  1. Just use dymax vortex fan. Chiller is not a must have for nano unless you're planning to venture further with your 34L in delicate coral species. Moreover you can replace evaporated water with kalk when you are using fan. It'll save you a great deal of cash on calcium supplements.
  2. I dosed iodide into my last tank. Not bad, all softies pui pui. Dosage was like one drop a week. I'll be dosing iodide for my current tank too. Will let you know what I find.
  3. You can invest in a fan and an auto top up to help with the evaporation.
  4. I wonder if the newcomers read this thread. hmmm..
  5. With your colonies and crocea I think kalk wont help. Good one to go with dosing but like jxlex says go with a dosing pump. I tried manual dosing before. Trust me its v hard to hit the sweet spot. I ended up throwing powder into sump and f care because of the hasssle of hoping to find the sweet spot.
  6. And not forgetting kalk removes some phosphate while vinegar is a source of carbon dosing. 1 serving above can easily last you a week or more depending on your dosing methods. and at best the cost price maybe $0.005? Also if you dose CaCl only dont forget to measure up your kh and mag levels. They will 'run' if you dose CaCl alone.
  7. Alternatively I'll just dose kalk mixed with vinegar (1 tsp with 15ml vinegar ratio) every other night. Cheap, easy to install/diy and hassle free
  8. What you keep in your tank? any big sps? 5" clams? If 10ppm is due to just coralline algae, then I wont recommend dosing just for visual aspect. Anyway fyi lps consume v little calcium. 10% water change? good regime but whats the volume are we looking at?
  9. I wont recommend dosing unless your tank is going to be brimming with sps. Nothing to consume the calcium so only to cause you more money and don't forget, chloride ions lower salinity if if overdose. So little benefits, I'll rather go change water till the day comes when wc cannot upkeep the consumption then I'll start dosing.
  10. Ok. Sorry for your loss. If needed, maybe invest in a good live rock and put in your tank. More surface area for additional bacteria to thrive and work on your excess nutrients.
  11. Sorry for your loss. Dump lots of carbon into your tank. Major water changes might not be appreciated but will be advised to change some.
  12. So at end of day, it's not about feeling intimidated by these people but the feeling of unable to get what you want and start accusing some folks who are absolute harmless and blame them for your demise? I hope my humble understanding did not miss your point.
  13. Just an observation to the users, do you notice any increase in skimmate in your skimmer throughout the process of this bio cubes? In my understanding, if the cubes do indeed breed good bacteria or utilise yeast to discard nitrate, their by products should go somewhere right? And now its mentioned and understood that the cubes dissolve after some time, where did all these yeasts and nitrate go?
  14. Canister you might want to invest in those eheim gate valves and good bio filtration media like siporax or bio home. Open up the canister to clean it up once a while. Invest in good liverocks as well.
