  1. I'm thinking of placing my chiller somewhere else...... still wondering where.... The usage of 1 MH and lower water volume should lower the chiller running time ... that alone is a "plus" factor
  2. It a "financial", "space" and also "heat" issue.......
  3. Heh... If you have seen my room... you will defintiely understand.... Ever perspire while viewing a reef????
  4. a 2.5 bu 2.5 reef is only half of what I'm having now... The best part is the utilisation of only one MH..... Wahahahahaaaa... Thinking about this is already causing a wide smile on my face...
  5. Hi Guys, This are plans for my new reef tank… Most probably sticking to a 2.5 square foot with either a 1.5 or 2 foot high reef… with a 6 by 6 inches overflow…. A output of 1.5” and 2 inputs of ½ inches…. Will be heading for a reef located at the corner of my room with 2 angled views …. Employing 10 mm glass… with eurobracing on the top and bottom… The 2 front glass might be Starppire or low iron content glass…. Reef would have a 16 inches high canopy housing a 250 W SE MH .(DIYed) with a extra large Parabolic reflector… built to assist in proper spreading of lightsource.. Cabinet would be 3 feet high …. As space beneath the cabinet is minimal… will be allocating sump and chiller externally…. All other equipments like Calcium reactors, Kalk reactors and top up reservoirs would be allocated under the cabinet….
  6. Planetg, Chanbi is right regarding this.... do your measurements properly.... and give some allowances cos you might end up with the ideal sump setup without the ideal pump...
  7. Do consider properly.... a large reservoir or large water top up container would be something that you would appreciate in the long run.... esp if you travel often or simpy a forgetful person... I personally went for a really large reservoir.... can go as long as 3 -4 weeks before I'm required to top up...
  8. Frankly, I dun see the point of employing a top up reservoir if in the first place that reservoir is small...... You jus end up topping up the reservoir as often as you do so to the sump..... Guess you jus have to find a space to house a larger container.... and from your diagram, you seem to have your chiller placed else where... ever thought of placing your reservoir else where too???
  9. Yes, pls do.... I'm also in need of one.... thinking of moving my 5 footer still gives me a creeps... Still remember how 5 reefers tried moving my reef up onto my chengai wood stand...... very "siong ah"
  10. Why would you wanna do that?? YOu mentioned that your cabinet height is 36"... and from your layout, think you gonna have some trouble if you need to meddle with them.... I recommend that you place them out of the sump... so that chores like topping up kalk..., adjustment of CO2 feed ... cleaning of skimmer cup can be done easily..... Split the output of the pump into 2 (one for chiller and the other to return...) for the sump recommend you do a tee from the mains with a ball valve controlling the amount into the refugium.... Let your returns be made into good use..... Notice your reservoir is a little small.... 2 choices... either have a large top up water container... or ensure a larger reservoir..... less maintenance... Feed the chiller returns into main tank direct.....
  11. Not all..... some.... And I have to figure out how to weight them..... I should have more than 100 kg currently...
  12. Do consider ...... I still think rock racks are the way to go.... Buy less liverocks then.... cos there are other reefers who wants them..... Racks are easy to do....... And the benefits with racks are plenty......
  13. I recommend a rock rack.... the advantages they give are plentiful compared to jus stcking them onto the sand bed.... and you get to buy less liverocks... save cash cos you will need alot once your reef is cycled....
  14. Hi Terry, but... Before you dump those sand in..... Are you doing a rock rack first??? Putting a rock rack after the sand is in is not a good idea....
  15. Maybe you like to state some observations regards the 2 different bulbs... So jus in case reefers here might have some idea what they are getting if they venture into some AB bulbs....
  16. How large is the C10002??? One 50lbs bag can't fill it???? WOW, that is definitely one darn large reactor that you have there...
  17. Hey Hon, That's one cool looking reef you have there... Jus curious, are you still with the 250W DE BLV 10kks??? Or have you switched to the Aqualine 13kk bulbs???
  18. Robe, the concern of aquascaping space did came across my mind... But I'm really determined to only cater to one MH and I reckon that the best coverage in regards to area is the max of a 2.5 by 2.5 footprint.... of course with a well made reflector....
  19. If I can have your place, might consider.... But current plans is to try aquascape a 2.5 by 2.5 by 1.5 ft reef... Felt that a shallow reef would look better... Gonna go with low bioload so will not be employing a DSB.... ANd if this works out... and if "heat" is not a issue, then might jus do another one.....
  20. To those reefers who have PM me regarding the tricolour frags... please SMS me to confirm asap... I have only 5 pieces of small frags and 1 large piece.... Thanks
  21. Thank you guys for the tremendous response .... All items have been reserved.....
  22. Could I say that its small to medium.... Pricing them from $50 for single cap on LR to $70 for Dual cap on LR...
  23. No pics at the moment... But Clowntrigger did previously post some pics of the Montipora Cap in his reef..... That was a specimen from me..... AT has some too...... They are dark orangy coloured.....
  24. Yup..... thinking of building a slightly larger parabolic refelector for this reef..... and placed slight higher about 10 to 12 inches... The shallow reef would also help in getting the lights to the SPS... Sand bed would be covered with ricordeas..... For bulbs..... might consider the 14kk Hamilton.... the AquaBlue line bulbs would be appropriate too..... Maybe a Ushio Blue....
  25. Hi Guys, Due to my downgrading event, I have some SPS that I intend to sell off..... only reason to sell them is because they have encrusted onto pretty large pieces of liverocks and therefore not feasible for my soon to be smaller reef..... Pieces available are a large piece of liverock with 2 colonies (well encrusted) Tricolour acropora.... and also a large piece of flat LR with 2 pieces of Orange Montipora Cap and some smaller frags attached..... 2 more pieces of LR with Orange Montipora Caps.... One rock with blue tip acro and a rock with pavona and some brown acro frags (encrusted)... PM me or post on this thread if you guys are interested.....
