  1. I think the direct comparison with the nac3.5 would be the skimz121, though I'm still hesitant to commit as the dimensions is too close fitting for comfort in my ios compartment. Lol.
  2. Hi Starfish123, I just found out that you are a very young boy. I admire your dedication in this hobby at this young age. This form of dedication will bode you well for your future. How I secretly wish that my daughter, who is just a year younger than you are, shown such maturity and focused drive in sustaining an interest, any interest. Feel free to ask for any assistance here. I know at least for myself, I'll help wherever I can. Thinking back, calling you 'bro' makes me feel funny now. 'Sonny' would be more appropriate.
  3. Lovely! To marry diving, fish- & coral- keeping, and DIYing hobbies all in one project, with a central marine conservationalist theme, you must be having a whale of a time! *2 THUMBS UP.
  4. Prob setting up as office tank. If not, I'll use it as a QT. Both ways don't need chiller ba.
  5. IMO the reinforcements in the interior is only good to support the box. However, once water drips into the particle board on the outside, the board will expand and warp. Ugly, although the structure is still strong with the support inside. I built a cabinet from 25mm plywood. Come take a look later when you're dropping by?
  6. Brand new chiller retail prices usually do not defer much amongst the LFSes. You can browse the buy/sell forum for good value used units if you don't mind 2nd hand.
  7. Yes bro. You definitely can go or an over-spec chiller now. You just need to ensure that an appropriately rated pump is used as the feeder for the chiller. Usually a higher spec chiller will require faster flow. My tank is a 90L nano tank, and I'm currently using a 1/4hp chiller (Hailea 66a). Yes, I'm future-proofing for a bigger tank. Lol. It takes only 10 mins to chiller from 28deg to 27deg. Then it rests for more than 100 mins. I'm using a 1,700L/hr pump to keep the chiller happy. Prior to this I'm using a 1,200L/hr pump and smaller hose fittings, the chiller kicks in for 3 mins every 20 mins. I find this too frequent and fear the chiller life may shorten due to the frequent on/off of the compressor. HTH.
  8. Well I must say that having 4 blue tangs in a nano makes the tank look so surreal. It looks good in fact! - logics aside. Anyway selling the other 3 away can only be good for your tank.. My current 1.5" BT is a sh*t machine. Everyday bomb bomb bomb.. Lol...
  9. I like the piping works too! Brilliant job to use a single pump for 3 purposes. Thumbs up!
  10. Hey bro, if it's superb yet cheap, why is there a need to change?
  11. Bump. Up. My. Post. $35 for both. Anyone?
  12. Thanks bro. But no, thanks. Not looking at hob models. Seriously considering either the nac3.5, or the sm121. One of them is the price of 2 of the other. How how??
  13. Thanks bro. I don't really fancy airstone skimmers. I'm lazy to change the wooden airstone every now and then. Lol. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
  14. Thanks bro. I was searching late last night, and must have been affected by the sleepy eyes. I thought I read 15.7x18cm. Haha. Thanks I'll go AM to take a look this weekend.
  15. Problem solved. I changed all the fittings and hoses to 16/22 sizes. Flow rate is improved. I have even disconnected the 2nd return pump. Now, the chiller is 12 mins on, about 100 mins off. By this timing ratio, the chiller is functioning less per min. Thus electricity $ is minimized.
  16. Oh.. Well.. I wonder if I'll look extremely stupid to buy a similar skimmer to replace the nac 3+ that I sold away.. Haha.. Didn't read many positive reviews on the tunze, and the smallest skimz model is still too big for my ios.. Haiz..
  17. Wow.. Looks like an impressive setup coming up. It's also my kind of dream setup, which unfortunately will require deep pockets to materialize, thus I'm still dreaming about it only. Camping here.. Look forward to your updates.
  18. When I was using the BM nac 3+, it was able to foam properly ONLY under perfect conditions. Whenever I fed, or when I dipped my hands in the water, the foaming stops immediately and micro bubbles crept into the display. Hence, the skimmer stops working for an hour or two every day. Lol.
  19. Ups on a beginning of a long weekend for some of us..
  20. Thanks bro. I was using the 3+, and faced micro bubble problems. Any idea if this skimmer has the same issues?
  21. Any suggestions for an in-sump skimmer that fits a footprint of 14cm x 18cm?
