It is best to place the fish in a quarantine tank if it is sick, I would not advise on dosing copper to the whole display tank, as copper is rather deadly to inverts. Furthermore, live rocks and sand will absorb the copper too.

Yo. Think ya can use a 8watt clip on light for ya cheato at ya refugium, would not contribute much to the heat, I know some bros out there used that. :D

Upzzz. Pods is always good.

topping up using ntuc distilled water
Ah-lim replied to chercm's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I have been using distill water, I think its from polar too. I double check with them and was told that there is no chlorine or chloride content. So far so good. -
I'm currently looking into NW-200 . ANyone has any experience using them? Thanks.

Thanks for the tip dude. I follow ya advise... Lol, my tang eating cheato now. Guess its best to introduce them new food during quarantine time.

Any updates from LCK ? -
Went there the other day, fishes there was nice, juz that the journey a bit far since I'm not driving. Prefer Pasir ris as 1 straight bus. Now sourcing for a stand to put my quarantine tank....
-
Hi pple, I juz wonder, how to you train a tang to take vaious type of food? If its in the main tank, how to you let them take pellets, nori etc. Mine only take red bamboo now, lol.
-
Btw, I checked hardware shop , but cannot find baking soda. Where to ya guys buy from? Thanks.
-
normally buy from fellow reefers. So far, me have not seen it in LFS.
-
Blue tang bought from Ah beng there. Very healthy, feasting on bamboo algae right now. I quaratine it for a week to check for any signs of ich etc, but i think fellow reefers will quarantine it longer, the longer the better. 2-3 weeks. The LFS standard also very important, some fishes might look good at LFS but once due to the stress in transpoting the fishes, you will see all sickness appear. I learnt the hard way, but from ermmm...some lfs, the fish haven't reach hm, all the illness come out le. Still prefer ah beng and aquamarin. Regarding corals, guess the rest of the guys can help you with. Me do not hav much knowledge in that.

I would never get damsel fishes [except clowns] as they are too aggressive.... Plan for the future.
-
Wow. The big one is up. More photos !
-
Haha, no lah, I bought the english version. Juz bought a blue tang last week, More to come. How's yours? any photo? new fish ?
-
Sorry for the broken england... Okay, basically, there is 2 type of reading from Salifert's Nitrate testkit. Medium Range Place the test Vial on the white part of the color chart and compare colors from the TOP. If the color corresponds to a calue lower tha 10mg/L Nitrate, use the low range method. Low Range Method. <for reading less then 10mg/L> The color comparison is done by looking through the SIDE of the test vial. Divide the readings by 10 , 50 will become 5 etc.
-
If I'm not wrong, For the salifert nitrate testkit. Add 1 ml of water into test tube. Add Powder A with the blue spoon, press against the wall of the container. Add Powder B, same amount as A and swirl. [not shake] Rest solution for 5 mins and view results. If Reading less than 10, view from the side and divide by 10. [if I remember correctly...] Salifert one more accurate.

Is anyone going pasir ris farmway tml? Hitch a ride at the bus stop beside the factory? :D -
Test 2. More result after initial testing. Revert back to putting two gutter. Further tests had shown that it indeed produce more bubbles. But the qn lies. Which is more important, the uniformity of the bubbles or the amount? The ultimate aim is less water , more air intake. Since Icannot adjust the air intake...I produce more bubble then. Final verdict, run on 2 gutter wheel. Shall see the skimate tml.
-
More testing done with the Macro skimmer mod. Verdict. 1.The gutter mod do add more bubbles to the chamber. 2.However, the rate of bubble produce is not uniform. This results in the irregular rising of the bubbles to the collection cup. Sometime fast, sometimes slightly faster... 3. More bubbles but less uniform rise = bubble rised up slow. Solution. 1. Original needlewheel's spoke must be cut. [Which is not done, no spare spoke around] This should ensure water to flow more smoothly, reducing irregular pattern. 2. 2 gutter wheel perform better than 3, guess more isn't always better. Key is to find the correct no. of layer. 3. This is not a reef octopus skimmer. Haha Final verdict, After testing, I switch back to the un-mod version as the bubble rised more uniformly . Unless I get my hand on another Needlewheel spoke, then more testing could be done.

Hi, Thanks for your reply, it has been a great help ! I will remove my live rock from the quarantine tank, as the sole purpose of them is a form of biological filtration, guess a simple skimmer will be a better alternative. Regarding Cupramine, it is a copper based medication. Would prolong exposure to it has any negative effect to the fishes? For example, 1 mouth or 2 with cupramine even though there isn't any signs of ich? According to seachem, cupramine can be easily remove through the use of carbon. Oh, is there a test kit in the market for copper? Btw, for those using Cupramine, various brands of amonia testkit will show a very high reading. Not to be alarm , as there is a compound which is very similar to amonia in the Cupramine, but not dangerous to fishes.
-
Hi, I am very interested in your quarantine tank set up. Can you briefly tell me how is yours set up? Thanks a million. Mine is only 1 live rock and 1 sponge filter. However, I hav heard people saying to omit the liverock in the quarantine tank and put in other forms of stuff for the fish to hide, such as pvc pipe. Is it because of harmful bateria that might make live rocks their home?

I have no idea, and its nitrite not nitrate loh, more deadly. Probably an isolated case, but since the search function in reef central is disable, I cannot search for you and justify the issue. Anyway, It is gerenally safe and there have been alot of users. Juz that....visual appeal = 0 . Haha, 1 ugly bucket. Btw, DSB takes quite long to kick in......so ermm...oh well...
