    Surge Device

well, that will work but you would have lots of bubbles introduced into your reef which would result in saltspray...

    Surge Device

Hi Ervine, I will try explaining.... A Surge device is basically a overflow unit with a auto water release valve. once this valve is activated, water would be able to gush out of the Surge device, therefore creating some really strong water movement in a reef... Such unit is to be placed above the main reef water line as it works on gravitational pull... From fecgoh design, you will see a plastic ball (seen in cistern units) this ball will float above the water line and attached to it is the so called DIYed flapper..... water is pumped into this container and as the water level increases, the plastic ball as it floats eventually lifts the flapper and therefore allows the whole volume of water in the device to gush out through the piping... what is unique in fecgoh design is the inverted container ..... as most Surge device when releasing water into a reef will also drop air through suction... therefore as long as the overflow which is linked to the main piping remains under water without any access to air, therefore eliminating the introduction of air bubbles and the suction noise..... Hope you understand.....

    Surge Device

Excellent fecgoh, I like the idea of the inverted sera testkit container.... Would be device also be self priming...(the removal of the trapped air in the sera container as the water tops the surge device???)
  4. Great input guys.... Many issues have been brought up and I guess it still reflects back onto who's running the store... which brings us to the following.... 1) Who's gonna run the show..... ?? 2) What criteria defines whether a reefer could place their products forn sale... would it be a certain number of posts made... or thier products being evaulated and certified fit for sale by a panel of senior reefers... Cos we can't have anyone coming in jus to post.... 3) What about the rules and regulations to abide too....
  5. I'm also lookin for those Sally Lightfoots.... Let me know if you guys are headin down to eaquarist....
  6. Definitely.... but you do know that I have this habit of rejecting reefers from getting any SPS from me when their reefs ain't ready....do ya???
  7. Hi Guys, I have the following for sale... Orange Montipora Cap... about 4 - 5 inches in diameter. $60 Green Stags frags 3 inches ... $ 20 and others... Please PM me for details....
  8. Wow... looking good... Fabricating a aluminium cover with ventilation vents for your DIY would be good....
  9. Canopy Opened... Notice the white laminated interior.....
  10. Canopy for the 5 footer tank....
  11. Sump.. 2.5 ft by 2 ft depth.... comes with 3 x 1 inch union ball valves
  12. Hi Guys, Jus did a clean up on my reef and have the following for sale... 5.5 footer by 2.5 ft depth and 3 inches of a 2.5 ft height tank.. 1/2 foot partitioned off on the left for overflow.. Tank has eurobracing on the top and bottom with 2 braces across the top....
  13. This idea would work based on the design given but whether its improves the skimming efficiency is doubtful... As long as the the 2 chambers are linked as one unit, the water level should level out.... A single chamber would however grant you much more reaction space for the foam to reacted with giving you better results....
  14. Instead of using 2 reactor chambers, why not jus build one with a bigger body diameter..... 2 important aspects to good skimmer designs.... 1) bubble/foam size 2) bubble contact time with water... try getting the bubbles as small/foamy as possible and get it to maintain longer contact time with solution... this can be done either with a tall reactor chamber or simply a larger diameter cylinder where water is forced to move in a circular motion in the chamber...
  15. Price war??? Nah... dun really think thats gonna happen.... Most reefers here who DIY would know that material cost is only a small fraction of the total cost of product.... its the time, expertise and effort that's the issue, esp for more complicated projects ..... There's a limit as to how much you can wage a price war on that.... cos it will simply reach a stage where its no longer worth doing it .....
  16. Hmmm ..... this thread is soon getting way out of topic... Let's get it back on track... It actually would be good if you guys state your opinions on whether it would be good if a online store be catered for the DIYed projects... and whether there might be any benefits of foreseen problems that might come along with its implementation.... Or even give ideas on how such a store should function... Issues like... What qualifies a person to post his wares there... Should there be certain criteria or quality the products have to meet before any posting.... etc..
  17. Hi Guys, Did had a very brief conversation with AT recently regards the above... Was thinking how's everyones opinion towards SRC having a DIY online store where reefers could place their "completed" DIY products for sale...... Reefers who advertise their DIYed products in the respective store/forum would therefore hold a similar position to sponsers with a different mode or method of contribution to the operation of SRC... some pretty good suggestion might be... 1) percentage cut from each sale of the product advertised to the running of SRC.. 2) maybe a small advertising fee per thread or 3) even a few reefers coming together and opening up a store only specialising in DIYed products..... What do ya guys think...????
  18. won't be able to reveal the pricing here or I would be breaking regulations set by Big Boss.... Still waiting for news of the so called "SRC DIY online store" where reefers who regular DIY quality stuff could put up their wares for sale... Think AT should be coming up spoon with more details on how this store would operate... so at the meantime, we could only communicate via PM......
  19. Nah... if thats the case..... I would add in some airstones.... Having a huge volume of water dumped into a reef in a instant is something most pumps could never achieve.... and it would definitely create one hell of water turbulence.... It does create the water movement much experienced by the very much light loving SPS as experienced in their natural environment ....
  20. definitely a eyesore.... but the benefits to the reef definitely outweigh the eyesore..... that is if the development of microbubbles could be prevented..... Been cracking my head as to how this could be done.... would definitely be glad to have some sound advice from you.. BTW, seen your latest DIYed product when I was at Hon's place... Very impressive...
  21. Met up with Maxima a few days ago... gave me some pretty good suggestions to improve on the CO2 usage..... Gonna try to add this feature in pretty soon....
  22. Pictures seems a little dark... BTW, here are some specs... Primary Chamber consist of a 7 inch diameter body which is 24 inches tall.. Secondary Chamber is 4 inches in diameter and is about 20 inches/500mm tall.... Main Chamber runs on a eheim 1250 for circulation....
