  1. I bought some "sugar cane " water from Ah Beng as alternative ....started a culture at home in my sump/refugium (with 24/7 : 2x 2 feet T5 daylight...2 coke bottle version culture....stood them in my sump! making sure no copepods, got in there.!harvested a cup a day -refill with "miracle grow" laced DI water....am feeding my tigger pods with that - plan to get rotifers or brine shrimp eggs -called most places with no success so far ( last time I did it -mail ordered from Florida Farm....costly but- quality and availability assured! if you dont have the time....phytofeast is convenient
  2. try to put them on piece of stone....for them to anchor on..flow cannot be strong.
  3. go Pasir Ris "Ah Beng" been seeing steady supply there...on weekends when I visited. got a pair from him and been keeping them in my sump/ double as my refugium with grapes (red, green) algae, some chaetomorpha , laced with tigger pods. I feed daily with frozen bits of mysis shrimps.Sea horses are shy, wont do well in main tank unless dedicated to only them.
  4. yeah best way is to trap them...improvised traps...I used drinking bottle cut half way..put shrimp meat in...they come out at night to feed...if u got fishes sleeping in rocks..they will try to grap/eat fishes so good to get rid of them fast
  5. want to re-start green water culture as am planning sea horse tank.prefer nanochloropsus strain if possible
  6. yes- and top up with fresh.....my 7 feet tank crashed when chiller died.....and had massive brown algae attacks...had to removed all the rocks/dried them for 2 weeks, water jet them clean,,,,and re-introduced into my big sump tank.....before re-scaping.in my main tank- didnt do a 100percent water change. So still hs algae on glass, sand....siphon out bt by bit-and with additon of cleaners....tank looks good!I must say
  7. yeah auto feeder dry pellets....4x a day- cost $25/-......you select quantity of food you want to drop.
  8. best is to use thin piping- try to suck out the algae...I attached a air-hose to thin bamboo stick with rubber bands...to slowly suck out,,,,,,whille have another bamboo with bend toothbrush to scape exposed rocks...tedious but what to do- for sands...2 golden head gobies, 2 sand shifting stars..., 2 short hair urchins (from Ah Beng's)..+ with regular water changes,,,worked well for me!.also dont over feed!
  9. my 3 and half year old Samoyed...sweetest canine! adores children
  10. got mine from CORAL FARM....had infestation of aiptasia in my then FOWLR....tank. so urgently needed them(problem gone in a week!!!) money well spent!
  11. the photo cell power line is this..otherwise can anyone tell me the voltage/amp of the supply power? so I can go diy a power adaptor..many thanks
  12. Hi all. looking for new or good condition tunze 7094.40 ...it is the photocell type adaptor
  13. why not buy a good skimmer- diy your own ATS? its a few hours job-provided you work out a detailed plan and have a good hardware store handy. I did mine. Bought a shuran skimmer from Reef system...damn solid! But felt since I tend to feed more to both fishes and corals.I researched and DIY my own - over time -upgraded it by adding chaeto's (kindly given to me by "theblob" http://www.algaescrubber.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26&p=332&hilit=Keithtanbb#p332 http://www.algaescrubber.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=316
  14. Hi, restarted my tank (due to lack of time/other work projects) now need to find some good chaeto to stock in my refugium.......so if you have any currently to spare please let me know....Keith Tan (96181195) on leave this week -so can pick up from you.I live in Bedok
  15. I tried to post pictures here but, no options available to me.......so I link it here http://www.algaescrubber.net/forums/viewto...p?f=3&t=316
  16. cannot seem to attach pictures here (give up trying ) so registered on algae scrubber forum - http://www.algaescrubber.net/forums/viewto...mp;p=2381#p2381
  17. ok, here it goes (btw been following this thread for a week! so reading alot of the works of mudshark and santa monica.....Plan A; using a large grey"Toyogo" brand aundry basket as the ATS box, good capacity but takes up alot of space and is not opaque....otherwise cheap to buy plus I already got it.
  18. Hi, I am very impress by all the work/experimentations going on!, inspired to work on one for my own 7 footer ! ,with modified designs from your inputs- kudos to santa monica and mudshark
  19. think if you search the topic, chaeto discussion comes up quite often....anyway, you just need a florescent lighting (change tube to 6500k), keep it on 24hrs /7 days......the chaeto's will grow well. I even grown some in natural sunlight.near window.
  20. Hi, I have successfully grown "api api', Red , white mangroves in a special made $60/ tank in natural sunlight in my car porch next to my 7 feet aquarium(do a search on my past posts...I have some pics on the infant mangrove tank.I also have a CHAETOMORPHA refugium. I plant them in 4 inch sand bed.with pods.Attrition rate was 70 percent! After a year they grown to 2 feet height.Plan to "bonsai"them I threw some chaeto on the base .even that grew well in natural/indirect sunlight. So nutrient export got to be good.
  21. that is a bristle worm, they are unsightly.....but some fishes do nibble at them, they arre nocturnal .It is almost impossible to rid them if you have live stones and sand bed.go google info on them, alot out there.
  22. 1) I use a mineral water bottle , throw in some bait (usually prawns) and wait for damsels ,small fishes to get in.-The most success I have, but only small fishes 2) I use a "holding plastic cage" you can get one easily at LFS, the one with top and one side access-$16 type.....clear plastics. Tie a bait and use a fish line with a fishing lead weight. Fish goes in, drop the gate!-Dont expect too much success if you fail to get the fish into the tight cage...maybe starve them 1st. 3) i use a torch light and with a net, coax the fish in! avoiding the corals and such-MESSY
  23. Hi, I have some Astraea Snails for sale...and chaetomorpha.PM ms if you require them.I use 10 of them for my 7 footer tank. But as some had propagated ...am willing to sell 6
  24. water parameters.......add sufficient buffer. ? I find the A,B,C package from Jireh marine shop in west coast, very useful/efficient
  25. I have previously bought my culture disc from "florida farm" but then I do find the live phytoplankton you buy from LFS equally good.Theres a lot of information free off the internet if you google it---(maybe you will find relevant info from my previos posts on this subject) I have since stopped my culture due to lack of time maintaining it...also cannot resolve the phostphates issues from the fertilizers I was using (initially the plankton growth formula from florida farm, then "miracle grow" brand...garden plants fertilizer as subsitute
