  1. This is one of the craziest statement I have heard...!!!! Some one once told me this.... Smart people learn from others mistakes... The Average gets to make some before learning... Idiots jus dun seem to get it..... even after much advice.... Been tryin real hard to figure which category you are in.... Come on man, We are not stopping you from keeping them... What WE ARE STRONGLY PUTTING ACROSS INTO THAT HEAD OF YOURS is simply this..... Read up and prepare yourself, listen to the few reefers who have been successful, heard from them..... And you should soon join them.... and I really think you need to put a check on that crazy attitude of yours...
  2. Hi Guys, Releasing my 1.25 HP Titanium coil Hailea Chiller at $900 ... Been with me for about a year. Chiller has also been given a thorough checkup and serviced by our very own Dr Chill.... Please PM me if you are interested....
  3. do let me know if you are keen in selling the nozzle... been lookin high and low for one to complete my Dual beckett Skimmer... (my first huge skimmer...)
  4. THe actual Deltec.... Looks good...
  5. This is excellent... A DIYed Deltec... If I'm not wrong, think Maxima, Alvy are also planning some form of DIY for the above mentioned Skimmer... Excellent.....
  6. Woah... way cool... Do keep us updated.....
  7. Hi Guys, As above.... in view of my downgrading so reckon a 6060 would be a better choice for water circulation... Conditions : The 6060 must be in working condition and rather new .... For those with used 6060s, .. topping up with "any equipment or livestock of interest to me" to justified the trade/swop would be good.... Please PM me details...
  8. A alternative to check valves is the drilling of a hole in the return PVC pipe... this would break the siphon whenever there is a failure in power or pump... But you have to ensure that when the pump is running, the drilled hole to be below the water level..... or else you be having bubbles introduced into your reef...
  9. Thats really good information... Like the wing nut and bolt setup.... Will make maintenance so much easier ....
  10. Hmmm... maybe a little bit of explaination would help here... don't understand why there isn't any CACO3 build up since clacification takes place....
  11. Hi Sunny, If you have spent some time here reading up, you will realise that as the temperature of the bulb goes up , the bulb gets dimmer and so does the PAR..... I think we recently have quite a number of such threads ..... Do a search and you would have your doubts clarified.....
  12. Yap, similar thoughts here since there are hard corals which do not rely on photosythesis for survival.... so they somehow must have acquired the growth rates from somewhere??? Ever since the introduction of SPS into SGreef, many reefers have strongly mentioned the benefits and requirement of strong lightings, leading reefers to believe that corals only perform calcification during photoperiod.... another question would also be .... Is the rate of calcification reduced during non photoperiod?? Anyone out ther can help put some light here???
  13. Hi Guys, I would have to change the sales of my liverocks to the weekends... I really need time for the transferring of my SPS into my 4 footer holding reef and make other neccessary arrangements.... this would take some time... For those reefers who have PMed me showing interest in the liverocks, please ensure that you get hold of my contact so that arrangements could be made..... I won't be able to contact reefers who have left their numbers or have requested for me to contact them via PMs/SMS ....... It would be better that prior arrangements be made on Thursday and Fridays ... please state the time and quantity you require so that the process of liverocks sales would go smoothly..... Cheers
  14. That is defintiely one expensive gauge to get... Frankly, do we really have to get such kind for reef aquariums??? I'm currently using those $60 kind with one gauge.... works fine with me.... IMO, wouldn't it be better jus to focus that kind of cash on a proper needle valve which would give you a better feel and control over your CO2 output to CR..... And Yes.... getting CO2 leak proof tubings are important.....
  15. Darn, I think I have been missin out too much on farm and LFS visitation.... The Yashias are common??? Cos if they are, I would like to acquire another 2 specimens for my reef.....
  16. Hi Advanced Reefers , We were having a discussion regards the validity of CO2 cylinders when a point by a fellow reefer was brought up and that is the usage of timers to stop the input of CO2 feeding Calcium Reactors... esp when pH of the main reef is low.... eg during lights out period... That brought up a question and that is does Hard corals (SPS) perform calcification during lights off?? Is the requirement of light neccessary for calcification or is the lights neccesary to provide the food to sustain the hard corals and at the same time allow the corals the energy for development..... Please advise.....
  17. Hmmm... thats true .... but you would have to determine whether when the PH is low... Question, do Corals perform calcification without lights??? Another issue is how you are gonna maintain a consistent Calcium/dkH levels since there is a timer there to determine how much CO2 gets pumped in ......??? I think a better bet would be the installing of a 2nd chamber to neutralise the low PH..... that would be much more feasible.....
  18. The solenoid valve would be useless unless you have a PH controller... You would also need to position the probe to register the pH of the effluent.... Unless your CR has a orifice to place the probe so as to test the chamber pH...
  19. *cough* *cough*.... ehhhh....*Ah Choo*... I'm down with Reef Flu..... Will try to get some of the materials asap so that this could be done... The difficult part is to get the Beckett Nozzle.....
  20. That would be real cool.... One issue though..... something that large would require a huge volume of water ...... Ever thought of what would happen if the pump that drives your current Alvy foamer would to fail??? So imagine something even bigger....
  21. Hi Guys, I might be going crazy cos the thought of having a huge Dual Beckett monster as a skimmer has been playing on my mind... I was thinking of something thats min 4 feet and above in height able to be torn apart into 4 - 5 extension skimmer chambers....plus a really huge skimmer cup.... Was thinking of using a 190/200mm ID/OD acrylic tubing for skimmer chamber....
  22. Outstanding growth you have there... I will be expectin to see more pictures of SPS growth rates here since many of the local reefers here have acquired better husbandry skills and knowledge..... and of course better equipment and livestock....
  23. Used to have 2 of this Yashia White Rays with me.... And its great watching it develop a relationship with some of the pistols in my reef.... only issue is that within months ... they disappeared..... (think its the darn crabs ion my reef) Aprt from being torn apart by pests, don't really consider them difficult to keep as they take readily to froxen food stuffs.... like the way they hover in mid water waiting for floating pieces of mysis to pass by them... IMO, shrimps like such are only of much good in Nano and smaller reefs.... its easier to spot them.... they also tend to develop a liking to certain locations where they would stay and only wonder mere distances to get their feed.... For those who are keen to acquire such specimens, think it would be better if you seek the more prominent LFS out and get them to bring in such specimens for you as I noticed that only a few of such have been spotted so far in LFS and many times in small quantities.... I got my pair from SeaLife....
  24. Hi to all SPS maniacs.... Its time to showcase some growth rates of your SPS frags and colonies.... Since most of you serious SPS guys are going into mush stronger lightings.... feeding regiments and "way out of world" sizing Calcium Reactors..... So its only appropriate that a thread be allocated to show the fruit of your labour and depleted finances ......... I will start with some pictures.... This is a picture of a hot pink frag thats jus startin to encrust onto its foothold... This is it 3 months later as on Nov 2003 will try to get a shot of a curent picture of this specimen..... Now who's next????
  25. They sure look good... and at a good sizing too.. Now jus waiting for the Evansi thats suppose to appear in Paradiz Reef 1-2 weeks later....
