got flow making devices? got deep sand bed? got sense any electricity leakage? test ur water with a testpen. sometime we cannot feel it unless its tested. it can be Old tank symptom. it can happen even for a 1year tank if water quality is not good. but since u all already did some good water change and cleaning. all you can do now is wait for the tank to stable down more and see how it goes. add bac. -

what equipments ur friend using? skimmer, wavemaker, returns? if ur breath hardly means heavily, then these are my assumption 1) not enough oxygen 2) ammonia and nitrite burns on gills, double check on other brands of testkit 3) disease. fish can be already contacted with disease from the source. ick or white spot are very common in new tank. -

give it more time for the tank to settle. tearing down everything and wash again will do more harm than good in most cases. doze bacteria now and give it more time to stable down in a sense die-off were digested and good guys bacteria propagates. perhaps you can try to pinpoint the source of the problem more. like what kind of sand, rock and water source used. there are many things that cant be measured by conventional means. so careful observation is needed. if giving the rocks, sand, water were all good, then for sure, the initial stage is the most things dying stage. so no need to worry too much. just concentrate on ur patience itself and build up the good guys bacteria. and still, how the fish die might gives some clues as well. all the best. -
for sure, it will help to a certain extend. by theory on cell biology, the more surface area there are, the more bacteria making homes on it. the more rougher and porus the material is, the better it will be. but good bac or bad bac can both colonize it. so how to do selective culturing? that will boils down to ur tank stability and what species of bac u add.

yeah, lets call up jimmy too since he was at suntec in the past.

most conventional aquarium ph controller only can function as one (either dose to up ph or down ph) but is still those ph controller that can function as 2. for this type of controller, there should be 2 power plugs but higher price. ==> pinpoint can control both way. normal aquarium ph controller only have one. or you can use aquarium computer such as aquatronica or profilux etc. they can control both ways as well. so to fulfill what you want: these are the ways available 1) get those ph controller that can function as 2, that wont come cheap. http://www.reefdepot.com.sg/AddProduct.asp?ProdID=1185 2) get 2 single purpose controllers like the one you are look for, weipro 2310. one to control up and one to control down. but this is very dangerous as it involves 2 ph probes which each will give a different reading error. and not very practical. 3) get aquarium conputer. whats your application? normally one is just enough,

think can try petmart. i cant remember which place i seen it. its rather a common piece of equipment in this hobby. btw, dosing CO2 means lowering you ph dosing kalkwasser increase ph but its a double edged sword. if your top-up is screw up or ph controller going nuts, you ph will shoot up high and be prepared to lose some stocks.

just submited my 200 over pages report draft this morning. spent many sleepless night on it and happy its somehow came to an end. for as exam.... its around the corner and fear not for the black face zoa. if we are talking about the same 1, i have some to spare you if yours didnt make it. yeah cultivating bacteria can be regarded as main objective for you now. way to go bro, you are really taking things slowly which is very good.

UV ==> very very useful if you are keeping fish and when your tank is rather new and not mature yet. + ozone ==> very very useful as well. im using both thru out the day, unless i doze bac or vitc, then i off it for a while. my water is always crystal clear from these 2. but some people only for a while each day for other reasons. and depending on your system, bacteria driven system like zeovit etc dun use uv/ozone. my purpose of using these 2 is do keep pathogen or bad bacteria in the water column at bay.

Air-Con System Doubling up as Chiller?
LaW replied to Milch_Tan's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
i heard cases of 1 tank + 1 room for the event, of 3 + 1. it might be taxing even if possible and you will need a high hp compressor. and you will not be using those inverter series for tank. so do consider. -
get the highest range you can spare for the event of misfortune. my skimmer is rated for 320-790 gallons but my net volume is around 260 gallon, my chaeto still growing well. so its really depends on ur load. so far im satisfied with overskimming rather than under or just nicely.

iodine is a crucial for creature that molts. lack of that, and the creatures dies when molting. so take note. all the best for ur next 1.
