Ah ha!! Why nobody told me this years ago?? I had to try and try to prime the pump after every water change. It really put me off water change then. I was afraid I couldn't get the pump up and running after every wc. Haha.
-
Is it difficult to coordinate 2 taps and the power switch at the same time when you turn the pump on? I was always worried for the pump to be turned on for a second too long without water flow.. Maybe I worry too much.. Hur hur

Share with us your success & stories as you journey into the deep abyss of sps keeping ya. Our tank is of the same specs, I'm definitely interested to see your success. I might be tempted into the dark side in time to come ya.. *evil grin*

Anyway I'm too kiasee to power up my own cable-exposed, AC powered, virgin LED DIY project. So I'll better stick to this method first, where DC comes direct from the power supply. Haha. What's the downside to this method though?
-
Important note if you're using hose / pipes to run Eheim externally. They don't have self priming. That means it can be very difficult to suck up the water from 60cm depth when you start up the pump. I had a tough time years ago whenever I did water change on my 3footer, running the Eheim 1260 just 6" above water.

Oh ok.. But since I bought the power supply and resistor already, I'll try this method first. Ya the 3w led is 660nm.

Thanks for you overwhelmingly fast replies. All taken. -
Hi I bought a big tub of this resin from Madpetz for my DIY water DI unit today. Reckon I won't be using all this up within a few years. Selling at cost. $4.50 per bag of 500ml. I have 4 of these bags. Anyone interested? SMS me 945525zero9

Petmart has the ph7.0 solution in a bottle. Think I bought it at $3 or $5, can't remember, but you can pour out into smaller cups and use a quarter bottle each time.

Just went to SLS this afternoon. Bought some parts for the modification. The rectangular piece is a resistor. Bingo, bro Tropic. Just cost me $1 to get another one. Bought another power supply. 12V 2A to drive the 5 x 3W LEDs. $18 Bought thermal plaster to stick the new chips. Using the entire metal box as a heatsink. Will be commencing this project over this weekend. Hopefully. Will post pics when due.

Yup. I agree with scientist. The Eheim 1250 can fit easily in your ios (mine too), and is much better suited. The compact 1000 is too underpowered for your tank dimensions. The only space constraint u may foresee is the 2ft deep ios. With the 6" width, it may be difficult to clean the bottom portion within the ios. My cabinet is 100cm tall, and I have a hood that raises the overall height by 4". Reaching the sand bed is relatively easy. Only cleaning the ios base gets tough. Otherwise, the dimensions looks great! I got my tank from the buy sell forum. Now I'm really tempted to custom make a new tank, as my current cabinet is ready for a 2ft cube foot print and weight.

Why $300? Do you stay at a very remote part of our island? Or the delivery men needs to climb a hundred steps to reach you? Lol..
-
I reckon a trip to SLS beckons soon. Haha.
-
I hope they harvest the water out from a cleaner region of the sea around our shores. Certainly not from the beach, no?
-
You should never ever fill NSW from the beach, no matter how clean you think the water may be.

"Maybe" means maybe it's a driver, or means maybe can drive 5x3W? Bro, how to confirm the "maybe"? Can I strip apart the rubber tubing and read the specs?
-
Interesting rockscape bro. The snail trail is cute! Good dimensions, your tank. Now I kinda regretted the missing 6" back and height. Mine is only 2'x1.5'x1.5'(H), 6" ios at the back.. Darn!! Feel like upgrading now.. Lol

Kaykay's DIY-approach nano setup. 2'x1.5'x1.5'.

A slight rescape. Just relocated a piece from the right and to make a taller left tower. So a big brother small brother effect achieved. Tank looks more spacious too. Loving it. Regarding the exposed return pump, I'm planning to camouflage it with some gsp, or with the small frag of golden cloves I've reserved with Cedric. Hoping these polyps can conquer the PVC. Haha. My lights are not here yet too. Haiz, i think this is a major reason I don't see coraline algae growth yet. -
Stripped my custom box to take a look inside. What's the long-ish thing connected between the heat sink and the power supply? Is it the driver? If it is, can it drive 5 x 3w led chips? It's currently driving a 1 x 10w LED chip warm white. The front.

Haha, don't we all know.. In fact from post #1, we can already softly predict how popular this thread will turn out to be, can't we? Lol..
