  1. wow bro RAV-65, again (as usual) i am late in this thread ... i have no heart to joke on this thread. i sincerely hope all is well for your sister and family. ever since i reefed 7 months, i realised everything i dosed has a good side and a bad side. too much of it, LS dies; too little, LS also dies. but, to find that right dosage requires both patience and commitment to the hobby. (i learned all these partially from you too ) you see: our dear mr. D started by using someone else's pot of gold to start his business (the initial 4 dyalysis centres). through his own passion and effort, he later expanded this pot of gold to many pots of gold (21 centres around the island). he was very happy over the result. he felt that every new pot of gold since built by him is his to take. he claims everything under the sun. he wanted to fully enjoy his fruits of labour. (this same thing happened in my friend's company too) but, unfortunately, because the first pot of gold was not his to begin with, mr. D can never claim ownership. that's where the problem lies. sigh ... herein lies the distinction: an entreprenuer must first painstakingly build his first pot of gold. some even exhaust their entire life doing it. e.g., popular's daddy bookshop in bras basah; it was only his sons that took popular to the next higher plane, but the first pot of gold was his dad's, so no one can fault them (his sons) when they all drive juguars to work. an employee on the other hand can never claim any ownership rights to the organisation that he serves. he draws only a salary. therefore, what goes round comes round. the greeder the employee is, the faster and steeper his fall. so my friend Vincent, don't add any more dyoxin into your body (by being stressed up). let's cheong more lFS ... loh every dog has his day. (i.e., all man will be hit by his karma, it is only a matter of time ... ) watch my lips ... lizard
  2. wow bro RAV-65, me read this thread too late, otherwise sure join in the fun and poke at you lah ... since your car is pathetic, wanna change yours with my mercedes bus 11 (MY BEAUTIFUL PAIR OF SLIPPERS FROM THAILAND). hahahahaha ... anyway, enjoy my many conversations and trades with you. take care ... lizard
  3. hi min, are you asking this question for yourself or for some one else in the forum .... my definition: TRUE LOVE is when you no longer wish to set eyes on another girl. lizard
  4. hi .... if still available .... i want i want ... lizard44
  5. yes. the CL salt grew "tired" after about 3 months. i.e., the salt has very little things for it to be "alive". fishes were very stressed as a result and corallite algae not happy. i tried to replace water using CL salt, but very poor result, the pH doesnt even bother to shoot up. hence, have to recharge using much better salt. i tried the ME salt, wow, the pH shot up to 8.40 straight from 8.0. so happy me. newbie lizard
  6. hi bro me also very new here ... i have also been using c***** l***** as salt, but after about 3 months, the !@#$%^&* salt (my case only, i dont know about others) has all its trace and key elements missing (either too little or skimmed off). on a chanced offer, i have bought a doubly-priced salt called m***** env*****. since the switch, my water showed great parameters. i am now slowly changing all my old water to this new one. please dont trust what i said. newbie lizard
  7. hi bros (and sises) ... i am back ... miss me ... i cannot return earlier as the tests were slow and results sparse. i needed log-time scale to run these tests fully. hope you don't mind. okie let's clean up unfinished business and then we can continue to chit-chat ... hello all MA BAKERS ... just a recap: When SUGAR was dosed, the pH would reduce by about 0.3 in the beginning. by 24 hours or shorter, the pH would return back to the same as before but a teeny tweeny bit lower. long term dosing of SUGAR would drive down the pH from 8.30 to 7.90 (bad). so i suggested the use of BAKING SODA as a means to buffer the pH drop. on the average, whenever the pH dropped to hit 7.90, i would dose about 25-50g of BAKING SODA. the pH shot back up to 8.20. after that i waited for the pH to slide down again and the cycle repeats. but, according to CHEMICAL- ALI bro EKIA, dosing BAKING SODA would add alkalinity to the tank quite quickly. so i bought a KH test kit to check. my kH shot up from 12 to 19 (12 is best), but i thought not for 19. looked like i have at hand another problem - ultra-high kH. so i decided to bake my BAKING SODA for an hour hoping for better results. meanwhile, bro Kareen even suggested that i bake the BAKING SODA longer (2 hrs?) for even better results. the dosing of BAKING SODA continued. but kH remained extremely high in excess of 20. so i decided to stop the dosing of BAKING SODA. meanwhile, i have also reduced my dosing of SUGAR to about 1 tea-spoon. due to my laziness, my sg started to drop from 1.023 to 1.016. hahahaha ... because i just add plain water whenever i need to top up. the skimmer skimmed away lots of salt, hence, the drop in sg. upon a chanced encounter, i have to buy an !