  1. Chip on board. Was quoted $30 per 10W LED. Just choose qty, colour, and length of the aluminum stripe, and they will solder everything to your specs. But power supply comes separately, around $50-$80, depending on the wattage you have.
  2. Bought them from bro demonsori just yesterday. But decided to just go ahead with LEDs.. I have not even unwrapped them from the newspaper they came in... Anyone interested to get them at $12 for both? SMS me for quick deal ya.. 94552509.
  3. Can i place 4 - 8 of them (40W - 80W) for a 2' nano? There's a combo of colours. (they do have 12,000k for whites) But I think they may not have UV or Actinic. Question: Are these LEDs good enough for reefkeeping? If so, what combi should I do? Is 3 whites and 3 blues sufficient or overkill? (total 60W) Planning to keep only soft corals and some LPS in my 18" deep nano. 2' length and 1' width. Please advise, as I was almost tempted to customize one just now. I know it may not be considered purely DIY, as someone will be doing the pieceing together of the parts for me.. Lol.
  4. Hur hur.. The water cleared up today, all by itself. Guessed it only needed the extra time for the dust to settle. Anyways, will be taking in the suggestions of water clarifiers to achieve crystal clear viewing conditions when the tank is up and running. Thanks everyone.
  5. Your PT only likes to be photographed on its right face.. Lol.. Anyway ups for you!!
  6. Thanks for the various solutions. Let me do some shopping in the next couple of days. BTW, should I run the skimmer during cycling?
  7. In the midst of cycling. Day 1 I poured in 90L of bottled water to test for leakage and check plumbing. (ios) Day 2 I added salt. SG 1.022. Day 4 I poured in grade 3 sand. Unwashed, cheap sand. This is when I see cloudiness. So I thought, never mind, give it a day or 2, it'll clear up. Day 6 I added 8kgs of live rocks bought from farm. Then added a market prawn after scaping. Today (day 7), the cloudiness got worse. I can see very fine particles in the water. Is this added cloudiness from the decomposing prawn? Do I turn on the skimmer now? (or skimmer should start from when?) Will skimming remove this cloudiness? Note: I only have a piece of filter wool as filtration now.
  8. Hi Santa, this is brilliant! And never a more perfect timing for me than now.. Just starting up a nano 90L (about 24gal). I have an ios at the back of the tank, and have this compartment in the ios which I have not decided what goes in it. This compartment comes before the skimmer. I'm intending to use the bottom "shelf" for this upflow algae scrubber. I have an available vertical space of 4"width by 7"height in this shelf. Water flows through this compartment from top down, at a rate of 1,200L/hr. Question: The downward force of the water flow affects the upward movement (speed) of the air bubbles somewhat. Will this affect the rate of growth of the algae, thus hindering its effectiveness? (as algae may find a more favorable space within the tank to propagate). Thanks.
  9. Hi bro, you reckon the power tripped for how long till you reset? I assumed you staying alone? (from your description). A good UPS may only have sufficient power to last you max 1 hr, sometimes even much shorter. I have seen huge UPS in server rooms, rated to provide power up to 10 hours. However the size of this unit is as big as a regular 3' tank with cabinet setup. Normally we don't have this luxury, nor pockets deep enough to have this at home, dedicated for our fish tank. If there is no warning systems (human or via other remote devices), having a UPS can only buy you this much time. Sorry don't mean to overthrow your theory of the necessity of an UPS, but I feel that the livestocks have the capacity to survive at least 2-4 hrs without electricity to the equipment we have in the aquarium. As long as we can get power back to the system within this time frame, we should not see casualties. So the short supply of electricity an UPS provides is still insufficient if we cannot reset power within the few hours. My 2 cents.
  10. Hi, anyone knows what time these farms open in the morning on weekends and ph? Thinking of doing some liverock shopping tmr early morning, like 8am.. Wonder if they're open this early on a public holiday weekend? Iwarna. Ah Beng's. Is the farm at the roundabout still, erm, around? The uncle next to Ah Beng's? Thanks.
  11. Bro I'm interested if they are 2ft ones? If not, I have to give it a miss. Pardon my ignorance ya..
  12. Haiz.. Just was inexplicably blind when I took the water. I'm too lazy to change the water out now. Now I'll just have to cycle with this water mixed w salt, and do a bigger percentage wc at the end of the cycle.
  13. Is 8ppm good enough for me to add salt in and start cycling? At the end of he cycle I'll then do a 40% water change with the "life" distilled water. Will this work?
  14. Anyone has a tds meter to help me do a test?
  15. I bought 5 cartons. Only after pouring halfway then I realized its "pure". But everyone talking about "Life".. $1.35 for 3 bottles. So I saw it and just grabbed it. Anyone can enlighten? Tks. Now just water inside doing leak test, and checking the schematics of the water turbulence.
  16. It's flowing through. The opening to the baffle is at the bottom. It's really small though, 16cmx14cm. The height is only 12cm for the top compartment, and 15cm for the bottom one. Can't put much rocks lah. Ceramic rings? Coral chips? Btw, what's biohome? I keep hearing this name.
  17. What should I place here in the fist compartment of the ios? Return pump is Eheim 1250, 1,200L/hr.
  18. Yup fully understood I just filled the tank with water and turned on the 1250 return. There were some loose dirt in the pump, causing a small suspension. I was observing the turbulence within the tank. There were indeed some dead spots, definitely needs at least a small powerhead or two. Also observed that the underflow took more volume than the surface flow. So at least I don't have to worry about the volume within the small fence.
  19. Hi, I'm interested in your refractometer, if it is still available. SMS me 94552509. Thanks.
  20. The acrylic fence is 5cm tall. Only intending to use a shallow sand bed of 2-3cm. Not wanting too much sand turbulence, I'll be using bigger sand particles.
