If I am not wrong, the impeller is just those normal one with 6 blades. These will be able to chop up bubbles, but not as fine as those used in needlewheel kind. You can try by using a normal PH which a few blades kind, you will still be able to get bubbles. I used to own a ruwal skimmer, they uses a rio pump with 6 blades and that is how they produce the bubbles for the skimmer.

A very important factor for keeping clams is to have very strong lights. If you are using normal FL or PL, you might ask yourself if these are really sufficient for them. Many will tell you, you need MH or many T5, which is true. For more reading and understanding of clams, please refer to the following link http://www.reefs.org/library/aquarium_fron...Half_Shell.html

You guys measure Magnesium levels?
clowntrigger replied to Achilles Tang's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
Yep I do monitor Mg, to bring it up is not very tough, it all depend on what stuff you use to bring it up. For me I used Epsom salt, 1 packet of it will raise a level of around 100ppm in a 4x2x2.5 tank and the best thing is that it only cost $3.15. However there has been debate of adding Epsom salt as it is Magnesium Sulphate as opposed to those you get in Seachem or Kent, is Magnesium Choride. Poeple is wondering what will be the effect of having more sulphate in the tank, maybe Tanzy would like to explain more in detail. -
for external model, you do not draw water to the aquabee pump, but to a input on the skimmer body. The aquabee for a external model is hook up like a closed loop, the input is at the bottom of the skimmer body, while the output where the fine bubbles are is somewhere near the centre of the skimmer body. Look at my previous post with the link to the manufacturer websites, you will understand what I mean.

coraline algae spreading fast on glass
clowntrigger replied to boxfish's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I dont think algae blenny and Kole tang eat coraline algae....... at last not my algae blenny which is with me for a year and I have lots of coraline algae on the rocks, glass, power head and PVC pipes... -
Hi there Are you observing the current temperature readout during this time of the month? As you are pretty aware, the temp for this whole month is very cooling, fyi, for the past few days, my chiller don't even turn on and most of the time it is maintainng around 26.3 to 27.5 when the lights is on. My is a 4x2x2.5 with 4x54W T5 with a single 4inch AC fan runnning 24x7. Wait till you reach the month of May onwards, you will see that you will not be able to maintain that kind of temperature, which is why I get myself a chiller during that time of this year. IMHO, using fan to cool tank really depends on the ambient temperature, you probably can get your desire results for the next few months using fan, once come May..... you will see alot of poeple hunting for chiller....

Have the following 2 PH for sale, both of them are encrusted with coraline algae. Both PH are connected with a 3pin plug with extension wire, thus the orginal 2 pin connector is not there and longer wire done up by me. PH can only be mounted on the overflow tower as both of them does not have the rubber sucker, see on the photo how it is being mounted. Model : Hagen Aquaclear 802 Flowrate : 400 Gallon Per Hour Price : $28 each Collection : Bukit Panjang Item A.

Yes you need someway to get water into the skimmer. THe aquabee that comes with the skimmer is used in a circulating fashion, that is it take water from the bottom of the skimmer and then pump it back to the top of the skimmer, thus you will need a way to get the tank water into the skimmer, thus another pump or T-off is needed. Look at the following websites, you will have a better understanding. H&S External model

Sanders or Coral Life Wooden Sand Diffuser
clowntrigger replied to joachimsim's topic in General Reefkeeping_
IMO, I would go for the coralife one. If I am not wrong, 2pcs of the coralife will cost around $5-6 depending on where you get it. As for the Sanders one, I believe 1 pcs should cost around $1-2 depending on sizes and not the $5.60 that you have mentioned. -
Maybe you can use those portable clothes hanger, those that comes with 2 metal stand, buy a few bamboo and then you should be abe to hang the MH on it. I believe al you ballast is external, so you should not have any issues on weight.

Changing Coral Chips to Coral Sand ?
clowntrigger replied to Marine_Tank's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
you mention you have DSB in the main tank, what size of sand are you using? How many inches deep? If you have a correct DSB setup in your main tank, those coral chip can be remove a bit at a time over time. These are not really needed in my opinion. My aadvised to you is do not change the coral chip to size 0 or 1 as this will slow down the water following to the return pump and you will also been trapping more detrius now since your sand is so fine. In short, check if you have a proper DSB in main tank, if yes, then remove the coral chip bit by bit over time... Hope this help.. -
I am afraid that once in the sump or refugim, the surviour rate will be even lower. They will be consistently open to threat of being suck by my return pump, my skimmer and also by my cutting of macro algae. at least in the overflow tower, they are safe from these threat and they will always be food since alot of those uneaten food will flow into it. I have a durso pipe there and the water level is quite high up, so chances of them being suck to the sump is pretty low.... I hope

my boxer shrimp always give birth and some of them are hiding in my overflow tower. I have notice there is a couple of them is as big as 5-8mm now in my overflow tower, will see how it goes 2-3 months down the road if they grow bigger or just perish. But I would say, in general newly hatch boxer shrimp will not survive long in the tank as they well be prey upon by other fishes.

How to get rid of high nitrate
clowntrigger replied to vincegoh's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I don't think you can use the 2nd compartment to house DSB as the flow of water is wrong. Unless you add in 2 pcs of glass to change the flow of water. The water flow need to be above the DSB, but for your case, you see that water is flowing into the DSB. I have attached a pic of my sump, the 2nd compartment is DSB with macro algae, you will see that water is flowing over the DSB, hope this help. -
Just curious, is Tiny at LCK110 still work there? As I seldom go there and everytime I was there, he seem not to be there, quite wierd since it is a weekend which he always show up, any idea? Thanks.

Since when SG custom bother to check your luggage? The more important is to get it out of HK, if custom at HK don't stop you, you are pretty safe with it. Anyway it is just fishes not not those illegal stuff.. I think some of the fishes are cheap, I heard a queen angel only cost S$80.. Some of them maybe cheap, while some are not, you will need to hunt around and see..
