"Denitrification" bacteria is what you will be looking for. In reefing applications, go for either DSB (deep sand bed), RDSB (remote deep sand bed) or large amount of porous liverocks. All these would be good "homes" for the required bacteria to proliferate. You can alternatively opt for denitrators to solve the nitrate issue.

Try cleaning the injector. it is just a plastic piece which can be split open and the internal rinsed. And when you are done with it, will function like its a new unit. HTH
