How to use Kalkwasser
clowntrigger replied to clowntrigger's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
AT, thanks for the answer, so it means that I will no longer need to have the Reef builder, Reef buffer and Calcium, wow, that is killing 3 birds with one stone . BTW I heard to mix Kalk, you need to see that there is some white residue when you mix the power to water, then only use the top part of the water without the residue, right? The snowstorm that you refer to, these are the so call residue that causes it? I heard that in order for Kalk to work efficiently, the tank water need to be about 28 degree and below, is that true? -
Tanzy, question for you. By adding Kalkwasser, I thought it will increase the alkalinity, so is there a need to add Reef builder which does the same thing? Correct me if I am wrong Reef buffer - maintain the PH at 8.3 Reef builder - increase the alkalinity at the same time buffer the PH Kalkwasser - Increase Calcium and increase alkalinity are the above true?

Hi guys I am trying to use the Kalk and would like to have a pro and cons of it. Also please point out how to prepare it and what is the best time to dose it. Can I used it as top up for my tank? I heard you should not dump a whole lot of the top up with Kalk into the tank, so I believe even when you use a auto top up, you are actually putting about 20-50ml of water into the tank when your sump is wide and long, does that conside as dumping? Sorry if my question does not make sense I am learning mah.

AT, are they still available? How long can the LFS keep the fish? My tank still in the mist of cycling, wonder how long they can keep it.
-
Phang, I would like to see the beckett rock some action in your tank. Since this is just your refugium, I would be interested to see how you run the filtration, if possible. BTW a very nice tank, should have gotten you to be my interior designer for my new tank
-
wedgee, that might be a bit low for the SG. I would say if you could make it to 1.023 to 1.024, that should be good. Of course this is base on my personal experience, unless other think likewise. Maybe you should wait for people to reply on what they think about the value I quoted. For me, it just work great.
-
maybe I can add something, what is your SG(Specific gravity) in your tank? I have tried on my previous sander skimmer, at a lower SG, it does not work that well when compare to a higher SG. Maybe you should check your SG, my 2 cent worth.

Phang, post a picture of the long fin, maybe interested...

should have let you see my store room the other day, you will faint anyone else share the same interest as me?

I would spend time doing my modelling project, I build military Tank.

tanzy, how does a dinoflagellate look like? if it is dinoflagellate, how do you battle it ?
-
liverock, after seeing so much reply on algae, let me contribute what I have gather so far. 1. Check for Nitrate, be it in the tank or the top up water used. 2. Heard that 6500K light promotes algae, will be good to upgrade to 10000K light. The above all my opinion, so if I am wrong anywhere, please be soft on me

How do you tune a H&S skimmer
clowntrigger replied to clowntrigger's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
yep, all those uses a aquabee pump with a special flywheel. Those that uses 2 Ehiem pump will cost at least $1500 in my opinion. Give them a call and ask if they could bring in that model for you, should not be a issues as they bring in their stuff quite regularly from H&S. -
How do you tune a H&S skimmer
clowntrigger replied to clowntrigger's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Hon, H&S skimmer can be bought at Sealife. There are 3 models available there and here are the price that I know, it may have change, so you need to check with them A110-F2000, the one in the pictures approx S$650 110-F 2000similar to the above but in sump, approx S$600 150-F2001 approx S$850 you can view the pictures at the following websites http://www.hs-aquaristik.de/Englisch/Absch...haumerengl.html do ask them if they still accept trade in of old venturi skimmer of any condition. Trade in value is $100. -
Want to sell your Koran Angel?
clowntrigger replied to SULPHER-X's topic in Sell off/Pasar Malam Shop
That is very interesting, I wish I could tell all my fish to line up when I hand feed them. All of them will rush to the surface and what you get is the splashing BTW, is the Vital Chem suitable for reef setup? -
Progress on my new tank setup, comments please

Tanzy, I knew it when I was writing the mail that something has to be wrong, espically the sequence , well thanks for the correction. Sulpher-X, I did not buy the auto top system, but just make it out of a digital timer and a power head. I know I know, alot of you will say it is not safe, but hey you never know till you try it out, right? As long as you can keep the reservoir with water for a 2-3 days toping, this should be safe. Anything failed, the sump will only filled with top up water for 2-3 days. This is quite safe for a large tank as salanity will not be affected that much as compare to a small tank. Nobody can garanteed that a real auto top system will not failed, so why not give it a tried then. BTW whose timer has failed on them, just like to have a feel of how reliable these timer are. -

I feed them all sort of dried food ranging from Kent Pletinum, Tetra Bits and JBH food pallet. It love it espically Tetra bits strange, you don't get that in the sea. However, it does not take lettuce, maybe have been feeding too much of these meaty food that it don't like the vege food. -

Tanzy, I think the hole on the cap is too big, that is why you get the Flush symptoms. My Durso pipe and my drain pipe is having the same diameter, you need to play with the hole on the cap. Too small a hole, water level will raise higher in the overflow chamber. Too big a hole, you will create a siphon effect, that is water will flush down the pipe, till the openeing of the is nearly exposed to air and then you will hear the noise again. Hope I get it right, it might be the other way on the effect of the hole size. Phang Check on my tank last night, wow, some much diatoms on my sand, so ugly , well I think this is normal, that is what a lot of people say. Got a chance to installed a automatic top up system using electronics timer, will let everyone know what is the effect this weedend. -

Hi Sulpher-X, becarefull on angels, they are very prone to Hilles disease. I use to have a Blue ring that grows to 13" in my 3 ft tank ,they are less prone to hilles as compare to Koran angle. Majestic Angle would be ok also. -

Basically for a durso pipe to work, the diameter must be at least 1" or more, thus if you have a 1/2" pipe going back to the sump, you cannot use the durso pipe. -
