Hi Reefers, Jus placed/fragged half of my reef's SPS colonies and placed them into a holding reef as my reef migrating process.... Noticed a few of my colonies havinf much of their bottoms with tissue recession.... not RTN... Much areas have turned white..... leaving only their CACO3 skeletons in view ..... think we did cover a discussion on this before before a major crash had such info removed.... So anyone out there to help with this problem??? esp those with reefs crammed with such....

Yes, I'm interested in that bulb except its not available in mogrul base.... Never like DE versions as my setup is DIYed..... and dun wanna go thru the hassle in getting tempered glass..... Next factor would be of course the pricing.....
-
Nope, currently with BLVs on magnetic ballast... Has been good so far exccept for the yellowish tinge asscoiate with the 10kk BLV bulbs.... been trying to get rid of that yellowish look but could only do it with actinic supplementation..... now... it seems like the CV bulb could be the answer ... without additional cost for supplementation..... Guess I'm still trying to find a bulb that fits my liking... have tried out Bluelines, Ushio Blues, Sakis and BLVs.... BLVs so far been giving me pretty good results....

There's a thread done By a reefer in RC on the various 250W bulbs... think I placed the link in previous posting... Its seems that the results are pretty interesting when the CV bulbs are linked to their Eballast.... better results in the PAR..... Well... the pricing does seems attractive though....

Roidan, Are those threadfins Anthias??? or purple queens...??

HI Guys, Read that there's a some bulbs available branded as Coralvue bulbs... pretty interested in their 10kk bulbs which according to RC, burns much whiter compared to the BLVs 250s... As a bulb change for my lightings is on the way, seriously thinking of these bulbs as a alternative.... anyone??? http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...hlight=coralvue Notice that the CV 250W burns whiter compared to the 250W BLV from the pics......

You won't need a Calcium Reactor.... The initial cost to getting one is high... Use the money for better equipment........

Cookie, If you are looking for a frag to test if they colour up under 150Ws.. let me know..... I can hand you a piece of tricolour as mentioned in previous posting.... PM or SMS me.... Cheers.... always great to have another reefer into SPS....
-
One point to add..... SPS do dull up when placed into different light intensity..... and would take time to colour again... IME, I have SPS placed into different locations of my reef.... if the distance from the bulb is substantial, they brown up...... it would take a few weeks for them to return to the original colouration expected.... sometimes they develop different hues and remain that way..... My current batch of Tricolour colony which have produced frags many which are in other reefers system with similar configuration lightings dun normally appear the way I have them in my reef.... colouration do varies.........

Thanks Clowntrigger, But think theres gonna be a issue with floor space.... Most probably settling with selling some away till jus enough to fit into my holding reef.... guess my new reef jus have to settle for frags instead of colonies... will keep a few frags of each of my prized colonies for my future reef ......

Hi Guys, Was going through some planning for my 2.5 sq foot reef (something that I can jus keep dreaming on till I remove my 5 footer), was thinking of a reef placed in the corner of my room with rockwalls type of stacking by both sides.... leaving a really large space of sandbed in the centre to front (good for clams, rics and buttons......) will stick to acro frags epoxied onto the rockwall and wait for them to grow out....... BTW, might also be thinking of adding some T5s to the single 250W SE configuration..... Utilising one Stream 6080.....(plan to build fixture to hide it).... what do you guys think???

Update... Snails reserved.....
-
Dun believe in trying..... when it comes to livestock... spend more time in the SPS and advanced Reefers forum, readup and ask lots of questions.... get your system up to standard as told by the senior guys... then you would not need to try... you will most probably be successful...
-
give it some more time and you should be seeing yellows too.....
-
yup.... and those frags (one of them in your reef now)....
-
Just to add on, Some Staghorn frags have been made available.... esp for those who have shown interest in them during last sales...

Hi Guys, My current holding reef is way too small for my acros... thinkin of getting those huge tubs to house them... but think gonna have some problems with the hanging of MH lights... Any ideas??
-
Hahahaaaa.... Joe's juice.... Reminds me of a joke ..... Think I will stick to a CB....., But that is after I transfer my acros into my holding tank....

Hi Guys, Noticed that there is a outbreak of aiptasias in my reef so was really thinking of getting a copperband to place in my reef... Now a few questions.... 1) will they go after the polyps of my SPS??? 2) what size of copperband should I go for?? 3) Besides aiptasias, what else will they consume...?? I'm considering getting one by this weekend..... Thanks Guys....
-
I like the way how your friend build this, esp the overflow compartment which hides the Streams..... like the idea very much.... gives the reef a very "natural" look without any "artificial" objects hanging around....
-
Thought of using those 13 mm PVCs but how you gonna balance them??? unless you are referring to endcaps....?? Have you consider those small ceramic tiles..... think they come in 1 square inch sizings... and should have substantial weight to hold the frags down.... another alternative would be nylon/pvc screws .....
