    DIY 250W MH

hi bro, not all 150watts wiring are the same. that will depend on the brand of the magnetic ballast n ignitor. if u follow the diagram properly, u wont go wrong. why not buy a ballast that is wired instead of making urself get trouble by the wiring. all magnetic ballast should be able to fire the radium bulb
  2. 10k bulbs are much superior in PAR compare to the 14k bulbs. What i feels that if u have a full sps tank, 10k bulbs are still the best. The intensity of the bulbs are stronger and brighter compare to the 14k bulb which tends to be dimmer. Im all the while a blv bulb user but, a 14k bulb will be good for mix reef and deep tank. it do bring out the color of LPS and also helps in penetrating depth (esp those 2.5ft height) there are good n bad for both bulbs my 2 cents

  4. just been there recently. he got very nice collections of sps. selling ur equipment too?
  5. hi bro, i got the tempered glass cover. buy me coffee can lioa but self collect.
  6. The spread will still depends on the size of reflector and the height that u will be suspending it. The higher the lights, the wider the spread. But it will loose the intensity.
  7. Hi bro, Getting lights for ur 3 ft tank will depend on what will u be keping in future? If u intend to keep sps or clams that are hungry for lights, having a 250watts will be ideal. A 150watts will be good if u intend to keep LPS. Also look for a MH with a good reflectors"ahem". With a good reflectors, it will produce a better and larger spread. If you worry about high consumtion, not to worry as we dont run longs hours which will not contribute in high electricity bill. U can opt for using eballast which have @ 40% savings compare to magnetic ballast. my 2 cents
  8. if u gonna have a sps tank, a 400watts is the way to go. good in growth n coloration. algae problem is normally because of high P04 and N03. with a phos remover and a big skimmer, that will solve this issue. my 2 cents
  9. if u dont go for actinic, u can use a 14kk or 20kk bulb. btw, u need to do ur own rewiring if u get from them. why dont go for a better fixture from DE Lightings?
  10. ur LR stacking really looks similiar with Goudian's scaping.
  11. 150 or 250watts holder? u want, come for the west meeting lor. i can pass u 1
  12. i do sell 400watts MH. check out my units
  13. 3.5ft, u need a supper extra long tongs. comes with wet armpit
  14. the case that i mention, the ballast produce a sharp sparking sound when fires. when check, the wires had loose contact maybe due to some handling. the timer can be found in sim lim tower. there are many brands to choose from. cheers
  15. maybe someone want to do a price comparison for all the needlewheel skimmers n performance. maybe put some ratings. that will help for those who are keen on needlewheels my 2 cents
  16. hi IanJ, through my experience, a normal theben timer should be able to cope with ur 250watts without any problems. unless u are firing a 400watts n above. my advise to u is check ur MH. u may have loose wires or something that might shock the timer that cause to to overide. i know of a reefer who had such problems. if u cant solve it, u may want to go for a commercial timer. it cost @ 50-80 dollars ea but they can take high current. my 2 cents
  17. never use a diy skimmer b4. built 1 but did not use . im always been a needlewheel fans deltec, here i come
  18. im a h&s user but looking at the deltec workmanship n performance, it certainly rocks thinking of upgrading again...
  19. now than i know where all the rics when. when the time i reach irwana, only left with the orange ones.
  20. what lorensia saying is true. pay a small sum by making a hood to hide all the lightings. it will look better with all the item conceal. my 2 cents too
  21. it should be in the middle compartment. reason not to be at the same as the return as skimmer normally produce micro bubbles. also, before the skimmer can skim, the water is send back to the main tank if u put on the same compartment. my 2 cents
  22. u guys tank are superb. good motivation for reefers like us. i really need some heavy stocking.
