Calling all zoas keepers~
MarcoVan replied to peacemaker's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
I think they can. Best is to add a natural predator like a yellow wrasse and do FW dips. -
Thanks! It's really BRIGHT! now I cannot look elsewhere after looking at my tank without resting my eyes! haha It's THAT good!
-
bro (: Your MH is thumbs upzz!

Dear all, I'm selling off the above at $30. Condition is 4/10 because of a noisy magnetic ballast, some dust and rust. Other than that, it is good to go. Testing available, arrangement for delivery can be done. Just let me know where to drop the stuff. Technically this is a 3rd hand deal. I bought this set over from bro. Mellow. So no obligation to buy after viewing. Also, I'm giving away 2/3 small frags of zoas FOC together. Reason is because I got tired of keeping so many zoas, and only wish to have some pretty ones around. So do not expect fantastic colours from them (: PM/call if interested. for reading.

haha, what you are referring to are actually the oxides and hydroxides of non metals. Yeah, they are acidic because of the high oxidising nature of non metals. But to get HCL, you cannot get it from dissolving chlorine gas with water. Imagine that happening in your bleaching agent (: Get the picture? So to get HCL, chemists do electrolysis on sodium chloride solution (dissolved in water) then volia, you get chlorine gas still and HCL. So yeap, all these can be found in JC chemistry which is actually a whole new world from secondary school. You will also learn why chlorine will rather exist as a gas and not dissolve easily in water and why chloride ions are freely abundant in the water and why they bond readily with sodium and not hydrogen in ocean water and many more stuff (: all which are something to do with their bonds, the the shape of the electrons' cloud, electron affinities, the s d p electron distribution aka Markovnikoff's principle etc (: which again is all in JC Chemistry. Anyway why are we talking about chlorine?! LOL back to bro's vlamingi's tank! Paiseh bro!.

Deltec MCE-300 protein skimmer... Better so far...

Just get mce300 lah. Period. haha (: -
haha omg. chemistry lesson. chlorine elemental is acidic? I don't know about that alr haha, just know that it is Grp 7 element and also never for chlorine to exist in that form in our atmosphere. If you happen to come across JC level chemistry which I totally suck in it because of the high level of memory work required, you will understand why in atmosphere, chlorine is found as CL2(g) and not HCL(aq). The most common chloride found is Sodium Chloride, also known as common salt! Anyway, I forgot to add something in my previous post. I forgot to say the amount of chlorine to use is minimal. Maybe one capful or 2 capful is enough and mix with a big volume of water. And to add on, these are the steps to take for using chlorine: 1) Pour some chlorine into a pail (amount as prescribed above or what you prefer 2) Dilute them with a lot of tapwater 3) Put in your equipment 4) Watch the algae, scum and rubbish rot off your glass and acrylics within a few hours 5) Wash and rinse off the chlorinated water and your equipments 6) Pour alot of vinegar into the same pail 7) Put your equipments back into the same pail and dilute with water 8) Let everything stand overnight 9) Dry and be ready to use them again (: Cheers (:

Deltec MCE-300 protein skimmer... Better so far...
MarcoVan replied to Vlamingi_cont's topic in Product Reviews
well it depends on how much stuff and food you put into the tank luh. same logic as how much you eat is how much you put out mah (: and for the 2nd gen mce300 which our bro vlamingi cont is using, it is easier to clean. if you have seen mine which is the 1st gen, you will confirm swear at it. Similarly, bro markietan is also using the 1st gen skimmer (: Cheers -
OMG! Actually bro, for the benefit of the doubt in case someone else has not told you so, I share with you that the best way to remove chlorine if you have contaminated your marine equipments with it is to use vinegar! which of course is an acid. So acid plus alkali will result in neutralisation to give salt, water and gas. Chlorine gas is easily removed from the water by adding air bubbles to the solution or allowing the solution to stand overnight. When all's done, you have something clean and reusable. And trust me on this, I have used chlorine to clean my equipments ever since a very close friend of mine taught me so 4 years ago. So since good things must be passed on, so let you and everyone know about this (: Hope this helps you next time (: Cheers. P.S: And if you are afraid that the vinegar is not strong to neutralise the alkali, just dump an entire bottle into it after mixing the chlorine with a lot of water and allow the reaction to stand for a few hours. One bottle of household/cooking vinegar costs around $1. So, if kiasu, dump 2 bottles in luh (: CHeers.

hey, I think you cannot live with cleaning the mce300 twice a year. The amount of junk it can produce is exorbident! :S I clean mine every fortnight. If I do not, the junk on the sides of the skimmer will fall back into the water stream and affect the overall skimming. Just my 2 cents. -
And if you want to see it, I can open my office to let you in to see. Let me know. Cheers (:

Go for maximas. I find squamosas growing too fast for my liking :S anyway my tank is a 1 foot cube (:

well, I dipped all my frags in iodine and FW before transferring. After that was all left for my wrasse to deal with them. And I guess that did the job pretty well (: If you are unable to, let me know. I am swinging by Irwana to get water tmr. Maybe can grab one wrasse for you. Hmm, where you stay bro? (: -

hmm, that's hard to predict or estimate bro. I have transferred most of my zoas from my 1 footer to my 1.5 footer but somehow once in a while I still see nudis on the glass walls of my 1 footer. Anyway how bad is the situation and have you thrown in a yellow wrasse? Ah Beng has alot of them as of last weekend (: -

I think very hard to kill the eggs with FW dip. somehow after the dip, I still see the eggs etched to my polyps. SO well, manually remove them luh, but have to be cautious not to break the sack else all the eggs sprewed over the other polyps then more trouble to the job anyway I do notice my yellow wrasse pecking on their eggs. Any experience? And as much as we are concerned about looking for the eggs on the zoas' polyps, pay attention to your glass walls too. I have spotted them on it before and I mean ALOT of it! :S Nonetheless, where can i get Flatworm Exit? Marc -

Yeah zoa pox won't spread bro, and all the best with the yellow wrasse. Anything you need just let me know, since I am always on the road (: peacemaker: paiseh, there are still 2 yellow wrasses left at Ah Beng. I bought one earlier today. Hope you can get one for your tank soon (: All the best! (: Marc -
hmm anyway, if it's a good deal, let me know luh bro. not necessary to be <$10 (:
-
bro, count me in also if less than $10 per 100g.

Forgot to add, on top of my freshwater, I add 10 drops of Lugols from Julian Sprung Con.Iodine Solution to roughly 500ml of freshwater. After that everything's SOP. After a while, you should be able to find dead nudis floating on your water surface (: Anyway, Ah Beng has some stock of green wrasses. Heard that they are like yellow wrasses, work well against nudis. SPS-keepers should be quite familiar with them as they battle nudis on their precious montis. Nonetheless, I'll give you a heads up if I spot any yellow wrasses in Ah Beng. They go at rather cheap prices (: Cheers and may you be able to savour the final victory (: -
wow bro, where did you get the zoas from? and the yashia from CF at what price?

For me, a yellow wrasse did the job (: and I do agree on FW dip and for myself, I will put on my led headlamp and inspect any egg/nudi that is still possibly spared from the dip. They are easy to spot with a white led lamp so yeah, after that remove them and put them back into your tank. SO far SO good (: -
It depends on where you are coming from. Personally I come from Kranji side. So first thing is to find Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve which's on your right side coming from Kranji side, after finding that, stick on the same road and head up. It's a straight and direct road up to LCK201 which will end up on your right. The landmark is a red and white striped tower and an arowana farm beside it (: Otherwise, tell me when you are going. I drive you in (:
