    The technology about drilling hole in roof to utilize sunlight is done by this company in US. http://www.solatube.com Can look into it. Personally I don't know whether sunlight by reflection is good enough to use for keeping reef.     You put a lower temp is to generally provide higher oxygenation level in captive environment for your animals. Also a lower temp gives you some buffer against cases of power failures.