@$#$%#$% expensive new salt - mar*** env***. i used cor*** lif*** before this. i never did change water . i dosed about 3 table spoons of SALT into the sump (not directly into the main tank in case of fish kanna salt burn). guess what ... my pH shot up to 8.40. i never had such a high pH ever since i dosed SUGAR. i did not believe in the freak result. i intentionally repeated it by dosing sugar to bring down the pH again (8.00) and then, drain off some water from the tank and refill it with plain water and did the same dosing of salt. the pH shot back up to 8.40. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahaha ... i finally understood why reefers like and always recommend changing water regime. by changing water (by NSW or salt mixing), not only it restores the nice and high pH, it actually replaces any missing trace elements that might have used or removed. hence, contributed to the well-being of the tank inhabitants. so guys, please help me to verify this result, i.e., if your pH is low, just try to drain off some water and add plain water and dose SALT. measure pH after one hour ... due to this, i would like to officially close the sub-thread regarding MA BAKERS DOSING as it does not work well. please don't waste time trying it. now for lighter moments: my corals? (i have very little corals), except for squirts and sponges. they are healthy after i learned that i have to feed them (i didnt know previously that i need to feed). my 1-inch clam died after 5.5 months (hahahahahaha). again, i didn't know i need to feed it too. poor fella ... my LS are fine and kicking, except for a stupid human mistake. i bought LUGOL's solution (iodide solution) and dosed 10 drops. 9 LS killed within 1 day. since then, i have gotten myself cheap iodide powder ($20+ per kg, can dose for at least 10 years), so far so good. i have rewarded myself further (after my lemonpeel hybrid) by getting the majestic, golden butterfly (wow nice, already feeding at I****) and many cheap angels. i will shower myself with african FBs soon. hint: there are very nice, very small, very stable and cute "ugly" angels available (less than 1 inch in total length !!! ) right now in singapore. guys, better go grap fast before i finish them when i start to build my "ugly" school. i planned to have 4 only. lizard

  11. hi bro i am a poor newbie here too ... please don't be demoralised ... my tank leaked too ... about 1 month into my hobby (from 26 Dec 2004) ... sometime just before chinese new year or something like that. i believe you never say tank crack ... so ... i got no one to turn to ... so what i did was this ... i stopped the return pump i started an air pump to put air into the tank. i had circulation pumps on too ... since there was no return water ... there was no more water leaking ... i bought a full tube of silicon ($5.00) .... and i plastered the hell out of the leakage ... it looked like a tumour growth i waited for 24 hours .... my tank no more leaking liao .... 1 damsel died because of that ... hope it gives you some idea ... lizard
  12. just my thoughts: don't waste time in china ... go to an angmo place ... or an asian place (other than china) ... you will learn much more about people, honesty, fun and safety. top choice angmo places ... then vietnam is nice too ... people there are nice and humble. can go fishing. cambodia is nice too ... but watch out the hygiene problems. can go fishing or farming. if die die must go, then malaysia also can. but i heard bad things about safety in mount trekking. lizard
