i also built the same design......so does ati n aqualight. the purpose of using waterproof and caps is that u can actually wash or spray the unit for maintainance. its not meant to get so close to the water which what we intend to be so kiasu. as for the commercial units, i do have wings so that is should be resting on the hood. from that, it will be @ 6-7inches above water so that it will avoid salt creeps. the design is ok......yes, u cant fit alot of tubes with that kinda of design. but not everyone will need plenty of tubes. cheers

yes, u need to use atleast 2x250watts in order to retain the color of the acro and also growth. Not to forget your water perimeters thats play a big part too. no point geting your CA level to appropriate level but achiving brown acros... i suggest u go for the lights first follow by the CR. mean time, u can dose it manually...like what DB is saying. cheers

the heat are produce from the bulbs n not the eballast.....unless u are using those magnetic ballast t5 do produce heat but not as hot as the MH.....so, dont think that when u run the t5s, they dont contribute any heat..... cheers
