Finished product. Added a dc fan too. The colored lights!

Good colour combination. Do go slow on your stocking up though. The small tank size leaves us a very thin margin for error. Choose smaller specimens. It's also a great joy to see livestocks grow in our tank. And tangs grow fast!! My current blue tang is bought at 1+" size. She eat like a cow, and within 3 weeks I swear she has grown! She's put on a fair bit of weight now!! Hahaha.. I'm still hunting for 1+" specimens of yellow tang and purple tang, hoping to add these 2 at the same time. I sincerely hope it's not asking too much of the LFSs. Haha. Enjoy this journey.

A very clean and neat looking tank. With your careful planning I'm sure it'll turn up a spectacular model nano reef. Awaiting more pics. Also waiting with eager anticipation to see CF liverocks, after having heard so much about it. Must be really worth the high price. What do you intend to keep in this tank btw?

Placing a filter wool before the inlet will not help. Microbubbles are creating in the skimmer body. Could the chiller inlet pump have drawn the micro-bubbled water at the skimmer outlet compartment and passed it on to the return pump. Could the chiller pump be located at the last compartment of the iOS and outlet directly back to display tank instead?

One side of the chip has a little hole on the pin. Is this side the + or -? Looking at my picture, left or right is "+"?

The power supply is like those old Nokia handphone charger type. One black plastic 3-pin plug, and a DC pin to the light box.

Good idea on the hinge part. Drilling is easy. Just go in slowly, and enjoy the process haha...

DAMA will cut even 1 piece of acrylic for us. The drilling is the project they may or may not do. The price, if they do, is quite steep per hole too.

Kaykay's DIY-approach nano setup. 2'x1.5'x1.5'.

Are you referring to my DIY lights? It's a stick-on with 3M mounting tape. As its sticking on the aquawasher LED set, it tends to not stick very well. I tied a pc of fishing line to hold it more firmly in place. Not hot at all. Bright enough to catch hanky panky red handedly. Have not used long enough to say it can be long lasting or not. If you're talking about the Arcadia one, let John answer ya.. -

I was looking at Arcadia too. Looked and looked. It scored 9.5 / 10 haha.. The 0.5 imperfection was for the rubber sucker (I never liked suckers ;p), and the way it'll take up 4 sq inches of my invaluable tank top space. So a LED strip that does not take up any space at all, and one that allows flexibility of placement and resizing, scored 9.9. The choice is clear. -

I believe can split. I bought a connector with screw connection, so can fix 2"+" & 2"-" cables to one power supply. Just need to get the appropriate amp. I don't think can dim though. 3 chips $4. 6 chips $6. 9 chips $8. Connector $2. Power supply $16 - $18. The brightness of 9 chips. -

On your 24 x 3W? Sure. But must wait next few days I go SLS first. You need how many chips? 3, 6, 9, or 12? You need 12v DC power supply too? -

DIY Project 5 - Moonlights! After installing the new LED lights, I used a 3-way timer to control on / off, trying to simulate sunrise, high noon, and sunset. But this timer, the manual override, is full-on & full-off. So if I want to check stuff in the tank after lights off, the full blast of lights usually scared the livestocks and made them jump. Then an idea struck me. Moonlights. Went shopping for one. None fits my ideals, even though they're only $20+. Just then, I also find 2 units too obstructing for my 1' wide display tank, therefore I decided to hang the lights. Went to buy a strip of cabinet lights (blue) from SLS. pondering over 3 LEDs, 6, or 9. In the end decided on 9 LEDs. ( kinda regretted as I found it too bright for a moonlight). Anyway I'll be cutting 3 pcs of the LEDs away tonight to make it less bright. Mounted the LED strip on the washers, and this is how it looks. Full moon on kaykay's reef. -

Update - 3rd July 2012 Received new lights from a bulk purchase. Eshine LEDs. 2 units of Aquawahers 10x3W each. Before (old lights) After (new lights) Fishes are loving it. Corals are loving it. I'm loving it. -
Sounds like a case of contaminated contents in the bottled food. I haven't used the 5-in-1 for a long time, but the bottle I bought previously had a seal. Don't recall it's black color too.. Condolences.. Do run some activated carbon now to detox the tank..

Mini reef tank fit for a mad scientist
kaykay replied to MadScientist's topic in Members Tank & Specs
How about an overflow box? Get an over-over-oversized overflow box. Sort of like an external ios.. Make sure to prop this box up properly. Such big volume will be a big strain on the nano tank glass..