  13. hi bros this hobby is getting real serious ... now it involves GOD's blessings tooo i didn't know reefing in SRC has become a religion .... hahahahahaha how about this: let's us all meet and say hi to each other ... let life be ... it is supposed to be happy ... let's be merry ... i may be poor but i think i can still pay for coke (kopi tiam yes ... mac donald ... cannot) ... sometimes i think is miscommunication ... do remember the TAMPINES Family case. it was because the man of the house didn't want to talk and must keep face and then, booom .... so sad ... let's us all chilled and talk more ... maybe face to face is better. this messaging thing may not be complete in perception ... too much guessing ... sigh ... interestingly, this kopi tiam is more alive than the real forums ... hahahahahaha ... it is real fun .... i like it ... let's pray .... lizard

(the honourable seller helped me in the end, so one-dragon-path mah ...). this incident is really sad indeed. but, i do hope you will end well ... i have not met you before ... maybe i could meet you up and have a makan (on me lah) ... please don't let small case like this to occupy your FULL RAM. there are still many good planktons around ... (we are good enough even for a whale) have fun ... lizard

  20. hi bro DA you poor ahhh ... but can buy fish first and then sell it to old man, me ... that's not a poor student ... man but seriously, let this guy go lah ... i think he is reading the thread and will behave better next time. my story also quite nice: once upon a long long time ago, i was sent to a far away place called middle east with a friend (guy). we stayed in a 5-star hotel. then we both go tour lah. on the road, i met one singaporean opened restaurant in the desert. this guy is damn nice. we talk and talk. he even treat me to the best food. i don't want my friend to miss this. i brought him along. we ride on horsey and had great meals with this singaporean FREE. we later parted and both my friend and i returned to our university. guess what happened? on my friend's 21st birthday, he threw a party but i was not invited. after that, i confronted him and asked why? he told me that i was a clown (fish?) and joker, not very appropriate to attend. (TRUE. all the people that attended that party were later on power man.) later, when we both returned to singapore. he invited me for his wedding. his wife also from the same clevr uni. i didn't even bother to reply whether or not i am attending. i just didnt turn up. of course, he made the right choice. i was thrown out of the gahmen years later. he was made big head of gahmen. i never regretted my action. it is not about money but pride. AND pride has caused me dearly in the political game that i refused to play. i now worked as a small-time worker for POPULAR; but hack! i am happy. (hope he never read this ... hehe ...) lizard
  21. hi bro seamonkee i wonder if you could share with me the acrylic contact ... i am doing a top-up tank too .... a million lizard
  22. hi bro Gouldian a zillion for the link ... i will try to talk to them and see if there is a grant ... actually i don't mind staffing a paper to ask for a grant from the government. but, first we may need to get a LFS to sponsor, otherwise we wouldn't look good. maybe we could try a smallish sum of say, $50,000 grant. but, if we wanted that, we might again have a problem. such grants are normally given only on a one-to-one basis, i.e., for every dollar put in by the gahmen, we have to show a dollar spent (cold hard cash) on our side. i am a king writer for requesting such grants. pssst ... even a big drink shop got a couple of hundred thousand because of my contribution ... nevertheless, a good avenue after we have shown some progress ... (stage two i guess) hi bros veliferium and prec that's what i enjoy about collective wisdom ... yes. indeed a superb idea to start small. we must first try our hands on cheap fishy and then we grow to more expensive ones. if that is the case, we will need to pay the reefer for his species tank, PUB, makan, effort and patience. i don't mind coming out with 10 flamey or argi .... for a start. as i said, i am very new in the game, so i am not so qualified to hold the species tank. i don't mind once i am stronger ... hi bro FuEL wow ... so serious. this is just a hobby ... even a ranchu costed several ten of thousands to the keen japanese eyes. right now, fresh water is the darling, as not many are in the marine hobby. so to buy fresh water aro at several thousands of dollars is common even in singapore. so in time to come, marine will be the next darling. people will not care about the plain jane flamey but rather will cheong for its hybrids ... just one thing curious ... so far, US has solved the resplendent breeding but not the rest, shouldn't we try it too how about multi-color or gold flake? lizard
