4ft Tank with 1 or 2 overflow?
davidluvfishes replied to Earthborne's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
For a 4-5 ft tank, 1 built in overflow should suffice. If you need faster water back to sump, you can have 2 return pipes in overflow..but your overflow box will be bigger.. You will need to see what you want.. Pro: An external overflow will provide more tank space as space will be taken up by the internal overflow. It is sometimes diffcult to hide the internal overflow and some may not like it as they cannot create a natural view. Cons:Tanks with external overflows are more expensive than those with internal overflow. If workmanship is bad, as the tank ages, higher chance of water leakages. ( low possibility though) -
What bait did you put in? Did you keep watching at it?
-
It may not go in for the first few times but it will swim around as it sees food in it.. but you have to watch out as other fishes may go in too.. Best to secure 1 area when this fish always hangs out. Mine took ard 20-30 mins to enter the trap.. but my ex- fish may not be as smart as yours.. Good luck.. Do update again ..

Bro, protein skimmers are much cheaper and affordable nowadays.. Suggest you get 1 better unit other than Weipro since its 1 of the more important equipment for your tank. Whats your budget and considerations? Many bros are selling their skimmers at very good pricing...

just realised my thread did not provide the solution.. What I did was to make a fish trap. I use a 500ml ice mountain bottle and cut the bottle ard 3/4 from the bottom. Then I invert the top and tie the pieces together..and then tie the trap to a string. Next put some bait in it and place the trap near where the fish always hands out... The fish will be lured and swim in through the small bottle hole and will have difficult to find its exit to swim out.. Of cos, you need to keep a constant look out and slowly pull the trap out of the water with your catch...

Mark, You can try to get tangs..My yellow tang will finish up all.. Proven to remove all broypsis. The last frag that you passed to me that has broypsis, they were all gone in 3 days time. -
As above.. May be considering to get 1 set of this. Preferably to get set with few variations of lightings i.e. different switches to choose lighting arrangement. PM me if you have any to clear.. Thanks.

Please post a pic of your zoa or let me know the zoa name so that I can check it out. I have borrowed a pic from the internet.. Thanks.

FW = Tap water ( direct from tap). That's what I use for dipping. Actually I dont dip but will soak in it for 5-10mins and will regularly shake the colony to shake off the pests.. -

Few suggestions i have: 1) I think yours a nano tank. right.. if can afford the time, take out all the zoas and dip in fresh water + lugol. Then change water?? I will immerse all my zoas( either from LFS or from other reefers) in fresh water at least 5mins even though there is risk of stressing the zoa involved, before putting in tank. I believe Iwana also restarted their main tank when it was infected badly.. 2) Try 6 line wrasse. They are much more hardy and greedy.. These are my suggestions.. -
If I am you, I will definitely not want to risk.. Too much a risk to take for the precious livestocks in tank .. Will rather buy new water than reuse...
-
Did you provide any aeration to the water??
-
Green radioactive zoa.. used to be quite rare.. recently quite common due to many Vietnam zoa shipments..Shd not be >$20..

Some answers that I have for you. 1. When the new tank arrive, must I soap/drain the tank water for a few times in order to remove the chemical sillicone smell? Please do not use soap.. You can rinse with tap water and drain out after that. 2. After added in water, can I start introduce in live rock and base sand? You need to add in salt and mix to acceptable salinity level, then you can add in sand, then rocks. 3. I will be using my old Ehiem2215 filter for my new tank, in order to speed up the process, can I remain the filter media inside?consist of poly-filter, charcoal, sand. Why do you need to put charcoal and sand? Not required.. 4. What other stuff must I added in to speed up the process? You can add in a small piece of market shrimp to start the cycling process 5. How soon can I start to transfer my corals to my new tank? Once cycling is completed.. You can read up more on cycling process. I will advise to go slow on adding corals. But if you reuse old tank water and sand, the process is much shorter 6. Any other matters that I need to take note beside measuring the water parameter? Still the water parameterS 7. For my existing corals, can I just put it in a white form box(with sea water), introduce air-stone but without filter for 2-3 weeks? 2 -3 weeks may be tough.. What kind of corals?
