temp around 27 to 28 -day time, nite time you may acheive 26 to 27 degree, and if it rains the desired 25 -26 degree for marine tank! if your is a planted fresh water tank thats ok, but suggest you get a chiller! cos this diy set I use to cool my lighting system as I hook it up to a solar panel!

I bought this at lighting shop, change the T5 (6500k tube) to actinic as the juwel 3 feet tank has 2x fluorescent already! simply used cable -ties to attach this to my fluorescent lights.(cost ard 25 to 28 for the set!)-I love to DIY's ,please treat this just an input to whats available beside from LFS out there. We can improvise

thks buddy! The 2 batches of caulerpa failed as I had it on 8 to 10hrs lighting- now going for 24/7 for the lights- went sexual on me!!! turn white and just rot away, also sea urchins ate most of it! this strain is doing well! going to monitor the phosphates level this weekend (had readings of 1ppm-gosh!) will buy a batch of nice grapes next to try out (lights on 24/7) really need to control the phosphates naturally
-
but if it is for the refugium, and for taking out the phosphates and nitrates in the water, wouldn't it be ok? I dont want to use chemicals if i have a choice for nutrient exports...this tank is solely commissioned as a refugium and amphipods factory before entering my main tank throught the pump up from sump-anyone knows the exact name of this specie-also had 3 (green lettuce)nudibranch hitchhiker, they ate up my 2 rocks full of turtle weed! in 3 days
-
I bought a caulerpa rock algae from local LFS, it had a small clump of this, after 1 month I lost most of the original caulerpa and this specie prolilferated !Can anyone tell me if this a juvenile of the caulerpa or another undesirable type ? plan to have caulerpa in my refugium.

well done- you sure put in alot of time/effort. A question on your diy siphon, how is it working out? does it break siphon? and restarts? thanks for your input
-
Where is SEALIFE? located. Like to give it a try, am using DI water, running 3 cannister with 1 micron paper fillter-think my problem with tap water and feeding!
-
think I also got one of this hairy little rascal, as a hitch-hiker on my rocks, but cannot seem eot trap him! only active at nite. Please explain what damage he does?
-
no problem dude, just my input-already using this concept, need to work out the kinks still-I wanted more control of flow rate thats why I use the in-built pump from Jebo-intent to use this tank- more for planted sea grasses refugia.the gravity siphon incorporated in the system is erratic at most- dont really like it- so only as a back up I kept it (already built it in anyway!) can use smaller siphon with valves to control rate of flow

Gathering for all reefers
keithtanbb replied to blueheaven's topic in SRC Contest and prizes section
add me in for a copy of his books, will support this initiative for a reef gathering. If we can rope in some sponsors for the site- some demonstrations on fragging for example would be great- -
this is the sump/ another refugium - have a octopus in it!!! running the T-5 24/7 (will advise on progress) the $65 is for the sump tank- plus hole drilled for attaching float valve
